I met Robert one time l ask him what is his favorite movie he told many but his favorite was gone with the wind his second favorite was all about eve. I thank him for historical facts on movies he was down to earth l felt a loss when he pass away he made a difference in saving a part of our history god bless him
I sobbed when I heard Robert had passed… I learned so much from him. He introduced me to silent films too. “Encyclopedic” is a great description for him AND he was actual friends and a contemporary of almost all of the Hollywood people he speaks of. He was a true gem… I love and miss you still, Robert 💔
Correction: Wait Until Dark was released in 1967, three years after My Fair Lady was released. However, Audrey had worked for Warner Bros. prior to My Fair Lady, only once, in The Nun's Story (1959).
What a shock! I'll miss that professorial tone of voice coming from one of our foremost cinema historians. He was as much a movie star as his guests. This is a great loss to me.
I still remember when a person had no opportunity to see the great old films. We had 3 channels on T V and one of them was PBS. AMC was started after I graduated from college. I didn't see Citizen Kane before film class in college. TCM is such an amazing thing to me still. I am grateful to be able to see these films and learn of new ones that I love. I remember so well going to see the "extra credit" films during film class (I went to ALL of them...)and seeing "Bringing up Baby" for the first time. And the first time I saw "The Best Years of Their Lives" was on TCM as well as many other favorites of mine. These films enrich our lives.

My favourite Theatre Talk thus far that doesn't feature Elaine Stritch. :) I was waiting for Streisand in Hello Dolly to be referenced.... I wasn't disappointed.
It's ridiculous to include Streisand in Hello, Dolly! with Lucy in Mame. Streisand was too young, but in all other respects gave a wildly entertaining performance that has become beloved to all but tiresome Carol Channing apologists. Mame was an unmitigated disaster. Osborne, as an old friend of Lucy's, tried to make it sound like her performance choices ruined the movie...yeah, right.
I enjoyed everything about this interview but for Susan Haskins. Robert Osborne actually corrected nearly everything she stated. Obviously she did not do her “homework” and dig deeper into the rest of the story. Annoying I realize that’s my opinion only. Thanks letting me share my two cents.
Robert felt a star was born 1954 was a great movie it should not been cut in pieces parts of it has been found put back together. He told me he felt that movie. Should be seen in special way
Annie made all it's money back plus several million ....they trash it here. Ok, it was not the greatest but kids loved it. Check Wikapedia folks. Burnett and Finney were terrific!
Well..I'd say that nearly every adult who saw ANNIE on Broadway....or even in a touring company show was disappointed by the movie. At a point, how much $$ it made shouldn't matter...I just find the movie PAINFUL to watch. (...and I like Carol Burnett, ALbert FInney, and even Tim Curry in the movie...it's just an overall "hot mess"....i.m.o.)

In another unexpected departure, I remember wondering whether Larry King knew of any health issues dancing star Ann Miller might have had as he interviewed her from her home in Sedona, AZ, in discussing the death of Bob Hope.
Regarding the mention during the interview, of the film version of "Hello, Dolly!" ...the story I heard about the miscasting of 29-year-old Barbra Streisand as middle-aged, widowed matchmaker Dolly Levi, is that the director, Gene Kelly, perpetrated that goof. ...Among others. He was brilliant about dance, he knew what he liked, and he liked Barbra Streisand's looks and her singing ...illogical casting be damned. With the magical spell that certainly would emanate from Barbra's beautiful voice, and her charming and vivacious personality on the big screen, what could possibly go wrong? Those were far from the only errors in judgment he made with that movie, but Gene Kelly is dead now. Why belabor his failures?
...I just really wish that a filmed Carol Channing version...even just a solid copy of her "HELLO DOLLY" were available. I rspect the energy....the integrity of the movie production....but, it COULD have been so much better.

There was never a show on TCM called ""Robert Osborne's Great Movies" on TCM. He was either the host for a movie, or he was not.
