I'm currently running a similar USB to M.2 adapter in my Argon EON as well. Works like a charm. Also added to plugin sharerootfs to use the boot drive for config backups.
Pi4, amazon basics 7 port USB hub, 7 x 2TB portable drives salvaged from other projects, cheapest ssd boot drive you can find, mdadm, RAID 6 = great 10TB NAS that's been running for many years with zero issues for less than £250 (plus the cost of the onsite/offsite backups of course, but you'd need those anyway) Pi4 = good, even if you don't have the salvage stuff you can start off small and expand.
I have an Argon EON. Its setup and working fine with one exception; I cannot get the time and date to hold across reboots. I have a battery in the RTC battery holder and I've used to the argon-config to attempt to sync time and date. No joy, it will not work for me. Any ideas? I temped to remove to remove the battery an stick with ntp services.
That's interesting. Although I feel while reusing older hardware would be great for this with current electricity prices running something like a laptop grade hardware at 30-40W would rack up a substantial bill each year.
@@notenoughtech My...Friend...is running this on a i7 7200u, with the disks going in standby when not used and hyper threading disable it's not that bad.

Good idea!

You need to edit out NTP in code. Otherwise it causes conflicts. I read about the RTC and NTP startup policies.
Do you need to turn on trim function?
You don't have to. It's more important in Nas machines that see very heavy use. It's unlikely you'll see performance gains.
USB to M2 link doesn't seem to work
try this: amzn.to/3N2RVcj
Thanks Mat.
As usual thanks for watching Ron. Hope you are great!
Synology NASs are expensive but if someone want to try it before buying it, xpenology is a thing.

I'd love to see some power usage data. At the moment I'm facing about £10 a day with heating periods. So my bills are through the roof.
