The shorter the head, the shorter the cast. I think those opst style heads are great for single hand Spey. But that’s about it. What rod are you casting and what line do you have on it?
Rod makers have gone away from printing the physical weights of rods on the blanks, which was always irrelevant, and now they’re not classifying rods as fast, medium fast, etc because that’s largely subjective. All positive moves. Hopefully the trend of getting rid of geeky bullshit will include the elimination of hook keepers.

I casted the X and R8 9’6 6wts next to each other. Was actually shocked how different they were.

No, it was in the south sound. Not too far from Belfair. Be careful of belfair at low tides. lots of mud
