I got a set of these as a child, they had black pear shaped flights and jet stems...still playing with them nearly 40 years later. A great ergonomic shape for all sizes of hands!
Great reviews-especially helpful to beginners and people returning to darts after a long absence. Good to see darts up close to see shape, grip, aerodynamics and balance with different shafts/flights. You throw ALL darts superbly so very well done despite your injury. I always admired John Lowe more than any other player-stance, focus, concentration and throw was perfection!! Watched his live 9 darter 501-what a historic moment in the sport of darts! I was always intrigued by the darts he used, and after seeing your review on the Unicorn Mirage Phase 5 sent for some 22g darts for £39.99-a saving of £20 on Amazon, and over £50 on the Unicorn site. The advantage I see is that the grip is always going to be in one spot. With a longer barrel it is tempting to keep changing your grip when you are beginning, and can forget how to repeat that grip. That's just my view and I am no expert lol! Anyway, the ones in the video look great and seem remarkably stable in flight. You look comfortable throwing them. And like you say, you should always try anything once-nothing to lose and maybe-just maybe-a John Lowe junior will be waiting in the wings...!!!
Hi Mark, many thanks! Glad the reviews help. John Lowe is a pleasure to watch and one of the reasons I got into vintage darts collecting was due to seeing Lowe talking about darts in his video - Darts: The John Lowe Way. I used to throw the Lowe darts a lot better in the past but its a dart I will always be fond of. Hope they work out well for you too then! :)
I can't be the only person who would love to see these darts have some grip at the rear / signature section? Another great review brother, we all appreciate the effort you put into your videos.
Thanks mate, I think as they are what Lowe used they will always be like that but I can see a grip on the rear been good for rear grippers, you can always have grip added, just send them to a custom dart maker like custommadedarts.com :)
Great review, as always! I just love the new setup with the slow motion tosses and the graphics in the background. The slow motion tosses, particularly, give me the feeling like i understand the dart much better. Really high quality like to your vids these days overall!
Wonderful to see you finally review the classic, timeless, legendary, beautiful Lowe's, Darren (as you may remember from my activity on Darts Nutz (yes, I know I haven't been on there for a while, and I do apologise, but I have been busy and distracted with other things), my long time and all time favourite dart: I own and throw - and love - the Golden Titanium version). Great video and review, and congratulations on your increasingly slick and professional videos - a splendid job indeed! Keep up the good work...!!! :-)
Great review Darren these are a really great dart that have stood the test of time, my only bug bear with these is I wish they came with the unicorn rainbow flights!
I would agree completely if I could still throw them as well as I used to, having said that I have been doing ok with them lately, I think I may go back to the 23g though as that is what I threw before. But definitely one of the best darts ever :)
i have these darts also in gold, i liked these darts but i used to hold them at the rear wear there is zero grip, i ended up swapping for mvg 25g, big jump in weight i know but it worked.
Thanks mate, glad you like then! :) At present I have been throwing the Harrows Rapide a lot but it changes often, I have quite a few favourites but never seem to stick with one set longer than a couple of months but I often come back to some over time.
pear flight medium stem or slicks worked well for me with these darts, i was waiting for another one of ya face expressions when you missed the third treble 20 😂
I think Lowe used the pears and slik stiks too. LOL! I was annoyed more than anything as I have done that about 8 times on my first throw in the last 5 days or so, throw a 140 first throw and then pants after it lol!
Look forward to it, looked at those but length of barrel a tad long for my liking, love my Gary Anderson darts but if they were shorter they would be amazing! Straight barrel around 48mm is perfect for me!
Darts Review Channel thought about it but mine are 21g so would need to buy a set of 23g and modify just to keep the weight as I'm not keen on the putty idea, looking forward to trying the diamonds, should be delivers for when I'm home from work tomorrow am 😁
Thanks, yeah the Lowes used to be one of my most favourite darts, still quite fond of them but dont throw them as well as I did before I injured my shoulder :)
@@DartsReviewChannel will you, in the future be reviewing the new unicorn sigma dart? I think it's called HS. They have a blue colour and cost about £110.
Great review. Think I’ve requested it before, but would love you to review Monster Gunner 4’s when you get a chance. Thinking about making a new purchase and do actually use your videos for advice (have purchased Paul Lim darts from your review)
Thanks! Not sure I will be paying £70 for the Monster darts though unless they send me some to review as its only 20g and looks more for a rear gripper. :)
I think the pear shaped flights seem to give the smoothest flight in just about every review. Maybe it's just me, but that's how it seems to me. With every dart I've ever thrown, I've always had smoother flight with pear shaped. Much more noticeable with my poor throw. 😂
Maybe, its hard to be sure, I always feel more comfortable using standards though, dont think I have tried the oversized pears like what Beaton uses so may have to get some of them to try :)
@@DartsReviewChannel this inspired me to chop down some old flights. After a couple of experiments, I found that cutting some old standards into a long kite shape, has given me stability, consistency, and a very flat angle of entry. Love that, as darts going in low, aren't covering the treble anymore.
I use a set of John Lowe 25grams and they fit my hand perfectly! But want to try experimenting with different sizes of stems what is the difference between short and medium stems?
I remember when unicorn darts were thicker at the thread end, if you did not use unicorn stems it produced a lip. vice versa unicorn stems would not fit flush to other brands of darts .
I think I have some, but they are a different name, I got them when they were first made and took the pics of them for Retriever Sports who make them, not sure what weight I had though.

Great review again mate and unlucky not to hit the max!! Don't know about you bit unicorn frustrate me with these cheap flights/stems on all the world champ/signature range etc! In my opinion if your buying a players darts they should come set up with flights/stems the player uses, as your buying his darts!! Not like your not getting charged enough for them these days, seems like the smaller brands give better quality than the big boys most of the time for a fraction of the cost!
Darts Review Channel absolutely, think I have a couple sets lying around somewhere ha, have you ever got round to purchasing the boris koltzov darts we spoke about previously?
flash boredom exactly! To much emphasis put on packaging and silly cases that usually get left in a corner and collect dust then you have to outlay more cash to buy flights/stems to see if the players darts you bought work for you with their supplied set up!
Darts Review Channel I've just ordered a set of straight barrel winmau diamond fusion 3 (22g) for a try, think you will like the koltzov if your a straight barrel fan,
@@DartsReviewChannel thank you. I'm curious though, how do these flights and stems compare with what John Lowe started out with? i.e. the slikstik stems and pear-shaped flights. Does it change a lot about the balance and performance etc?
Well I never liked the slik stiks so for me its not a problem if it did change but all stems and flights will have some affect if they are different, in most cases it will depend on what suits the player as much as anything else.

Darts Review Channel thats very true, thought about designing a set, where in your opinion does the best job on customs?
Tony at Madhouse Darts or Custommadedarts.com which is his site for customs and Grays, but Grays is a little harder to contact at times.
The best darts of all time.
Yes quite probably :)
