This was NOT supposed to be FAU's time to make it to the Final Four. This is only their second tournament appearance EVER in school history. And already they made it to their first Final Four. This has to be a record.

Rematch of the Kawaii Leonard and Kemba Walker Sweey 16 game, where San Diego State Jamaal Franklin was called a late game foul on a Kemba Walker shoulder bump and flop that changed the game. UCONN went on to win the National Championship. San Diego State is. Looking for a rematch!
I was at that game, and no ref was watching the flop, yet they called something they didn't see. It did alter the game.

These four teams have surely one thing in common aside from being in the final four and that is all teams have a great coaching staff!😊

Playing SDSU is unique.
If there is a comparison, it's the usual "defensive" college basketball plays NFL Prevent Defense. But SDSU has outside linebackers that come at your QB every play.

Wally Szcerbiak says SDSU got away with aggressive defense against Creighton and the officials didn't "keep SDSU honest on D". I agree both teams played physical & refs held their whistles. I worry the officials will be whistle happy which hurts SDSU's aggressive style. Remember 2011 with Kawhi getting 3 fouls in the 1st half vs UConn. It changed the game.
@@evanarellano6239 true I am worried about that as well. The refs will adjust their whistles with the game as they always do though, and this years roster is 9 deep with no real blind spots. Maybe if mensah got into foul trouble it would suck, but ledee would step up
SDSU has been the best basketball program in the state of California for nearly a decade but still get no respect. Not UCLA, not USC, not Cal, not Fresno St. S.D.S.U. And this is not even the best team the school has had. The c*vid season SDSU had a legit powerhouse that could have won a nat'l title. This team had no real expectations beyond just making the tournament. But the way this season has broken down it has become a dream season for the Aztecs and NOW they have a true legit chance of winning it all.
Huh? A lot of preseason experts said this is a Sweet 16 team with potential to go Elite 8.
And the players...all of them said National Championship or Final Four

@@leekato2722 what experts? I'm in San Diego. I listen to sports talk all day. The program is expected to make the tournament every year because they're the benchmark. But they were underachieving. No expert was picking them for the Elite 8 when they had never gone past the the first weekend of play under Dutcher. The c*vid season wiped out (at that time) their most legit championship contender.
@@leekato2722 Preseason is different comes March Madness. Anything and everything can happen in between those times. SDSU was a trendy pick to be upset in the 1st round. I believe they had the 3rd highest % to be upset in the 1st round. We thought that a Sweet 16 is reachable but anything past that is all gravy.
I want to see Florida and Miami in the championship game.
But of course I want Miami to win 😊

If UCONN have 4 National Championships, they’re a big brand. No question about it.
Problem with UConn is there aren't up there every year. When they do get up there, they make the best of it. The Women keep it going in the meantime. Sad we won't get to see both win the same year...for the 3rd time.

What people do not understand, is that Florida Atlantic plays a different style of basketball than everyone else left in the tournament. Florida Atlantic plays a fast tempo switching style in which the ball finds the open guy. A lot of the remaining teams play iso, slow, hero ball with the star always getting the ball. With FAU, the most open man gets the ball. SDSU is going to hit the Florida Atlantic buzzsaw.

I teach at a small Christian high school and all my basketball savvy students filled out NCAA TOURNAMENT predictions and most had UCONN in the final four and most with UCONN winning a National Title this year!!

Miami has gotten down by double digits in their games. They do that with Uconn and the hole will get a lot deeper than 13 points. Gonzaga was down 7 at the half by the 15 minute mark in the 2nd half the lead was 20.

Hammer it!! FAU was held to 50 by North Texas. SDSU’s defense is a whole nother beast. My only fear is a blow out but it’s the final 4 so I think it’ll be close.

San Diego State held Alabama to 23 points in the first half. Coincidentally, held Creighton to 23 points in the second half. Held Furman to 25/27 both halves, and Charleston 29/28 both halves! Not saying they will do it against FAU, but to do it against Alabama, Creighton, Furman and Charleston, all averaging in the 80's, except for Creighton (77) - is more than coincidence! BTW, in the Mountain West Championship game, they held Utah St (another 80 point/game team) to 29/28 both haves.
Offensive avg point ranking for 2022 season: Alabama #7, Furman #12, Charleston #16, Utah St #33, and FAU #37, Creighton #64. *Check this out: San Diego State was ranked #183 in average offensive points - this shows you how amazing their Defense has been.
Failed to mention Creighton shot over 50% in the first half and almost beat SDSU playing SDSU basketball. FAU has won almost all their tournament games playing the other teams style. SDSU needs to play their style to have a chance.

The reason for the turnovers the students want the education, they know only a small percentage become pro players so they tend classes more than practice ball, we know a small percent of players cant read a 3ed grade reader, so the alumni pay them and the university.

I just don't think any of the 3 teams left are going to be able to take down UCONN, they are just too powerful.
SDSU has had problems with teams like UConn this year, but that only means that SDSU didn't just run over those teams. Maybe UConn would be favored but I wouldn't automatically say that UConn would have its way with SDSU if the two schools ended up in the Final.
SDSU has locked up 2 great offenses back to back. They shut down Bama who have NBA talent. They limited Crieghton where all their starters can score. UCONN will need to be ready for physicality and a dirty game.

I’m just enjoying the ride now. Go Aztec’s the biggest challenge I thought we have had was Creighton. It really seems that we are exercising tour demons. Our lose to Creighton last year. 60 fouls a game has become ridiculous. It's all about the Referee's any more.
SDSU's last game was 56-57 and all of a sudden they're a low-scoring team. Don't listen to these clowns. When teams try to out-defense the Aztecs then of course it's gonna be a low-scoring game. The dude used Fresno State as an example of all of SDSU's games. Fresno State is an excellent defensive team like SDSU. Their head coach was an assistant for sdsu for many years before getting the hc job. The Aztecs CAN score but it all depends on how the other teams wants to play them.

It's all a formality. Uconn will win it all. Not because they are the best team in the tournament or the best team left. They aren't. It is because they never played the best teams in the tournament. They played banged up and worn out teams, almost all the titles runs started in the west region, and the NCAA, their private and corporate sponsors and investors, and the media would lose too much money if any of the other three teams win.

the foul on texas at the end of the game when the texas player was blocking out and the miami player jumped over his back might be one of the worst calls i've ever seen
I know this is the popular thinking right now, but that was a foul on Cunningham. It wasn't like Cunningham was just standing there and Omier jumped over him. Omier jumped and then Cunningham started backpedaling underneath him. I am actually surprised it wasn't reviewed for a flagrant.
I notice they didn’t include it in the highlight as it’s sure to spark controversy. To the best of my knowledge, It’s only an over the back if the behind player makes contact to gain an unfair advantage. Omier jumps and gets undercut by Cunningham so it’s actually the correct call.
As per Aurelian's and Sean's replies, the call was legit. My brother played power-forward way back in the day and was recruited by Valvano. In the high-school all-county game he got fouled in the same manner by future Louisville stud and NBA-er Rodney McCray. My brother said the call was legit. Which leads me to conclude: maybe you've not seen many bad calls, let alone worst.
Coach Terry didn't blame the officiating for Texas losing the game. You Hookem Horns fans need to let it go.
