What’s new in the information space and why is it so important? What tools and strategies do we have to detect and counter disinformation? What do we need tomorrow?
We’re half-way through the super election year of 2024. The support to strengthen conditions for free and fair elections is a cornerstone of democracy support and in the broader Swedish development agenda of promoting freedom and fighting oppression.
Welcome to a Development Talk which will enhance your understanding of the battle of narratives in our new technological landscape.
Some of the speakers who will contribute are:
- Åsa Wikforss, Professor of theoretical philosophy at Stockholm University, member of the Royal Academy of Sciences and member of the Swedish Academy. She currently leads an interdisciplinary research programme, Knowledge Resistance: Causes, Consequences and Cures.
- Therese Pearce Laanela, Head of Team, Electoral Processes at International IDEA.
- Meedan Check Global with stories from elections and their fact checking tool.
- Mathias Hounkpe, Country Director in Mali for International Foundation for Election Systems (IFES) will participate from Mali and share their experience of disinformation campaigns and work with tech companies.
- Sam Gregory, Executive Director for WITNESS will present their tool Rapid Response Force for deepfakes.
- Dr. Heather Ashby is a Principal Consultant with Corner Alliance working at the intersection of national security and technology. She previously served as the associate director for the United States Institute of Peace’s programme on disruptive technologies and artificial intelligence.
- International Media Support, IMS, will share their work on pre-bunking disinformation campaigns ahead of elections in Moldova.
