    This is the exact scenario I found myself in last night (at a dinner party and I was handed a plastic-y Scenes From The Great Lakes commemorative playing cards) and this is pretty much the exact trick I did (I did Larry Jennings' A Problem With Hofzinser, which is like 90% the same as this one). Such a great impromptu go-to! I like your variation a lot.

      What's the difference between this one Jennings'?

    • @themagicofmikedavis
      @themagicofmikedavis ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jonathanskold1213 the sequencing of the final reveal. In the version that I do (it's been a while since I've referenced the written instructions, but I'm pretty sure this is how Jennings' version goes), after the magical gesture, the packet of Aces is shown to have one card face down, then show one Ace is face up in the rest of the deck, then finally show their selection has made its way among the Aces.

    You are performing all sorts of moves right under there noses…and everything is totally undetectable! Truely, the signs of a MASTER!!!

    This is awesome, and going straight into my list of go to tricks. Perfect timing because I was going through Beyond Fantasy again last night, and learned Hopscotch, which I also really like.

    Are those Richard Turner bikes or P3 bikes? It’s hard to tell bc the patterns are so similar, but I’m almost positive those aren’t standard bicycles. Just curious. Love this trick btw. I’ve been doing the same effect for over 29 years only I use the spectators hands and have them sandwich the aces. I also have a buddy in our local IBM and SAM groups who came up with the same trick! That makes lucky 3!
    Study Johann Hofzinser magicians! If you haven’t already, you’re missing out on one of the masters! For whatever reason, his name isn’t as well known among beginner magicians as Dai Vernon, Larry Jennings, or Ed Marlo. But Hofmzinser’s work, Michael Ammar, Bill Malone, and Brother John Hamman have been my secret weapons of the legendary masters…along with my personal favorite- Juan Tamariz. Great work here. You fit a lot of valuable info into a short time here.

      Thanks Brian!! I really appreciate those kind words. That’s crazy that we all created the same effect haha. Great minds think alike! And yes, Hamman is another secret weapon of mine as well. Always get inspired with a quick look through the yellow book.
      As for the cards, these are called Maiden Back by P3 and they are fully marked! Easiest readers I’ve ever come across. Thanks again!

      @@SeanDevine I’m sure you’ve had that happen more than once too! Twice I have come up with a trick on my own (or a new handling or different layering of principles) and go perform for my fellow magicians.
      After the meeting when we go meet for food and/or drinks, I’ve had Marcus Eddie and Edward Boswell (both are Austin based like myself - I actually went to high school with Marcus) come up and show me the same trick! Great minds think alike as you said.
      And yeah, Hamman had a gimmick phase and a sleight of hand phase. Both phases of his career have some of the most incredible concepts that somehow got lost to time (for most magicians). My introduction to him was the VHS series Alan Ackerman taught. I think it’s called “Allan Ackerman teaches John Hamman” and comes in volumes.
      Another great project is called “The Lost Works of Bro. John Hamman.” It’s 97 effects performed and explained on DVD. That along with “The Secrets of Brother John Hamman” (aka the yellow book) each provide an arsenal of magician foolers and a plethora of effects no one does today.
      And finally, yes, those are awesome cards 😎 It’s why I asked. Have a great week my friend and keep up the great work!

    That trick is so cool ! I've been in that exact situation you're describing so many times ! And that's stupidly annoying ! So now, I have a list of tricks (all the tricks I know and I like) on my phone, and I look at it every time this happens ! But the sandwich trick is always my go to !
