But yeah last year was a bit worrying as it was kind of starting to look like we'd keep on sending pop. However I agree that we should be sending more of this sort of Dutch stuff, I'm curious to see how some typical Dutch pop would hold in Eurovision. His lyrics are mostly very deep, but the melody is happy, danceable and the clips of his song are presented in a fun way. Joost himself said that his musical style is diverse. When Joost was asked what song they should listen to in order to understand you. He answered Florida 2009 (it's about his parents) and Wachtmuziek (it's about mental health). I recommend listening to them. You have to translate it, because he sings in Dutch.
