One last thing: Kihyun stated (don't remember where/when unfortunately) that during one of the first few days I.M was brought onto the show, Kiki witnessed Changkyun sitting alone on his bed in the dark, a candle cupped in his hands, praying very quietly and trying not to cry. And that that moment was a turning point in how Kihyun saw I.M, and finding willingness to attempt connecting with him. (Not so fun fact I guess, because it's not like we haven't cried enough ╥﹏╥ )
I remember this! It was during a fancon when they were talking about first impressions. Kihyun was talking about the 'sit over there' line and how it was edited, saying that he saw Changkyun standing by the shoe rack seeming so sad, so that was a turning point for him and he told him to sit with everyone. He mentioned the candle too. 💔Then Wonho mentioned Changkyun cried to him, and Wonho advised him to approach the others because they were misunderstanding him.
Even when the guys were annoyed and upset about the whole situation, this shows the compassionate side. How can one not love Monsta X? My heart goes out to Changkyun. He was just a kid at the time and got put into a terrible situation. This is one of the worst stories I've seen an idol went through. I'm glad things are fine now, but this whole thing was so unnecessary. Because of this, Changkyun is forever scarred. =(
The private conversation between Jooheon and Changkyun was the start of one of the best partnerships in kpop. My love and respect for Jooheon grew after that scene. As for the guys' coming enlistment I trust that they will plan it well. If they want a reunion during their 10th anniversary in 2025 it would mean that Jooheon might have to enlist a little earlier. BTS had special exemptions which (unfortunately) other groups didnt get so I expect the 93-liners to enlist by the 1st quarter of next year. As Tammy has rightfully pointed out, we shouldn't be speculating about their contractual details lol but what we can expect (based on my experience with 2PM) is : 100 % OT6 involvement during comebacks, concerts and anniversaries (as in vlives, music shows, variety shows, press conferences etc), on other times lesser of Changkyun with the group as he'll be pursuing his own agenda. A big yes to a Wonho-IM collabo and let's face it....there's gonna be sauce when IM is in control 😂

OMG!! I saw this debut again in ep 9. Before when I saw the debut, I didn't feel it. after getting to know changkyun, this time I'm sad and very very sad to see changkyun's current position. I can feel changkyun's feelings at this time very sad and as guilty as being in their group when they just lost their friend. Right now, I feel like hugging Changkyun and encouraging him. But, I am very impressed with changkyun, even though he was not accepted at that time. That did not weaken him from continuing to dare to prove his rap talent. Until now, the group loves him very much. now Changkyun is monsta x's favorite younger brother. Love monsta x forever 😍

Yes. He said more than once that it was really terrible, that it was very bad and hard for him. If he could change anything in the past, he would cancel this show I'm not sure about the reactions of the members to this. They were at the interview. Q: How did I.M get into Monsta X? Changkyun started talking about no mercy and how terrible it was. Minhyuk and Jooheon stopped him. They said that the question was not about that, and that he must talk about positive things. Shownu, Minhyuk, and Hyungwon barely complain about the past. Jooheon very rarely says it was painful. Kihyun only once said he wanted to die at that time. Changkyun has recalled this with horror several times over the past two years.
The industry is ruthless. This show doesn't even hide it. Of course the artists are way too hard on them. But I feel like for production they cranked the comments up big time. Also the artists know that it is a cold blooded industry and probably experienced it themselves. I feel like they heard the same things, if not worse. That of course doesn't justify it. But, I'm glad to see them now and how they have overcome their not so great first meet.

Giriboy at 18:00 talks like a middle schooler who just learned how to swear for the first time lmao 2. 50:08 not Mr. Yoo Conservative Bro Kihyun's sweater saying "I Ain't No Son Of A Bitch" 💀😂 In regards to Beth's comment about how and why Shownu always ends up on the losing team, Shownu himself actually believes he's cursed with bad luck (even through 'til now), and it makes me extra sad to think of his mindset on No Mercy considering that self-belief he has. Because he's sitting here at an age where this is his last chance to debut, he's put all this time and effort into training, and despite being high in the rankings, practically every hot damn mission he ends up taking a loss. On top of that, one of those losses was under his leadership, and it cost them all Minkyun. And, considering Shownu's also an introvert and believes it's his duty to quietly carry his burdens alone, he probably hasn't allowed himself to vent to anybody about his feelings (and through that, find emotional support). But it just breaks my heart to think that Shownu was probably believing that the universe was against him, that he was being held back and kept down in unsuccess due to forces outside of his control - and again, that's *on top* of the self-blame due to his own actions and choices. It's the kind of thing that makes me wonder about his mindset, and how he originally wasn't supposed to be MX's leader. And as well, how he tends to stay in the back and push his members forward all the time. Not that he isn't humble or this isn't his natural style of leadership, but it's the kind of thing that makes me curious if he might be keeping himself back on purpose a little, as if trying to negate the bad luck that he believes affects his whole life, and by extension, all others around him. I truly believe No Mercy was the most traumatizing for both I.M and Shownu :'(((

You know, I'm so happy that Changkyun is still with Monsta X. But what scares me when I heard that Changkyun leave Starship is that without the contract, it's easier if he wants to leave the group because he's not tied up with the company anymore. No you're def on the right track when you're in an exclusive contract, it is def easier for him to leave now that he has another agency to represents him. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Changkyun loves Monsta X and Mbb too much to leave. ❤️ The beauty of all of this is that now we get more soloist/vocalist/rapper Changkyun with whatever new agency he chooses. He will def shine with the new agency, and I can't wait to see more of him in the future. It's so hard to not cry in this episode, breack my heart seen how they were in this beginig because of a competion. Ep 8 is the personification of the idea" hate the game, not the player". To be kind honest i belive this situacion was Seatle UP from the moment that honey didn't have a "competion" because #gun don't have confidente of beat jooheon and would be preditible that gun position is secure because He is the only one competing with him. I Love the at list they were underst of the situacion was not im falt and how open the honey was to lisen to him.😖

I’ve rewatched this show a lot and although I was angry at the judges all the time, I came to eventually understand sometimes their feelings and criticisms (especially how a lot of the guys did during the song recording this ep… everyone has bad days but idol culture doesn’t accept that and they know)… but man, sometimes it was just too much. All things considered, the way mx debuted was such bullshit 😭 I think I started it like a year after I got into them and my view of ck and the rest of the guys was changed forever. I felt for everyone but the show really had ck fucked up and it’s just pure pain… and he’s an emotional person… I feel like that trauma might still be seeping through a lot of his music. Besides that, my favorite parts from this ep were giriboy and nochang were describing their songs for the first time and ck saying he could be better than honey… the first recorded instance of the cat challenging the tiger 😂
Agreed--the way they were formed and debuted was BS. Changkyun is a total emotional person, and I would def agree with you that this still seeps into his music. This whole episode is so harsh!! Poor poor Changkyun! In fact, all the boys were set up - the existing contestants to hate Changkyun and Changkyun, unknowingly dropped into introvert hell 😕 I'm so glad Jooheon approached him first. He may have been blunt and borderline harsh, but he opened a path through the thorns. And as an empathetic person, Changkyun realised that and grabbed on to the hand Jooheon extended... The next 2 episodes are actually better than this one (this was the pinnacle of shittiness).. ❤️❤️ Poor Wonho - he has been shit on since the beginning... I'm just happy and proud that he was able to take it and work on it and get out of it.. Hyungwon and Minhyuk were so nervous - literally their first time recording with established professionals - and then I felt nervous for them because they wanted to debut together so badly!! It is very well known to the fandom (who watch no mercy) the lines "sit over there" of Kiki to Changkyun - some people even hyungwon say that kiki is very scary at that moment but we should also note that it is EDITED that way for the drama - Kihyun himself (which other member also saw and state that it is true) that kiki only say that cause he saw our changkyun being ALONE and he want him to go sit down with others. As someone who actually watch the show in 2014 - ck entrance is really bad cause it is just after all crying for minkyun (and other trainee) - especially after watching their Deokspatch (which you should watch if you have time cause you really saw their cute side and bonding) BUT FANS BELIEVE THAT CHANGKYUN's ENTRANCE IS ALREADY PLANNED FR0M THE START AND THE LINEUP IS ALREADY FINISH (I mean from the start some already speculated the lineup, we have the main rapper jooheon, the main vocal kihyun, the main dancer shownu - the big three that is for sure will be in the final members, adding to that are the visual and entertainers minhyuk and hyungwon (at that time their vocals and dancing is not that ""WOW"" compare to others but we see how much they GROW and become one of the best in their own crafts over the years), and the producer and vocal wonho) As much of a bad memory it is for the member especially for our Changyun, one can also see how traumatizing the show is to shownu, how he is always on the losing side even when he himself is in a higher rank. (how much he thinks that the world is holding him back to debut even to his age - how much was he questioning himself) THE WORLD OF IDOLS IS REALLY HARSH - and the show no mercy is not even an inch of the bad things happening behind and the process of debuting. This episode is the worse and I want to congratulate you for making it out. Looking forward to your reaction next episode. (This is really a bad timing and out of the topic but I really love the emo black haired kiki - I remember in Deokspatch all trainee said they never seen his aegyo and they want to see it)
Ah, thank you for commenting and explaining things. We've seen quite a few comments that echo the sentiments that you've written on how mbb believe that the lineup was already finished, etc. Knowing the fact that they are bringing Changkyun in the end while starting production on this show is just flat our cruel and disregard to his feelings and all of the guys feelings as well. UGH! It's so frustrating. When filming, no one suddenly says "OH, we realized there's not enough rappers." Are you kidding me? So yes, agree with you on that part. Filming takes time and planning as we all know. Thank you! We managed to make it through this episode much better than we both expected. Maybe it's because we came in mentally prepared for it. It still breaks our hearts to see Changkyun to be in so much pain. We just wanted to give him a huge hug. I can see why he said this period of his life was one of his darkest moments. He was seen as the "bad guy," but honestly, he was put in a really awful circumstance that no one should be in.

It makes me so sad to see this episode because of poor Changkyun. I am sure everyone knew they did this for the drama, but regardless, they still had to live with the consequences of the producers poor introduction. I am sure that I.M. did understand their frustration, considering he almost debuted elsewhere but him having to bear the loneliness and antipathy from everyone seems like such a hardship he must have overcome. I do, however, love the whole bit of fake drama that Hyungwon, #Gun, Minhyuk, and Shownu got up to. You could see Shownu constantly turning his face away from them all so he didn't give away the joke.

Que programa tan cruel, entiendo porque Kiki ha dicho que ha sido de sus peores etapas y que es algo que no le gustaría volver a vivir, fueron muy cruel con todos. A pesar de que I.M no es mi bias, lo entiendo mucho, en especial en este capítulo, ver como lo rechazan, fue muy fuerte, pero que bueno que Jooheon logro abrirse con él, por eso I.M lo respeta mucho y le tiene mucho cariño. The industry is ruthless. This show doesn't even hide it. Of course the artists are way too hard on them.
But I feel like for production they cranked the comments up big time. Also the artists know that it is a cold blooded industry and probably experienced it themselves.
I feel like they heard the same things, if not worse. That of course doesn't justify it.
But, I'm glad to see them now and how they have overcome their not so great first meet.

In regards to Beth's comment about how and why Shownu always ends up on the losing team, Shownu himself actually believes he's cursed with bad luck (even through 'til now), and it makes me extra sad to think of his mindset on No Mercy considering that self-belief he has.
Because he's sitting here at an age where this is his last chance to debut, he's put all this time and effort into training, and despite being high in the rankings, practically every hot damn mission he ends up taking a loss. On top of that, one of those losses was under his leadership, and it cost them all Minkyun. And, considering Shownu's also an introvert and believes it's his duty to quietly carry his burdens alone, he probably hasn't allowed himself to vent to anybody about his feelings (and through that, find emotional support). But it just breaks my heart to think that Shownu was probably believing that the universe was against him, that he was being held back and kept down in unsuccess due to forces outside of his control - and again, that's *on top* of the self-blame due to his own actions and choices.
It's the kind of thing that makes me wonder about his mindset, and how he originally wasn't supposed to be MX's leader. And as well, how he tends to stay in the back and push his members forward all the time. Not that he isn't humble or this isn't his natural style of leadership, but it's the kind of thing that makes me curious if he might be keeping himself back on purpose a little, as if trying to negate the bad luck that he believes affects his whole life, and by extension, all others around him.
I truly believe No Mercy was the most traumatizing for both I.M and Shownu :'(((
Agree.. I thought the same about Shownu. That's why it's always broken my heart everytime I saw him being self-conscious, and so happy when he seems confident with himself.

I know our beloved bear is very mentally mature and strong, but I just hope this "bad luck" belief hasn't worn him down as time has gone on, like water eroding stone over years...especially since he's mentioned that all he has is his family, MX, and Monbebe.
(I'm thinking about the time when MX got their first win, and backstage all Shownu could repeat through tears was, "You guys did this!" And despite MX saying "No, WE did this", Nunu just kept emphasizing that it was the other members, not his own contributions that truly got them the win.)

@@bananalag4318 it's surprising to me that some people out there actually think that Shownu is one of the least popular members. He was one of the first 3 MX members I've gotten to know, way before I became a MBB (Jooheon and Minhyuk being the other 2). However I kinda agree that he tends to push his members upfront possibly because of his past hangups. But we can all see that his members love him and miss him the most during their stages.

I think it does worn him down especially before they got their first win, then the thought slowly disappear as they getting more and more wins and recognition, then it's hit hard on him because of the controversies to the point he lost so much weight that all I can see is bones and more bones. I don't believe that it's just a 'diet' because that's too much of weight loss, and if it's true then why Kihyun said he feels sad looking at Shownu in their Follow comeback vlive? He should be happy that Shownu manage to lose his weight, don't you think so?
But I think Shownu might had starting to push that 'bad luck' thought aside after the Fantasia. I'm pretty sure he saw how much we love him and support him even after everything that has happened and realized he's truly love by us, because he seems to be more carefree and confident, especially now. I noticed him way before I be a Monbebe too, not even knowing there's Monsta X! 😅 And it's so ridiculous that I saw him in running man, fall for him because of his awkwardness and introvert self without knowing who is he except for his name is Shownu. I search his name on ytube right after watching the episode on television just to watch his video playing with the members(of course my eyes only following Shownu and ignore the members because I don't know them at that time) instead of finding out who he really is, and that's it, for years, I just search his name occasionally watching the same type of videos, until Follow era when I finally realized that I actually don't know anything about him and start searching properly. then I proceed to fall in love with Monsta X. Of course Shownu still stuck in my heart, being ultimate bias since then with the other members frequently climbing my heart trying to change my mind.😌❤️

You know, I'm so happy that Changkyun is still with Monsta X. But what scares me when I heard that Changkyun leave Starship is that without the contract, it's easier if he wants to leave the group because he's not tied up with the company anymore. Of course it's his life and he's free to choose what he wants, and a part of me was happy that he's free now as I'm pretty sure he's more happier like this, but it's just that I really would love to see him with his brothers and stay together as a group as long as possible because I love Monsta X too much 🥺😭❤️

No you're def on the right track when you're in an exclusive contract, it is def easier for him to leave now that he has another agency to represents him. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Changkyun loves Monsta X and Mbb too much to leave. ❤️
The beauty of all of this is that now we get more soloist/vocalist/rapper Changkyun with whatever new agency he chooses. He will def shine with the new agency, and I can't wait to see more of him in the future. He really deserves a billion photo cards, albums, etc. that SSE couldn't give him when he released his solo mixtapes.

It's so hard to not cry in this episode, breack my heart seen how they were in this beginig because of a competion. Ep 8 is the personification of the idea" hate the game, not the player". To be kind honest i belive this situacion was Seatle UP from the moment that honey didn't have a "competion" because #gun don't have confidente of beat jooheon and would be preditible that gun position is secure because He is the only one competing with him.

I’ve rewatched this show a lot and although I was angry at the judges all the time, I came to eventually understand sometimes their feelings and criticisms (especially how a lot of the guys did during the song recording this ep… everyone has bad days but idol culture doesn’t accept that and they know)… but man, sometimes it was just too much. All things considered, the way mx debuted was such bullshit 😭 I think I started it like a year after I got into them and my view of ck and the rest of the guys was changed forever. I felt for everyone but the show really had ck fucked up and it’s just pure pain… and he’s an emotional person… I feel like that trauma might still be seeping through a lot of his music. Besides that, my favorite parts from this ep were giriboy and nochang were describing their songs for the first time and ck saying he could be better than honey… the first recorded instance of the cat challenging the tiger 😂
Agreed--the way they were formed and debuted was BS. Changkyun is a total emotional person, and I would def agree with you that this still seeps into his music. It was one of the darkest times in his life. Def feel for him, you know?

I'm so glad Jooheon approached him first. He may have been blunt and borderline harsh, but he opened a path through the thorns. And as an empathetic person, Changkyun realised that and grabbed on to the hand Jooheon extended...

Hyungwon and Minhyuk were so nervous - literally their first time recording with established professionals - and then I felt nervous for them because they wanted to debut together so badly!!

This episode was the worst. The guys and poor Changkyun were put in a horrible circumstance. The video editing to this show is probably the worst we have seen as well just for ratings.
I would have to say that I'm glad they showed Jooheon and Changkyun talking together. Loved seeing Jooheon's honesty and Changkyun was being really vulnerable as well. They both were actually. This was the beginning of one of the best rap lines in KPOP and also one of the best brotherhoods. I will give them this show that...I'm glad that they showed it.
I’m still at the dinner but all I kept saying was now I understand why there is masks 😂 to had the pissed off emotion on your face. I knew jooheon was pissed because he’s so expressive. I think min was harsh and so was Kiki. Okay now I’m going to keep watching.

It is very well known to the fandom (who watch no mercy) the lines "sit over there" of Kiki to Changkyun - some people even hyungwon say that kiki is very scary at that moment but we should also note that it is EDITED that way for the drama - Kihyun himself (which other member also saw and state that it is true) that kiki only say that cause he saw our changkyun being ALONE and he want him to go sit down with others.
As someone who actually watch the show in 2014 - ck entrance is really bad cause it is just after all crying for minkyun (and other trainee) - especially after watching their Deokspatch (which you should watch if you have time cause you really saw their cute side and bonding) BUT FANS BELIEVE THAT CHANGKYUN's ENTRANCE IS ALREADY PLANNED FR0M THE START AND THE LINEUP IS ALREADY FINISH (I mean from the start some already speculated the lineup, we have the main rapper jooheon, the main vocal kihyun, the main dancer shownu - the big three that is for sure will be in the final members, adding to that are the visual and entertainers minhyuk and hyungwon (at that time their vocals and dancing is not that ""WOW"" compare to others but we see how much they GROW and become one of the best in their own crafts over the years), and the producer and vocal wonho)
As much of a bad memory it is for the member especially for our Changyun, one can also see how traumatizing the show is to shownu, how he is always on the losing side even when he himself is in a higher rank. (how much he thinks that the world is holding him back to debut even to his age - how much was he questioning himself) THE WORLD OF IDOLS IS REALLY HARSH - and the show no mercy is not even an inch of the bad things happening behind and the process of debuting.
This episode is the worse and I want to congratulate you for making it out. Looking forward to your reaction next episode. (This is really a bad timing and out of the topic but I really love the emo black haired kiki - I remember in Deokspatch all trainee said they never seen his aegyo and they want to see it)
Ah, thank you for commenting and explaining things. We've seen quite a few comments that echo the sentiments that you've written on how mbb believe that the lineup was already finished, etc.
Knowing the fact that they are bringing Changkyun in the end while starting production on this show is just flat our cruel and disregard to his feelings and all of the guys feelings as well. UGH! It's so frustrating. When filming, no one suddenly says "OH, we realized there's not enough rappers." Are you kidding me? So yes, agree with you on that part. Filming takes time and planning as we all know.
Thank you! We managed to make it through this episode much better than we both expected. Maybe it's because we came in mentally prepared for it. It still breaks our hearts to see Changkyun to be in so much pain. We just wanted to give him a huge hug. I can see why he said this period of his life was one of his darkest moments. He was seen as the "bad guy," but honestly, he was put in a really awful circumstance that no one should be in.
I'm not completely sure, but I have a feeling the girl in the audience at 52:18 is the same one from the cafe episode of Monsta X-ray (season 2, ep 1). 😄

It makes me so sad to see this episode because of poor Changkyun. I am sure everyone knew they did this for the drama, but regardless, they still had to live with the consequences of the producers poor introduction. I am sure that I.M. did understand their frustration, considering he almost debuted elsewhere but him having to bear the loneliness and antipathy from everyone seems like such a hardship he must have overcome. I do, however, love the whole bit of fake drama that Hyungwon, #Gun, Minhyuk, and Shownu got up to. You could see Shownu constantly turning his face away from them all so he didn't give away the joke.

Que programa tan cruel, entiendo porque Kiki ha dicho que ha sido de sus peores etapas y que es algo que no le gustaría volver a vivir, fueron muy cruel con todos. A pesar de que I.M no es mi bias, lo entiendo mucho, en especial en este capítulo, ver como lo rechazan, fue muy fuerte, pero que bueno que Jooheon logro abrirse con él, por eso I.M lo respeta mucho y le tiene mucho cariño.
Creo entender porque metieron a I.M a mitad del show, obvio lo hicieron para añadir drama pero también creo que necesitaba a alguien que pudiese complementar a Jooheon, el rap de gun es muy similar al de Honey por lo que se pierde y el rap de Yoonho es muy suave, I.M tiene un rap poderoso pero también suave y melódico, ambos se complementan muy bien, tienen equilibrio.
Changkyun es el bias de Beth, pero para mí, tampoco es mi bias. Aunque él no es nuestro bias, fue muy difícil verlo pasar por todo eso. Nadie debería pasar por lo que él pasó. Lo hicieron todo por las calificaciones, y eso es una lástima total. Se nota que eso causó una enorme cicatriz en su vida.
Estoy muy contento de que Jooheon haya ido a hablar con Changkyun. Fue tan honesto y crudo con él y quería aclarar las cosas. Es tan agradable que Changkyun y Jooheon compartieron una conversación juntos. ¡Ese fue el comienzo de una de las mejores líneas de rap conocidas en KPOP! Si no lo mejor. ja ja.
Y sí, estoy de acuerdo en que #GUN era similar a Jooheon. Jooheon era un rapero mucho más fuerte y por la actuación se puede decir que Changkyun también es un gran rapero que puede complementar muy bien a Jooheon.
