I am watching this morning with my cup of ☕. Thinking... ahh yes covering seats... what a joy! I've got more ahead of me than I though. Nice job again! They look great! 👍
@@DubWerks Honestly, JCWhitney was THE source for new parts in those days, you could get OEM or the cheap repro parts, you learned quickly to pay the extra for oem after you spent a week trying to get a crappy aftermarket fender to fit. Also junkyards were full of them back then so pickin' was easy. God I miss the smell of a bug.
You did a fabulous job on the seats 👍! I especially like the red color. They look sharp. I remember my father bought a 66 Bug in September 65. It was Ruby red with white leatherette interior. In 67 my one uncle had a brand new 67 black bug with red leatherette seats. Looked really sharp. I remember seeing two college girls driving a new Porsche 911 in the summer of 67 at the Jersey shore. It was a dark blue with red either leather or leatherette seats. The girls were cute but I was also interested in that cool looking 911. I was 15 at the time a year away from driving. Seeing both the girls and car made my whole day at 8am!
Your not kidding when you say you only get one chance to get it right when it comes to cutting the opening for the lever mechanism. Good job. Doing mine now in the same color in Beaumont CA
That looks great! Thanks for showing this...I need to do mine and this is a good resource. Can't wait to see the car! And a Facebook group would be cool
Hey man Kevin here from Australia. One word WOW. If the rest of the job turns out as good as this seat your gunna have a really smick interior something to be really proud of. Hurry up on the next video. 😉 Anyhoo stay safe and stay well. ✌ Peace man.
Realy nice work! I have to say I haven´t had the confidence to do the interior like seats etc. my self on mine, so it´s nice to see that it´s not realy that hard :) I´m currently still working on my ´71 that "I" bought 6 years ago (I´m 21 now) as an accident car (previous owner burnt the motor down on the highway). And yeah he´s on a good way probably could have finished it already if I wouldn´t have had so much stress with school... but yeah nice to see someone young as me also working on a beetle :D Greetings from Italy ^^
Thanks! It was surprisingly easy to do the seats. I feel the same way as you finishing wise, if I didn’t have to had gone to school everyday it would have been done lol
Does the seat release knob (that you cut a hole in the material to refit) just pull straight off? I'm redoing some seats but I don't want to accidentally break it just by brute forcing it.

Nice job Mr Werks the bug is coming along, keep those updates coming.
And always Enjoy the Day
Thanks Mike!
I remember doing this in1983. It's been a minute, but it's nice to see some things don't change....nice job!
Bet you could still get some stuff from the dealer to do the interior in ‘83!

Nice, nice work, Dub! Seat looks beautiful and I love the color! It and your black paint job will be a striking combination. You do good work!

Thanks Dave! Red was original in mine, my car was black and red too. It’s definitely a sharp combo.
Great job, great patience in completing your seat.

Yup as long as the knife stays in the metal box it should be good. Good luck with yours!

Thanks Craig! Should be at a show this year finally! I’ll have to start the group.

It should do. There is a little metal clip that holds it tighter but they should just pull.
@@DubWerks thanks - had found it (really didn’t want to break anything but it came off ok).
looks great
Thanks Andy!
Did you clear coat the frame after paint? If so what type?
Yeah, I used a semi gloss Rustoleum clear.
Looks great…
Thank you!
View #36 at 11:47 PM on 6/22/20 - NJ..... looking good
Thanks John!
Hello. what is the exact color of these covers. thank you
It’s just the red covers from Wolfsburg West. I think they pick the best match to stock from TMIs offering and only sell those.
That's better than factory!
Thanks Joe!
Good video and a very nice job on the restoration. It would have been a great video if you had spoken a little clearer and with a bit more confidence.
Great Job 👍 now can you come over to my house do seat covers I have 69 VW Squareback.
