Interesting to see how much of a smallball game this has evolved to! Cool to see how the game has changed while I've been on hiatus.
You guys might be drafting a little too polite, and I personally think meshing "heroes" and "villains" isn't really a big deal since Miis make chem links very intertwined, but I'm also not sure if there are any characters in the current meta that really warrant gunning for or if characters are seen as quite equal. Either way, this is definitely some cool stuff.
Would love if in a year you guys made a video with other pro slugger players where you have to make a tier list together live, giving different opinions and having to agree on where to put people. Would work best with an odd number so you could vote if there’s disagreements
I think there’s been a little bit of talk in the discord server about maybe making a community tierlist but this time it is only a handful of people who participated in the tournament. Which I personally would enjoy. Not sure if there are any actual plans for that though

ok so for my draft would be mario as capion luigi, Pianta, baby peach, yellow toad, blue yoshi another pianta, peach, yoshi
Is the best advice on picking characters with low chemistry to just pick a Mii, or just deal with a chemistry break? I enjoy K Rool and Kritter a lot but the lack of chemistry to other characters makes teams I try with them seem rigid at best and prone to counterpicking.
do you need a nunchuk to move in the batters box and have like a pci?
You can also move if you use sideways wiimote
Is there a reason you don’t select the star versions of the characters for the boosted stats?
Well usually in a 1v1 you would use the normal versions, but you can definitely play with starred characters if you like!
What’s the best possible non chem team? Would it be different than just the all highest tier characters?
what do you mean by non chem team? as in every character can't have chem with another player? or do you mean missing more than 2 chem links in the batting lineup?
Do you mean if items are turned off? Well chemistry still matters in the field so sticking in certain groups is still a good idea. I don't think all the high tiers would mesh perfectly so there's definitely still a lot of room for nuanced teambuilding there. Would be a fun video idea!

@@cameroncole858 like (I am assuming) becket said chem can still matter as it impacts the fielders (you throw faster to someone who you have good chem with.) I would personally focus on characters who can hit consistently, while still keeping to a fairly strong chemistry. So yoshi captain with Mario triple pianta birdo and some combination of toads maaaaaybe 1 noki for use in a rundown.
And for the other team more or less the team joebo runs, although if you don’t want 4 magikoopas an alternative is to grab a mii and link to a kritter as they are considered one of the best infielders. I am personally not big on bloopers star swing so trying to reach for petey with the Yoshi team can be a bit tough, although you can certainly reach for boo with the bowser team.
Of course this is all assuming you don’t step on each other’s toes when drafting. For example if someone picks Mario captain and you pick birdo captain then it might be better to not strictly stick to chem.
Also becket brought up outfield to infield chem in the video (even though he gave a meh example, I usually only care about right field to 1B) I am the main person promoting that strategy.

A: Waluigi, Toadsworth, Bowser Junior, Grey Shy Guy, Monty Mole, Yellow Magikoopa, Wario, Boomerang Bro, Paragoombah
B: blooper, daisy, pirannah plant, green toad, toadette, blooper, peach, king boo, wiggler
The second team is so good it duplicated Blooper
Is there an online play mod that I can just install right to my Wii? Or am I limited to using Dolphin right now if I want to play against someone else?
Just Dolphin unfortunately. But plenty of people in the discord server willing to help set up and play if you ever want!

I kinda want to learn this game but coming from mssb it seems goofier, less competitive, and with more bs. in other words it looks like a party game, should I bother?
If you appreciate those things then go for it lol. The good thing is you don’t really have to “learn” much to be an effective player, you just have to play the game, especially against other humans

@@MarioSluggersFanclub most of the problems I have come with how inherently jank being forced to play on a wii clicker is. on dolphin its really easy to use a mouse as a replacement for a sensor bar, have a button to simulate shaking to swing the bat throw in the field and mash for baserunning, and otherwise play on a gamecube controller which I would be used to coming from superstar baseball, but idk if thats legal in competitive play
