- We rented a Magical Winter Cabin in the Arctic Circle, two hours from Rovaniemi, Lapland. This magical winter cabin was our home for 4 days as we explore the wilderness around Äkäslompolo in Northern Finland. We wanted a more peaceful holiday away from all the tourist attractions many go to see in Rovaniemi.
This also gave us a greater chance of seeing the aurora borealis or the Northern Lights. Join us to see if we managed to spot this elusive phenomenon?
Also during our wonderful winter cabin holiday in Lapland, we will stop briefly at the Santa Claus village to see what all the fuss is about, take an overnight sleeper train to the Capital Helsinki and find out more about the indigenous people called the Sami. So there are lots to take away from this Magical Winter Cabin trip, and let's not forget all the SNOW making it a very cosy, snowy Christmas Holiday!

finland is a winter wonderland
This was absolutely wonderful. I have to admit, I actually called out to my husband and teared up when you showed that you had seen the lights! And for some reason, sending a postcard stamped from the Artic circle is just magical. Merry Christmas and thank you for all the inspiring videos this year. They have really made me want to see more of the world.
I think also it is a rarety. I live in middle of Finland and here it may be seen couple of times in winter, but not as bright as in north. We have been in rental cabins north about 4 times now one week period a time and never seen Aurora borealis and the reason is cloudy or snowy weather, so if you head here to Lapland it is a rare to see it!

I'll never forget being in guard duty in the middle of the night, seeing the black silhouettes of our artillery pieces against the Aurora Borealis. It was such a contrast, machines of death with such a beautiful back drop.

Cold but magical, the aurora borealis being the icing on the cake. What an amazing country but couldn't imagine living in the cold and short days. Thank you so much for the trips I have enjoyed with you both over the year. Have a fun Christmas and New Year. =-)
I agree it was fine for a few days but would not like such short days all the time and snow for 6 months. The novelty would soon wear off! Happy Christmas 🎅
@@MemorySeekers Your video is informative and well done. Stands out from the videos of many tourists. The dark time in Lapland lasts a few weeks at most, and in southern Finland only days. There is snow in Lapland for 4-6 months and in March-April the sun shines full of the sky. Winter is a great time. Finnish summers are warm and the sun shines 24 hours a day in midsummer.

Great to see my childhood Lapland through visitors eyes, thanks! The British visitors typically visit Lapland around Christmas, while Finns like to travel to north later in spring, often around Eastern. There are much more day light available then, it's less cold usually and still plenty of snow left around March-April.

Yeah, there's actually a lot more snow in March-April. Snow accumulates whole winter and peaks at around April in Lapland and a bit earlier around March elsewhere.
