    Congratz 🥳 Great information. I wasn't sure how to socialize when not fully vaccinated

    Learned something new.....my wife is disabled and in a wheelchair.....we take our havanese everywhere and meet many many people and dogs....never had an issue ....dog always sits on my wife's lap , everywhere we go . Even take her to dog parks but after witnessing someone's aggressive dog attack someone else's dog , we only take her when no one else is there...not worth the risk.
    But what ive just recently learned is that she is only comfortable meeting people while on my wife's lap. We have to start introducing her to new people while walking her....hopefully she is still young enough ( just over a year) to learn not to be afraid .

      There might be another adjustment period but she’ll likely overcome any fear of walking on her own within a year. Pistachio is 2 years old now and use to startle at every sound, but now she barely flinches when a dog barks!

    My next door neighbor feeds stray cats in the neighborhood about 3 of them and she has a cat of her own. Often times the strays will sit on my back porch to get sun in the mornings/afternoons. Is it safe for a puppy to socialize with stray cats? How do I manage this interaction because the puppy will be using the backyard/ porch to go out to potty and play.

    Thank you for video, I am wondering how can I take the puppy (before full vaccination) in a carrier for long enough without putting him down to pee, any tips for peeing outside while being safe before full vaccination? Thank you

      We had this same problem when transporting our baby Pistachio home when we picked her up from the airport. We had a 6 hours drive back to our house. Honestly, you’re limited on options sometimes. We just stopped at rest stops, found the least populated strips of grass, and encouraged her to potty there. Just keep a leash on and don’t let them investigate any animal droppings or trash, and don’t let them lick any puddles. That’s about the best you can do, and it’s probably enough. The risk of catching a disease in that unvaccinated window is low - just avoid contaminated areas as much as possible and your baby will probably be just fine!

    Do you have any puppy books you'd recommend?

    • @backtobreeality
      @backtobreeality  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We read two - "The Havanese" by Diane Klumb and "Respect Training for Puppies" by Michele Welton. Truthfully though, a lot of the wisdom I learned was from The Trained Havanese Facebook page and Reddit!

    What are your favourite treats for walks/training?

    • @backtobreeality
      @backtobreeality  ปีที่แล้ว

      Any small "training treat"! We usually go with bacon or chicken flavor - sometimes beef flavor upsets P's stomach. My absolute favorite brand is Pet Botanics Training Reward Dog Treats, but they're hard to find in store where I live. So we usually get Buddy Biscuits Training Bites instead.

      @@backtobreeality thanks so much!! I’m getting my first havanese puppy in a month and just stumbled on your videos. They’re making me feel so much more prepared and confident! Thank you so much! Would looooove your input on potty training a havanese.

    • @backtobreeality
      @backtobreeality  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@smittenkitten44 I’m so glad to hear that! I should consider doing a video on potty training sometime. It’s such a different process per dog though. For context, Pistachio wasn’t 100% potty trained until she was 10 months old. But you usually do get to a place before that where they’re only having one accident every now and then as they figure it out.
