Hi Katie!! Blessings from Iowa. We are a small cow calf to freezer beef operation. To answer your question reguarding the prices of beef, over the last few years much of the country which produces beef has burnt up in wild fires and or drought. There has been a few major blizzards, combined with sky high feed cost,(be it corn, distillers and even hay), many farms and ranches have let go of their cattle. The US has the lowest cattle numbers since the 60s... it takes alot of time to rebuild these numbers to where our country needs them to feed folks....a female should not ideally have her 1st calf until 2 years of age, said calf then takes average of 14 to 16 months to fatten to market size...cattle typically only have 1 calf. She carries the baby 9 months, and will take 60 to 90 days to rebreed. This means 1 calf per cow per year... Our animals run about 900 # hot carcass weight, once cooled, hung for 2 weeks (shrink due to moisture loss) and deboned of certain inetible parts such as the spine, fat trim etc, you end up with 580 to 600 lbs take home. Now this is prime cuts all used steaks, roasts 1st. Out of a prime cut beef 240lbs is a "typical" ground. So as you can see a huge live beef does condence down quickly thus driving the per piece price up. I hope this helps a little. Now of course there are all kinds of disclaimers and details but this is a general idea, we have raised locker beef now over 15 years, our animals do receive some corn but are NOT hard fed feedlot style cattle they have space, grass is summer, hay in winter. I say this not to beat our chest or start an arguement, i say this because it effects the timelime of our animal production. Each farmer is slightly different. Please know in general we farmers just want to provide the best we can to everyones family. This is the same meats we feed our own children. Blessings from a farm mom in Iowa.
Thank you Katie! We by all means dont know it all or " do it right" by some... But we try our best. Believe me when we even as producers say "we understand" the amount layed out and the cost to family living.
My mom always mashed up the bones in salmon when she made salmon patties and I'm 73 and it sure didn't hurt me. You are an awesome mom. Good bless you and your precious family
You’re the Energizer bunny! Don’t know if it’s the relief and excitement of being all stocked up or the anxiety from sticker shock-satisfying and overwhelming all at the same time! Job well done, now make a hot cup of soothing tea and put your feet up for a while!
I don't have any kids, but I still do the "easy meals" at times if I'm really busy or just feel like it. Nothing wrong with that. Your family eats very healthy.
I’m a gramma , and my grandkids are past diaper stage and we still buy cases of baby wipes , they have multiple purposes , and we also use them to wipe dog paws 😊
Oh good to know!!! I clearly didn’t pay attention when I picked it up. I still don’t get why it’s gone up so much in just a few months. Might have to start eating more beans🌻🌻🌻

@mollymurders172 hi!!!!! I can’t see your profile pic on my mobile well so I was double checking. How are you all?? Bend is so cool. There is a lot of development happening on the way there from here. So many new subdivisions.
I loved the opening with your family. I grew up in a family of 7 also, and we had to cut corners whenever possible. My Grandma always made yogurt, bread, and egg noodles. I made a heater for making yogurt, and don't buy it from the store.
@@RowesRising I don't have an instant pot, so I made mine out of an old coffee can with a small light bulb in the bottom. I put a bowl of milk/starter on top, and cover with a towl.

Do you think buying Organic maple syrup is necessary? How many syrup makers use pesticides etc on their trees? Just curious if that is something just as uh healthy in regular?
I actually talked about this in my last vlog. I prefer buying real maple syrup and the “organic” doesn’t matter. I bought it so I don’t have to drive to another store. There wasn’t another option. Cause think about it- are they spraying pesticides on these maple trees? Likely not. Just paying for the certified organic. Sometimes it’s less expensive- I have found at Walmart sometime the organic is less than the regular real maple syrup.
Those organic ground beef packages are over a pound each. I think 4lbs total across the 3 packages. Still expensive for sure though. Grocery prices are getting ridiculous.
Kids, maple syrup, save$, there is a recipe basically simple syrup with molasses...its SO GOOD! You can add maple/butter flavoring but you don't have to.
@@RowesRising 3C sugar, 1 1/2C water, 3Tbsp ( or less we like it dark) Bring to Gentle Boil, stirring, set aside to cool ( it will thicken as cools) *can add 1 tsp vanilla, 1tsp maple extract, 2tsp butter extract tastes like "M Butterwort. "
Beef hopefully price will go back down this summer ( stock up!) Last year Aldi had the organic beef for $1.99 a pound, for about 3 weeks! Think it was around July. Other stores in area were competitive prices too. I bought 2 cases! Lol Hubby thought I was crazy😂😂
@@RowesRising I dehydrated some of ours its been so helpful. Butter is my question...WHY is " real" butter 10lb?! Even cheaper is $4lb...I am seriously considering changing our diets due to the costs. This year we might not be able to garden due to work on house... Not sure I can resist with these prices! Banana.60lb... used to be 3lb for $1....not organic apples $2lb... I used to pay .99... Does anyone remember prices 4-6 years ago?! I remember the first time I saw packages of food get LARGER ( remember 16 oz cans) with weight INCREASED because they had to, so they could charge us more🤣
@shervin6711 I remember and I probably have an old receipt… I’ll have to look and do a grocery receipt from years ago- and buy the same things again to price compare. We buy the same stuff and I have noticed the price increases. But I’d like to know exact amount that they have inflated😅
Food is ridiculous expensive. I thought of raising meat but it’s so expensive just to have it processed! Can’t win. Love you apologizing 😂 it’s ok we moms have do what we have to survive! Especially with garden season
“Sorry not sorry!!”” Haha 😂 Somedays it’s survival mode around here. I didn’t make any cuts in edit on the main haul- so whatever I said- I never re watched it I just let it fly this vlog- I normally edit out so much of what I run my mouth about but this was a late night and I figured I didn’t swear so it’s probably fine. 😅 Thanks for watching!!
So so sad how expensive food is. Organic or otherwise. Simply all expensive. However if it goes into the body needs to be healthy as you say in moderation. I believe you have this under great control for your family. I recently saw a recipe for spinach soup with broccoli 🥦 in it. Sauté onions and onion greens. Then add garlic if u like and potatoes cup up cubed .add 4 cups chicken broth and 1 pound spinach salt and pepper cook till tender Blend and you can add cream at end too if u like. You can add broccoli as well for extra flavor and chunks. I like them as well in it. Top with croutons and serve hot.
I shopped at Grocery outlet yesterday and I'm from the Northwest the prices are OUTRAGEOUS, I can't believe they almost match the normal store prices. I've been shopping there for over thirty years and saddened by how much prices there have gone up. Please show your prices from Grocery outlet so I can compare. Just passed over the meats because the prices where high. Bread has gone up to same prices at FM and SW.i don't know because they are individual owned or just the area I live in Washington.😢
Meat prices are going up due to diseased cows. Gas is going up because Ukraine bombed Russian oil fields as well as supply and demand. Lots of other products going up because the bridge that collapsed in Baltimore was a major thoroughfare to bring in food. It's frustrating for sure. I also believe corporate greed has a lot to do with it. They are saying they lost so much money during the pandemic so they have to make up for lost $. Some items are actually coming down. Bacon is one. More to come hopefully.
