    Hey there, I love your beads--truly BOHO. I. saw your vid where you used a pen tube and made my hubby cut 2 old motel pen tubes up for me. I've watched numerous bead vids and yours are the ones for me. FYI-I was at Dick Blick's art store in Phoenix and just happened to find these reusable straws. They are stiff like pen tubes, though not quite as thick. Hub cut them up too, now I need to set up an assembly line and go to it. Thank you. XOXOJane

      Your hubby sounds like a very cool guy willing to help cut the straws up for you. Will you use,your beads or sell them? My husband sits and reads all day long. Sometimes barely uttering a word to me. I want to mak3 these beads and make a Garland for my tiny Christmas tree.

    Hi you are awesome! When the straws are so thin, it doesn't matter if it moves a bit. I cover the whole straw with masking tape (painters tape). Then I cover the straw with strips of material, using wood glue. I also put the string, glitter, etc on the whole straw. I then cut the straw in small pieces according to how long I want the beads. Then I do the wire thing also using caps before I twist the rings. I then embellish each bead seperately.

    Just found this video. I have lots of success just making a paper bead and decorating it. It is firm already from rolling the paper and glue - many more shapes than with a straw!!

    I have a suggestion. Made a bunch years ago. There is actually an awesome book just on different ways to make these beads! Got this idea from there. Find beads that fit snugly into the straw. A bit of white glue helps! And there you have it. I used wood beads cause they fit! Brilliant idea the had!

    Have you tried cutting the straw,lengthwise,then running glue inside along the straw lengthwise,then lay wire in it,and pinch straw back together?

    HI, last night I had an idea to make a paper bead first using a tooth pick if you don't have a paper bead roller. Cut your paper strips 2 inch or 1 1/2 inch how ever wide you want, glue it and then pull it off your tooth pick or roller tool. Nice and stable and hole is in the center to put the wire through. Tube paper bead. : ) I love your videos, I am learning so much and having a blast!

    Have you considered using plastic tubing, such as the ones used in fish-tank aquariums? I am in love with this craft, and have a lot of tubing. I think it would be firm, and would be easier to fill with hot glue. What do you think?

  • @tammiebelle9491
    @tammiebelle9491 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    if you're wanting the straw beginnings to be firm - suggestion - in addition to you shooting glue into each end, cut smll hole in middle and squirt glue in middle as well. the glue will more than support the hole space

    FWIW - here is my method. I make a PAPER tube out of scrap - often newspaper from flyers. Make it enough layers to give strength. the center won't be as large and you won't have to fret over centering the wire because that will happen when you run it through the bead cap. It doesn't matter if it's straight inside the bead, only what it looks like when it comes out the end.

  • @LeeLee-nw4db

    Hi Sigrid, thanks for sharing this idea. I found that if you cut the wire that goes through the straw so there is approx. 1" to 1 1/2" sticking out either end. Hold straw and start filling with glue, turn over and stick wire in styrofoam. Fill in other end of straw with glue. Let dry. Remove from styrofoam. There may be a little bit of styrofoam stuck to the end. Peel off as much as you can, but don't worry too much with it because it will be covered by the bead cap. Again, tfs. :)

    Another idea, paper straws so the hot glue will work. Or, what I’ve been doing, rolling cardstock with a very narrow center. It doesn’t take much cardstock to roll into a nice sized base for your boho embellishments. Viola!

  • @loredanastancioi5482
    @loredanastancioi5482 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Use wider/larger straw and cut them short eventually (my personally preferance). The hot glue is thick, can’t penetrate through a small hole.

    Are use my drop sheet paper and wrap it around a straw and then instead of using wire I use a little big paperclips straightened out and I use that to add beads to and I don’t fill it up with beads I just leave it because the paper is so hard with the glue it’s very nice

    Hi Sigrid It's good to see you doing videos again 🤗
    I love your Boho beads I haven't made any yet but you did make me make lots of feathers and I love them :)
    I wonder if a paper mache mix would be possible but I guess it would take longer to dry but would definitely be less burny on the fingers Eeek. I hate glue gun burns.

    Hi. I know this tutorial is already a while ago. But wanted to tell you that cakepop sticks or lollipop sticks work really great (of course the have to have a hole in the center) The results are really sturdy and just a bit of hot glue an the ends do the work of keeping them in place and not sliding around

  • @VintageBohemian
    @VintageBohemian 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I roll cardboard and slide it into the straw. It makes it strong. You can also squirt quick drying glue inside, make a batch & let dry. Also the hot glue you are using is hi-temp, you need lo-temp. Works much better & does not melt the straw. Good Luck sweetie.

    I'm so in love with these boho beads, I'll be making some this afternoon I think (as soon as I get some thicker wire, mine's too flimsy. And I've been thinking I'd like to use aluminium foil or cheapo masking tape wrapped around the wire for a middle, as I only have a few beads and no glue gun. I'll let you know if it works or if I mess up. :-D Thank you so much for sharing Sigrid!

    I think if you forgo the hot glue and glue in a need that fits in the inside of the straw on both ends it would keep the wire streight and give ends some stabilization then do all your wrapping. The glue on the paper and matereal will harden the bead. That's what I do. Hope it helps

    Oh cool, yes I really think paper beads then the material on top with a bit of glue would work best. I have made both and I love that idea of strengthening them with the paper and glue. I have to say that I really like the soft feel of the cloth, though, so I probably won't wrap that paper too hard =) Bless your heart.

    I tried filling up the straw with natural clay with the wire placed before it dries up. The problem though is when it dries, the clay cracks but I think this can be solved by sealing both ends with a glue or any other sealant appropriate for clay. In this case I used a wood glue as a sealant.

    Would it work to just roll up some hard paper balls to fill the straw and just add some glue? Someone suggested using paperclay to put inside the straw but then I thought you could just use the air-dry paperclay to build the boho bead onto. Maybe someone has figured all this out by now but I’m just learning. ✌️❤️💜💙🤗

    I wonder when I try this, if putting hot glue on one end while the wire is in, and then fill with like cheapo glue such as elmers school glue and then finish the other side with hot glue. Eventually the glue inside should dry. I'd probably have to wait a couple of days to decorate them but I might try it. I found you while browsing TH-cam and am glad I did! Subscribed! :)

    Here's a thought, I have some Artist Glitter Glue (not glittery, just the name of it) that comes with this very fine tip. (Finelines filled with a thinner glue might work too). So I was wondering if this tip could squeeze the glue down further? You'd have to wait a bit for it to set, but it dries fairly quickly. For me, I use your other method of putting some beads inside the tube. XOXOJane

    Sigrid, I checked out your daughter's GofundMe to see what was up. I actually attended this conference many years ago. At that time I didn't have to pay anything for it as I was sponsored by a local club. I believe it was the Lion's Club or Civitans. You might check out your local clubs to see if they would sponsor your daughter. If I wasn't disabled and had some disposable income to share I would. I will share on my social media. I sincerely hope your daughter is able to attend. Ashley

      Actually I think what I attended was different but I think it's still a good idea. Local organizations used to sponsor these types of endeavors. I had to attend a meeting of the sponsoring organization and give a presentation about my experience when I returned. I hope your daughter is awarded an actual scholarship from the organization so all this fundraising isn't needed.
      I was thinking that if you sell your boho beads and get a lot of orders it might be overwhelming for you. I started making them up and thought you might put out a call to your subbies that if they can't help financially they could help by crafting for you and sending you their own boho beads or feathers that you could in turn sell to raise money for your daughter. I'm making beads today & would be happy to send them to you this week for you to sell if you think my idea would be helpful to you. Let me know. Best of luck to you and your daughter. (oh, I can send you a pic of the beads so you can inspect them before you you agree if you want but I think even if you didn't like them they are boho and already made so if wouldn't take much time for you to add a different layer to them :-)

      Ok. I'm making the beads just because they are fun & I've been wanting to make them ever since I 1st saw your origional video last year. I've slowly been gathering scraps and supplies to make them & now was the perfect time to start. I've made 10 so far & I love them. They are so fun to make. Let me know if you need anything.
      $30 in feathers @ 3/$1 is a lot of feathers. You must be a much faster crafter than I am. I made some feathers a few weeks ago too. They are a blast also.
      If you need help let your fans know. I'm sure they'd give what they could. Some, like me, have spent $ on supplies a while ago and still have them so they are easier to give then money. Have an great week.

    One video I watched using straws, she used a paper straw. Then the tip of your glue gun needs to be skinny. But I love your videos.

    Uśing paper straws is easier in my humble opinion.

    Just tried paper straws, so they don't melt.

    Do you need a glue gun with a Precision tip?
