Well, from someone who has been in love with their best friend, I think the best way to go about this is to breach the subject carefully. Bring it up indirectly maybe, slowly lead into the question of whether or not they like your gender (if they're of the same gender that is, us lgbtq+ folks have to worry about that one), and depending on what they say, you can go from there. You could either just come right out of the gate and confess that you like them, do it more subtly, that's really up to you. It's different for everyone, especially depending on how chill the person is. I hope this might help at least a little bit, good luck!
