I also bought my first Miles album when I was 16 in 72. It was On The Corner. I loved it. There have been some great albums that I returned because I didn’t like them on first listen. Those albums that Miles did to get out of the Prestege contract are my favorites by him other than the electric period. Those 70’s twofers are really good.

What an amazing amount of albums. I love the artwork on most of his albums. The Miles & Monk must be amazing. I didn't realize he was married to Cicely Tyson. I don't have that many Davis albums but of what I have, In A Silent Way is my favorite. You have a great mofi collection of his work. I love those.

Mazzy, thanks for the great overview of The Dark Prince. The story of Miles continues to unfold, no one can present his complete body of work or explain his influence on music and culture.I also think he was a wonderful painter but that is just another aspect of this Creative Giant.Vote for Miles.

Norman wow great Miles vinyl you have you did an excellent breakdown of each album he has so much stuff he started with Bird and Diz all the way to the early 90 when he fused jazz with hip hop with Doo Bop Song I'm with you he important not only to jazz but music he had so many groups the groups tell many stories which is definitely cool to hear. That awesome you saw him I was definitely too young to have saw him. I missing his Prestige period badly I have non i have most of his Columbia a couple from the 80s Mazzy this was outstanding watched this twice. I'm watch his film Birth of the Cool this weekend have you saw Miles Davis the Story I bet you have. Lovellandrew

This was timely, as I was just cataloging my Miles so everything was fresh in mind. My Miles starts with the Columbia albums, so seeing his involvement in the 1940 & 1950s was interesting. Thanks, Chris

Hi Mazzy --- watched this entire video thinking "Where's On The Corner?" and at the 40-minute mark, there it is! I really enjoy these types of videos; it made me break out my own Miles' stuff and curse the memories of the Miles' vinyl I saw over the years that I SHOULD have picked up! -- thanks again.

It was actually Gill Evans who wrote / arranged the introduction to So What. It was Bill Evans who wrote Blue In Green despite the credit to miles. I point this out not to pick holes in the vid, as it’s nice to see some decent miles coverage. Nice collection. No 80s or perhaps u got all that on CD? Defo recommend completing the mofi collection. Porgy in particular is a stunning cut. Like the vids man! Stay safe in Seattle!

Well SOB I missed those Prestige box sets from RSD, son of a gun. I have his complete Prestige on CD, I’m sure you also have that box set. Great point on Davis not being able to keep up with that fast pace of BeBop. He is the king of phrasing and of Less is More. He is by far my favorite artist, his music just strikes a chord with me. I was thinking about doing one of these also but just have not gone around to it. I don’t have many of those comps which was cool to see. I just got some more of his bootleg series in last week.

Miles is the one I keep going back to more than any artist. Prestige years are a must and IMO the AP 200 gram 33s are awesome. Favorite Miles solo from Miles/Monk, first solo on Straight No Chaser......channels Pops and almost gives you History of Jazz in one solo. I know it’s dated, but so hip.
I like this kinder, gentler Mazzy. The approach reminds me of Belushi from Animal House......”Grab a Brew, Dont cost nothing”
    Peace

This is a feast! Question for you, as a person new to the world of vinyl and looking for rarities, like most Milford Graves albums, for example….Where does one turn? On eBay a typical MG album is around $200 on average all the way up to 1000. Where are better places to look and what, in your opinion, is too much to spend on a record? Record prices can be crazy. Abs in terms on how much any of us should spend really depends on so many things. Don’t go crazy or beyond your means. Dig at stores, antique shop and goodwill. DISCOGS is great but can get confusing with all the various pressings of each records. But lots of options there.
