    I've said it before in response to previous videos and I make no apologies for saying it again, the sheer professionalism, attention to detail and total foundation in empiricism is stunning. On the basis of what we have seen thus far it is hard to imagine any outcome other than a safe passing of the 1000 mph mark. However the unexpected remains and this project is breaking new ground so it cannot be assumed, which is why the methodical and meticulous approach is so important. Brilliant job from the whole team.

      He's good but imo they need a commander in chief that isn't the pilot. There is way too much going on for him to deal with this part too. Richard Noble was a good leader and Andy drove it last few times. They need someone like Richard to take over the main lead role or let someone else pilot/drive the rocket.

    It's why you build speed gradually, so that problems can be found and corrected.

      I'm not sure that could work. Bare in bind this is dust moving at 600mph and not a gas at little more than surface air pressure. The amount of pressure that dust is being forced towards the car maybe too much than just pressuring the car could handle. Just a wild thought though.

    For moisture buildup in the cockpit overnight I would use a dehumidifying crystal system, they're cheap and inexpensive and require no electricity. They're great for pulling unwanted humidity out of large and small areas. I don't know what your canopy is made out of so I am just suggesting what I use to clean windows, mirrors etc. For keeping the canopy clean, after the car has been cleaned I would first clean the inside of the canopy with just water and a lint free towel. Then to clean any leftover oil's in residues use a high proof rubbing alcohol on the canopy, apply and remove with a clean white cotton T-shirt or or preferred lint free towel. Once you accomplish that on the outside of the canopy I would use a anti-static spray to keep the dust off of the canopy. On these steps don't overuse one side of the towel, always flip the towel over or re-folded so you always have a nice clean contaminant free surface . I also wear powder free latex gloves to keep my hands clean and to not contaminate the work area. For other advice on keeping the canopy clean you might want to contact a diving shop, they know a lot of tricks and products for keeping their masks clean and moisture free.

    Well done de-brief - and no different that at least 50 that I've been part of. It's simply how you run a project correctly. You do a whole project de-brief with all teams; then each of the teams does their own individual team de-brief with its members in a separate meeting where you discuss items specific to that team and then you assign action items to individual team members to solve. It's not special to this project, it's how all good projects are organized and work.

    CAT use a land based system for their autonomous truck and mining operations where millimetre precision is critical. The transmitters are placed around the mining site and their exact positions are known. Therefore a far more precise system can be produced. It is also less effected by weather and atmospheric conditions.

    I look forward to seeing you guys break the land speed record. Good hunting!

    • @AmaroqStarwind
      @AmaroqStarwind 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      *Materials:*
      1. Kevlar has a higher tensile strength-to-weight ratio, lower cost, and potentially higher stiffness than carbon fiber... But it doesn't handle compressive stress all that well. If you made a composite of both kevlar and carbon fiber layered or woven together, you might get a new super material of sorts.
      2. I also hear that chemically densified wood can be a pretty good super material that you guys might be able to experiment with.
      3. Recently, there was also a discovery about making a material with the same chemical, thermal and electrical properties as gold, but with the weight and hardness of plastic, essentially an “alloy” of plastic and gold.

    • @AmaroqStarwind
      @AmaroqStarwind 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      *Aerodynamics:*
      1. Now regarding the aerodynamics of the vehicle, I would suggest looming into exploiting ground effect via venturi tunnels. I have a feeling that ground effect skirts won't be super practical on an uneven surface like a cracked desert, but it might be helpful on smoother surfaces like runway and tarmac. Good way to keep downforce high and drag low.
      2. For parachutes... if you design the parachutes to spin, you can get greater deceleration relative to their surface area. This might be really helpful for an emergency.

    • @AmaroqStarwind
      @AmaroqStarwind 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      *Humidity Problems:*
      Lastly, your condensation-in-the-cockpit issue... I'd recommend putting some kind of desiccant in the cockpit, like a block of silica-based aerogel.

      The issue with the humidity inside the cockpit does seem like a real issue though, and I feel like the aerogel suggestion would be a pretty quick fix.

    One question, is the steering calibrated to give less input to the ground wheel the faster the vehicle is travelling,
    As this would decrees the amount weaving at high speeds.

      Mickael Taylor, Metric isn't the object no matter what everybody else uses, 1,000 mph is the nice round even numbered record there going for, not 1609.34 kilometers an hr.There's actually three country's that still use imperial. Liberia, Myanmar and the U.S. Of course in my own tiny way metric gets stopped at the property line. At a micron level I chose to ignore the over paid under worked clowns in Ottawa and our "official" measurement system. So make that three plus at least .000001 :-)

    at a high speed reaching speeds to 1000mph the car might take off like a plane maybe more weight needed on the front the streeing would not work if the front lifted up due to the high speed would pull the noise up think you would experience this at 850mph... hope theres weights in the front of the car once the rocket installed n they do the land speed record... good luck il drive if need a back up driver need briefing what to do thow 🤔 lol

    • @Akm72

      Data from here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Land_speed_record
      The current land speed record is over a measured mile and is 763.035 mph (1227.986 km/h) averaged over two runs in opposite directions.
      The Bloodhound LSR vehicle is designed to be capable of slightly over 1000 mph.

    • @phillee2814
      @phillee2814 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      They hold the current 1st and only supersonic record at 760.343mph), and were founded by the previous holder, Rickard Noble. The target speed is 1,000mph+
      That will have Richard's involvement in LSR holding teams from Octo 4th 1983 to date (so half the jet/rocket era), as he still acts in a consultancy role, although he had to sell the team to bring the cash influx they needed to finish it and conduct the runs in RSA. No serious opposition exists at present (Aussie Invader 5R seems have got stuck without money, and doesn't appear to be 1K capable anyway, although it might have taken the existing record if they could afford to run it), so UK dominance is set to continue for some time.

    • @gladyssellar6408
      @gladyssellar6408 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Phil 👍wow 1k it’s a impressive number to aim for , and with the technology of today ( wind tunnel , computer generated designs ) a possible winning chance, however it’s a big jump from old record to 1k + , if anything was to happen wrong it would be driver not technical in my opinion 😀

    • @phillee2814
      @phillee2814 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@gladyssellar6408 There is no wind tunnel yet built that is capable of 1,000 mph speeds at ground level - it is all done with computational fluid dynamics.
      Even the few supersonic capable wind tunnels are useless, as they can't handle how the car reacts to the supersonic shockwave reflecting from the (uneven) desert floor.
      So once they go supersonic next year they will be breaking fresh ground, and every run Andy does will be more complex than that of any test pilot, who at least has an ejector seat - not much point on Bloodhound, as the most likely crash scenario would involve rolling, so cockpit integrity is the best safety available. Even in his day job, Andy never flew supersonic at 0' AGL! And he's the only man on earth who has ever been verified to have driven supersonically, so nobody is better qualified for the job (and before anyone say anything about it, I'm aware of Stan Barrett's failure in the Budweiser rocket car, which was a stunt with lots of backing but no independent witnesses and no sonic boom, orchestrated by a film crew, and with no timekeepers allowed to watch, never mind measure, the stunt).

Or is it play it by ear at the top speed run thanks again 👍😀
