I took my grandchildren on the Piney Woods Excursion July 19th of this year. It was great, especially after the kids got into it. The last time I had ridden was in the late 70s from Rusk to Palestine and back.
This locomotive used to be numbered 400. I guess they renumbered it to 7 to celebrate heritage railroading. Locomotive 300 has been renumbered 28. And 201 is now number 316.
Heritage yes. 400 was originally Tremont & Gulf #28. Later after her life on the T&G she was bought by the Magma Arizona RR and renumbered to 7 (As seen in the video). Finally, after her MA service she was bout by the TSRR and renumbered to 400. Similar story with 201, except she was originally Texas & Pacific #316.

The copper paint on the smoke box front looks weird but I'm glad that they restored her back to being Magma Arizona 7 once again
thought it was rust myself at first
Awesome video, especially in high definition. Too bad they were only running one engine when I was up there.
That's pretty cool! I just went yesterday
I live in NC, but most of my relatives live in Texas. How long is the train ride?
+Crater Films It's about 30 miles one way.

I alway feel like coal steam engines are more powerful but I no I'm wrong. It takes the fun out of having to shovel coal.
