It’s hard enough to do comedy in your own language, but to do it in another requires ridiculous levels of confidence. As a language nerd, I love the layers of an act like this, both for my admiration at you trying this at all and for providing that funny perspective on how ridiculous my language is.
The humor is peak irony+satire. If you were paying really close attention, you'll have a chuckle that he thought he'd never have to say "she sells sea shells by the seashore"; while listening to him having put himself in the position of needing to say it on stage. Amazing. It's so perfect it is either serendipitous or genius-clever.
And if you listen even more carefully, he has no problems in saying the words correctly, when he doesn't specially concentrate on pronouncing them awkwardly 😁
Please, please give ISMO his Netflix or any other Tv special. He deserves it, he is a natural and the funniest guy I have seen. You crack me up brother 🤣😅😂
I watch your every show on youtube atleast five times. You're damn funny..what i love the most about you is your accent and your gestures while looking for words..lol...ample love from Bhutan!
ever since i saw him do the one where he says ha ta ta ta ta i have been obsessed with him. his jokes are funny, and his accent and broken english makes it even more hilarious
Beauty about his material is that it's clean everyday ordinary stuff... not covered with filthy nasty crap like other wanna be comedians. An entire family can sit and enjoy his performance..
Why can't you just say you like his work without launching into an opinionated judgment of other people's tastes. There's lots of very funny comics who are not for the whole family to sit around and watch.
When I was an English teacher I took great delight in watching my students struggle with this tongue twister. Oh, the a-hole things we do for small joy. Ismo is my fave comedian, hands down. I'm crying with laughter!
Finns just don't use much of the "shh" sound and finnish is spoken in "different part" of the mouth. Also, he of course exaggerates for comedic effect.
It happened today! A young girl was selling seashells at the sea shore in Podgora, Croatia! She must have thought I've lost my marbles when I just couldn't stop laughing by myself when walking by her little stand😂😂😂😂
Ismo is so funny love his skits: Here history of this tongue twister Mary Anning(Victorian Fossilist) is the person this Tongue Twister was created for. Mary Anning used to sell fossils by the sea shore. She was a scientist and had gone down in history as a famous fossilist nobody knows about. This tongue twister was originally a song, with words by Terry Sullivan and music by Harry Gifford, written in 1908, inspired by Mary Anning's life: She sells sea-shells on the sea-shore The even changed her name to Sally "Sally sells seashells by the seashore. She sells seashells on the seashell shore. The seashells she sells are seashore shells, Of that I'm sure."
He took up the whole show to make his point of the bane and zero value of the tongue twister and yet he still couldn't string any one of 6 words in that sentence throughout the whole show. Truly a genius in the art of comedy.
"She sells sea shells by the sea shore. The sells she sells are surely sea shells. So if she sells seashells on the seashore, then I'm sure she sells seashore shells."
Hey ISMO - love your humour about the English language! My son and I came up with a whole bunch of tongue twisters for his birthday party one year and this was the hardest!! "SHE MASSAGED THE SOLDIER'S SHOULDERS" Of course, like the seashell one, you wouldn't often encounter a situation where you'd need to say this... but give it a try!! Btw, my son's Korean friend won the game!
@@timomastosalo Well, if you add up all the letters from every word in that tongue twister then you will know how much wood....it will be the kind of nice pieces you get when you are chopping wood for your fireplace. Woodchucks are smart that way...and thoughtful little creatures...well, if they could chuck wood.... 😂
Anyone know the name of the song at the end? And of course Ismo you are one of the best comedians out there! I saw one of your interviews and I can say that you definitely have a bit of that Seinfeld vibe. Keep up your great work!
@@ZTOKKZ I hope he will just release digital downloads (paid) instead of physical DVDs that are always super hard to get, rare, and have to be imported
Well... why not go see live? There's the tour schedule link in the end of the video. Or I guess you're not American? But there's the merch also, so maybe some of his joke material can be bought.
@The Gooberment-Sucks Some of his Finnish material is so Finland based, he can't maybe translate it. Because in those jokes there are people known in Finland, but that wouldn't say anything for foreigners. Or Finnish public servants work questioned, like road management. Well, that might be translatable - but the problems there relate to a northern country with permafrost problems in the road maintenance - so the problems are pretty local then. But road repairs happen to evry country I guess. Or are wished for in some places :)
Levity aside, there are people that do this where i come from and also many others in my neighbouring countries. Some sea shells and conches are indeed rare, and it also depends on the iridiscence of the shell's colour. Butterfly and rainbow clam shells can be used to make beautiful jewelry... but that is rare and only happens where i live. I don't sell them. I just give them to friends. Kinda depends where you live.
As a Finn, i like Ismo very much but not that much as he speaks in English. I have noticed that it's the same thing for non-Finns but the other way round.
According to the Guinness Book of Records, the toughest tongue twister in the English language is: "The sixth sick Sheik's sixth sheep's sick". Try that one before you attempt driving after a few beers
