Thank you for a most informative video .I live in Pukekohe which is Maori for the hill of kohekohe trees ,being a immigrant I was rather surprised that very few locals have ever seen one nor knew what a Kohekohe tree looked like . I found two very close together and I will be watching these very closely for alternating buds and flowers .

Is there a particular way to take leaves for tea without negatively impacting the plant?
Yes there are and every plant is different. It would be the same way you harvest vegies and fruit - karakia, harvesting specific area of plant etc.
I wonder if this grows in Waitakere Ranges?
