Will do! I have a question.. have you heard Rogue cronus magnum iii I am wondering if this is comparable. I am set to buy magnepan 1.7i and adding GR Research triple open baffle sub. I wonder if this or the Rogue would compliment the Maggie's better. I am also looking at the Aries 2 Dac but I'm not sure that will be the best synergy with Maggie's. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thank you Thomas and as always nice video! Your production value is legitimate my friend!!!
@ThomasAndStereo , thanks so much for those videos. I discovered your channel as I would like to pursue my journey to tube amp and your content is truly inspirational.
Just listen one time and I say the onbaord dac make me fall in love with her voice. Thank you so much for a fantastic channel! Also thanks to all the different Misters.
Waiting for the tubes to warm up is not work. Tube rolling is not work. This is all fun and part and parcel in owning tube gear. Thank you for this Thomas.
This is why my Cayin LA 34 now sounds wonderful with either the 4X PsVane el34 tubes or the 4X Mullard el34 tubes together with 2X PsVane 12au7 gold pin and either 1x JJ Ecc 803S gold pin or 1X PsVane 12ax7 gold pin. It took time and patience trying out many tube brands, but I am now fully satisfied and comfortable with the wonderful sound of this Cayin LA34 at 32 watts per channel matched with a Marantz cd6004 and the small 120W Wharfedale Diamond 10.4 Floorstanding speakers in my bedroom. All these I bought brand new in mid 2014 and are still playing beautifully today 2 to 3 hours per day.
Thomas, your in depth review on this and the one where you compare it to two others was highly instrumental in making a most perfect purchase. The Cayin CS-55A with KT88 tubes makes my Magnepan LRS's and Zu Audio DWmkiii's sing, dance, project, engage and blossom like nothing else. Thank you to you and your buddies for doing such a deep dive on a bunch of integrated tube amplifiers. I'm so happy!
Great review, Thomas! Love the format of going to your friends, showing their spectacular systems with good B-roll footage, and getting their impressions! Very helpful way of doing things.
@@ThomasAndStereo I need some friends like yours! I don't know anyone into audio in the town I am working in currently. I thought I made a wrong turn in Albuquerque but instead I got stuck! I was born here but I like Las Vegas and the audio scene better.
Cayin amps look gorgeous! Their 845 amp seems to have proven an 'end game' purchase for several buyers according to reviews I've seen. It would need to be at the price mind you. I made my 'end game' purchase last year and went back to solid state after tubes for several decades. I wanted the convenience of an all in one streamer/amp/phono stage box and it sounds great with my new hi end speakers. I got my twenty something year old Audio Innovations 500 amp serviced before I gifted it to a friend. I hooked it up to my new speakers with my really high quality new cables just to compare. That was a mistake I think. I realised I just prefer the sound of tubes and here I am watching tube amp reviews some months later.
Excellent review, and thank you for always putting in 200% for your reviews! Your reviews are always well thought out and thoroughly investigated by bringing in your friends to test in various setups!
Thanks Simon, yeah just to make this video, it took me 3 days of filming and editing. Not to mention all the time listening, meetings and traveling. Glad you noticed I put a lot of effort into it and in this case, for free.
This video is four years old now so I don't know if anyone will even read this, however I wanted to add my thoughts. I bought a CS-55A on the basis of this video. To say I was massively impressed is an understatement. It performs so much better than any equivilently priced solid state amp, you cannot even compare them. For context I currently own a CS-100A and I have also owned a PrimaLuna Dialogue Premium and some very decent solid state amps including Cambridge Audio 851W, Denon PMA-A110, and Cambridge Audio Edge A. I can comfortably say, that of all these amps, the little CS-55A was my favourite, and that includes my current CS-100A. Perhaps it was the synergy it had with the speakers i was using at the time, some Monitor Audio Silver 300's, but it simply sounded so good. I have upgraded my speakers since to Monitor Audio Gold 200 4G, then Gold 300 5G and Platinum 100 IIs, and even though technically they are all superior to the Silver 300's, none have to my ears sounded just so 'right' as the CS-55A and Silver 300 pairing. So there you have it, my opinion is don't waste thousands chasing your audiophile dreams and the ultimate in detail and clarity, simply buy a CS-55A and some MA Silver 300's and live happily ever after.
Thanks Thomas nice review ! I can not tell ya how much I love that 3d holographic imaging thats the icing on the cake ! Why I love KEF speakers and only owned 2 of them thats sad ! Waiting on LS60s !!!! 😆
You convinced me I was undecided and lost ....about which amp to choose Not anymore. I pull the trigger and my new Cayin 55 is on the way. Thank You for sharing your knowledge
Thomas...youre the man. I like your advice and enjoying the experience of tubes. Im a new tube-head, but I enjoy screwing around with different components to see which make my tube amp and speakers shine. Im at the point that the work up is just as fun and satisfying...especially after everything pays off with beautiful sound coming out your system.
Thomas, can you also share your perspectives on the DAC and phono stage on this unit? I can't find anyone covering it. Thanks again for a great review.
Thomas thanks for this video and exploring gear out of China. I bought this from MusicTeck, which has amazing customer service, last Friday and got it Wednesday which is remarkable. Arrived in perfect condition. Set it up next to my long time McIntosh C2200 and MC402. Plugged it into my Aerial Model 8B which are not that efficient (86db) 4 ohm speakers so I was not expecting too much. First few hours my impressions was well it's good, better than expected. After about 20 hours my Mac gear is sitting on the floor. This thing is unbelievably good! Playing through the Aerials, it has more top to bottom, mids are more lifelike, the volume levels are insane for this "low" watt amp. The only thing the Mac stack has over this little integrated tube amp is bass control and more power which I seldom use. Please review more of gear out of China that are high quality like Cayin.
So right on tube rolling , after 7 years with 12ax7 EH tubes in my pre I replaced them with JJ gold pins , wow . The EH's are good but the JJ's give better extension in upper and low ranges , clearer and more realistic mid bloom .
seems interesting i got pulled to the more power side on sunday. i went from looking at lower power stuff to now i think im either gonna buy parasound 23+ or 21+
Cayin and Line Magnetic sell their products at less than half price in China, or say the distributor sales over 2x the price in the US. Manufacturer does not sell 110v version for regular customer so that you cannot import them by yourself. The only reason they can get away with this is because the tube amps manufactured in US are so freaking overprice, proper 300B amp starts at $2000 here while in China it starts from $500 and you can get Line Magnetic 300B amp or better ones at $1000. I get that Chinese labor is much cheaper so it make sense for other brands, but for Cayin(Primaluna) and LM, I just want to point out that the difference is so large it's incredible, even imported full size speakers doesn't have this kind of problem.
A friend of mine in Malaysia bought a Line Magnetic LM508ia, a 300B + 805 SET amp for USD1450 direct from China. While in the states, dealer price is USD4000. I think the dealers take a big bite.
Warranty, Power regulations / certifications and so on bump up the price significantly. It's not an even playing field comparing a grey import with an official export version.
I agree. My Cayin integrated tube amp came with it's own Cayin el34 power tubes, Cayin 12au7 (2 pcs) 12ax7 (1pc). After years of tube rolling I have now settled with either PSVane el34 power tubes or Mullard el 34 tubes. Two PSVane 12au7 gold pin preamp tubes, and a JJ ECC803 or a PSVane 12ax7 or a Tung Sol Ecc803 gold pin depending on the kind of music I intend to listen to. I cannot invest in expensive NOS tubes as I am contented with my chosen tubes. My integrated amp is now 12 years old and performs well, no issues at all.
Thanks so much for the review, Thomas. I’ve had my cs-55a (kt88) for maybe 18 months now, and absolutely love it. I find it amazing for live acoustic recordings. I almost always run it in triode setting, and still running the stock tubes, but will swap them out for some Gold Lions soon. I’m also really intrigued with the 6550’s. Maybe I’ll raid my Christmas fund, haha. Thanks again. Scott
@@ThomasAndStereo Hi Thomas. Something I didn’t mention in my initial comment was, I’m a long time Marantz devotee, and it wasn’t until after I purchased the Cayin that I found out it was modelled around the Marantz model 8b. I’ve never been lucky enough to own one of them, but I’d be interested if you had heard them previously? Also, I’d like to pair up with the matching CS-55cd. Unfortunately they are very difficult to source here in Australia. I noticed you swapped out the original tube, but overall would you recommend the unit? Kind regards Scott
Thomas you make a very good point about it taking work to get a system to sound good. It just doesn't just apply to tube gear. I remember an owner of a local boutique audio shop telling me that many people would come back to him and tell him that the system that they bought just doesn't sound good in their homes. System matching and synergy is everything in this "hobby". Once someone moves beyond budget gear things are more complex.
Are you sure you need better sounding gear or do you need gear that's more portable? I don't get to spend enough time listening to my $2000 systems, even if I did, I can't sit still but for so long. I have much more time to spend with my wireless buds than my big $$$ (to you very low $$$) systems.
@@kohnfutner9637 To each his own. It sounds like your lifestyle fits a portable system. My lifestyle doesn't. And for me, sitting still is a luxury. :)
I have to agree totally with what you say in regards to 3D holography. Five years ago I did the plunge and bought the Cayin A-88T Mk2. That model too is switchable KT88/EL34. I Opted for the Mullard EL34 version. Every day I'm blown away how holographic and fantastic the sound is. It's impossible to have a quick session without wanting to carry on listening.
Nice, remember to let it break in. If it still sounds a bit forward, change the tubes in the front first. Keep in mind forsure this unit sounds good. We were able to get it to sound good even with a Sopra 2 with careful tube rolling. There is a lot of potential with this. Hopefully, the stock tube is good enough as I spent most of the time listening with stock tubes.
That to my ears is your best sound demo yet, I really like it. I may have to ditch my solid state for tubes. I really liked the musical paradise Dac demo also a while back. I'm starting to think i prefer tubes which seems like an expensive rabbit hole to go down.
I have the Cayin A-88T and I love it! Better than my Primaluna Prologue 3 and 5 amp/preamp combo! Your description of the CS-55A seems applicable to my A-88T.
@@ThomasAndStereo Teammate I love the Prologue 3 pre but the Prologue 5 amp is very midrangy. I will do some tube roling to see if that changes and let you know!
the CS-55A is a very good choice. you can switch power tubes from the KT88 and EL34's. I can connect to a turntable as well, and can feed any floorstanding speaker in the 150 to 200 watt/speakers, those that are in the 88db sensitivity and up.
Wow. The build quality on the Wharfedales look fantastic! In terms of the amp then high praise indeed from all your learned friends. Damn this channel is dangerous, what with you putting all these new expensive toys in front of us :)
I have had my CS55A for about a year and it still amazes me every time I turn it on. It is almost a daily player for me. I was toying with the idea of going with the Prima Luna because of the auto bias but in the year I have had this amp with the EL34s I have yet to have had to adjust the bias. I think auto bias is overrated for the cost difference. I see it as a nice to have but not necessary to have especially at the added cost difference.
I bought Cayin HA-300 Tube Headphone Amplifier and I love the Cayin quality and sound image also I used as preamp via XLR cables connect to McIntosh MC462 it produce huge sound stage warm and detailed musics output to Focal Kanta 3. Good product from Cayin with super value for money.
@@ThomasAndStereo Yes I have Cayin HA-300 and McIntosh NC462 set up now, I was suggested by a good audiophile friend that even best headphone amp can do as good as high end preamp to amp. What I did is that I used 4 bin XLR output from Cayin HA-300 ( that is the best Chinese made tube headphone amplifier " en.cayin.cn/products_info?itemid=112 " ) then use DIY cable 4 pin male XLR output from Cayin headphone then split to a two 3 pin XLRs as input to MC462 XLR input and also using MC462 XLRs output connect to my Focal Sub Utopia Be subwoofer XLR input as sub signal, and my main LR speakers are Focal Kanta 3 connect with MC462. Sources are Astell & Kern SP1000 connect to Cayin XLR input. I know these sets are not typical old school type :)) my set up is mixed headphone audiophile gears with standard HIFI audiophile gears but results of the sound is amazingly surprised. I am debating that do I need desktop preamp at all since my old hobby is headphone gears. By leverage Cayin headphone amp I do not have to spend lot to enjoy tube and solid state in both world ( Headphone & Desktop ). Please share your thought if I have to invest MC2700 or MC53 preamp to MC462 and if you do have experience with McIntosh preamp before what will be you suggestions ( tube preamp or solid state preamp ). My only sources of musics are high def digital files and I do not plan to go to old school of turn table LP gears. Thanks for you comment :)))
Dear Thomas, finally you tested a CAYIN, I have at home a A-50T that is basically the same CS-55A without the PHONO and DAC (I use separate components), I prefer the EL34 over the KT88. I have used lots of tubes, now using Genalex KT77 with Genalex 12AX7 and EH 12AU7. The KT77 has a lager plate so it is pretty similar to the KT88, it gives more puch without losing the sweetness of the EL34, but probably the new MULLARDs are the nicest sounding I have tried. I almost always use the amp in TRIODE mode because its better for imaging and sound stage, I don't hear at high sound pressure levels, I will go to ULTRA LINEAR if I want to rock the house. I drive DALI RUBICON 6 speakers 89dB sensitivity and the combination is made in heaven, needless to say the RUBICONS are 3 times more expensive than the amp. Most people don't know, but Prima Luna gear is built by CAYIN, just look inside, same components, finish, labor, design(?). I also own AUDIO RESEARCH gear, but if you take in to account what you pay and what you get, I think CAYIN is impossible to beat. The ARC sounds better (slightly) but it cost me 16K USD, 8 times the price of the CAYIN! The CAYIN CS-88A is about the same power that the CS-55A but is on a higher level, that amp is really amazing. There new model is the CS-150A that uses KT150 tubes and is 100 watts RMS, I would love to try that one!
Thanks for letting me know and wow, you even have a $16k Audio research amp to compare. Yeah, it really depends also on the speaker you have and a question of taste. Some will prefer the EL34. I might get the Cayin 845 to try soon and I am quite excited about it. I personally would love to try the CS150A but my only concern is would it sound like solid state with KT150 tubes.
@@ThomasAndStereo The 845 is an SET full class A with no NFB. A beast, I just drool with the sound of SET. They are not for everybody because they have limitations, 22 watts, but matched with the right pair of speakers you will be in heaven. Certainly not an amp for bass heads, but the sound OMG the sound is so beautiful and even though they are not cheap but I don't think you can get even near paying triple with a SET made in else where. If I had the money I would get the CAYIN M-845i.
Thomas & Stereo. Hey Thomas, the 845 is great for sensitive speakers, but for the likes of LS50 (85dB), check out 805 based tube amps like Line Magnetic 805ia (or 508ia in some countries).
I had the opportunity to test the C-55A with my Sopra 2 and here is my feedback. I can compare it to my current amplifier which is a nuprime STA AMG (D class). With EL34 tubes and for digital audio files (source is Oppo 205), i had to use the UL mode to get some relief on music, but on some traks bass were on the boomy side. So at the end, more feeling to hear a radio FM than a Hifi system (I exagerate but this way you can understand). So I switched tubes with KT88 from JJ. I could’nt imagine that it could change so deeply the result. First I had to use triode mode only which is more transparent. With UL mode it was like a DSP added on music : unnatural. It is due by the fact that with KT88 the cayin became more dynamic, more precise, more airy. Less than with the nuprime, but with a magical added texture on voice that pushed emotions to a next level. The downside is with digital files with many instruments or with bad record quality : it is less alive than with the nuprime, and results can be more or less good, while with nuprime it is more constant. Last but not least, I tried the phono entry. Just one word : FABULOUS. I never heard my vinyls like that. An unbeliveable 3D stage, with very detailed sound. Your speakers disappear and if you close your eyes you immediatly transferred to the concert hall or the recording studio. Results are far better than all my digital files, including very good SACD, even with the nuprime. The dream would be to get this result with the digital files. That’s why I didn’t keep it and continue to search the graal which should be a tube amplifier.
Thanks for sharing your experience. If you were able to get great sound with the phono, then logic would say that the amp is capable to deliver good sound with the right source. Perhaps a different source than the Oppo would do it? Did you try the onboard DAC? Marc, one of my sub was also blown away by the phono. Mr Kanta who also owns a pair of Sopra2 told me with 6550 coke bottle tubes, it sounded great.
@@ThomasAndStereo hello Thomas. No, I didn’t try the DAC of the Cayin. I have to use the Oppo to select my music which is stored on my NAS and Oppo does’nt have any USB output. I was able to compare some tracks I have on both support (CD and vinyl) from normally the same mastering : huge difference.
John here Thomas, I am a tube guy .new tubes are tight to begin. The electrons need to be awakened. And to get millions electron jumping from cathode to the anode take a 30 hour run in.
This is an excellent review! I have the Cayin A50t, which I imagine is quite similar sonically to the C-55A if the CS-55A could only use EL34s. The A50t has fantastic inner detail for an integrated amp under $2k. A very pleasant top end and a clear, focused midrange both accurately describe the A50t. Mr. Kanta's comment about the CS55A lacking in deep male vocals is also consistent with what I hear with the A50t. My feeling is that the overall bass is not as controlled, defined, and present as in some other amps, but is acceptable. I feel that this amp would excel with speakers that use a 8" or larger bass driver, but I am using it with a pair of Focal Electra 906s (which use a 6.5" bass driver) and really like the mid and upper mid clarity. Female vocals are very nice with great presence. As you note, soundstage is good, but maybe not the best I've heard. Overall, these Cayin amps are great buys and punch well above their weight. What sold me on the amp (site unseen) was Harry Weisfeld's quote: "The Cayin A50t is the best low-price amp I have ever heard, and it rivals some of the best amps in any price range." A great Stereophile review also helped. Thanks for posting this review and offering comparisons to some of the other amps on the market. Well done!
@@ThomasAndStereo Yes, I imagine that is true. The A50t doesn't have that option, but I can see how the extension and bass definition of a set of 6550s or good KT88s would help. Of course, you would miss a bit of that El34 midrange liquidity.
@@ThomasAndStereo At some point, I would like to try a set of 6CA7s in the A50t. They are compatible with amps that use El34 but are a beam tetrode similar like the KT88.
that's the downside of this hobby. need to be well heeled. Definitely need to be drawing a wage above the national average. An entry level speaker or amp or DAC starts at USD$500. That's not a small amount for a lot of folks, but it's considered entry level gear, and that's only a part of the hifi chain.
This brand ( made by Spark Audio in China ) was introduced to the American market around 2003, well before Prima Luna, and while lacking the auto bias circuitry of the latter, I much preferred them.
Sorry to say this is not accurate. Although they are located in the same city, Cayin is around 20 times bigger than Audio Space and they have no link together. Cayin is made by Cayin and Spark Audio by Spark Audio. Only common point: located in Zuhai.
Finally a reviewer explains the importance of tube rolling and the necessary time investment when getting a tube amp. Well done for that, this is just educational! If the quality of tubes in a tube amp represents may be 30-40% of the sound quality, when buying a tube amp one should be prepared to invest in tubes for a similar fraction of its price. I think that it is more cost effective to roll the preamp tubes than the power tubes. Many of the most prominent TH-cam reviewers stick to the stock tubes and I don't get it, they are just not explaining the spirit of what a tube amp is. Tube amplifiers also offers the flexibility to taylor the sound to one's liking or one's room so why not do it? I have had the Wilsenton R8 with me for the last month with stock KT88 tubes and I have some comments concerning the stock preamp tubes. The stock 6SN7 tubes (of Russian origin I believe) make the amp sound really grainy/harsh in the midrange, especially obvious on vocals and make the amp sound unrefined. I really disliked the sound of the amp at that stage and it is a bit beyond me that other reviewers liked the sound as is (they were using the stock tubes from the footage unless they tube rolled without telling us...). I replaced them with a pair of NOS RCA 6SN7GT Grey bottles from 1950 and the sound is transformed. Vocals are very good now, (which is a must for a tube amp!) and acoustic instrument sound right with a much more cohesive and refined soundstage. I am waiting for some NOS 6SL7 now to further improve the sound. Obviously at this price point the Willsenton can not possibly come with quality tubes and they are not even decent but it is possible to transform its sound from poor to good with the $100 I paid for the NOS 6SN7's. May be it could become really good/excellent with some NOS 6SL7/power tubes?
Nice video Thomas, nicely done as always. I really wish that I could try those KT 150's in my Rogue Audio Cronus Magnum 2 Integrated Amp, I bet it would sound great.... ( PLEASE try and find a different song to use when u demo something at the end of your video's)....
Thanks, the only reason I use it is because it is copyright free material else the video gets demonetized. If you can find another one for me, that would help.
Yet another very good review Thomas, particularly the sound dem: I could not really tell much difference between the two, maybe the bass was a little stronger with your Exasound, that's the trouble with only having headphones to listen with, thanks
Thanks Thomas for another great review, and although this amp is well over my budget... I am really glad that you (and others) are now reviewing some of these interesting, affordable and yet relatively unknown tube amps from China. So please do more as and when possible. Perhaps a smaller entry level Cayin or line magnetic. But I appreciate with so many others Chinese tube brands out there, in the usual hifi way it all gets confusing to sort the chaff from the wheat. Thanks again
Your welcome, it is always exciting when I discover something good for the price. I know it is expensive but everything is relative. Relative to the performance, this is very good.
Thank you Thomas. Actually the Cayin product that has caught my interest is their top ESS 9038Pro tube dac. It is built like a tank and unfortunately is expensive. I hope some day you get your hands on it. I am using Elekit 8200 TU-8200R right now.
I didn't know they had a 9038 DAC, I was going to get the iDAC-6MK2 but I finally decided against it for now because I have made too many videos on DAC recently. Maybe later.
Hi Thomas, thanks for your video, very informative as always! Any chance of you reviewing the SC-6LS MK2 premap? The Cayin integrateds have a decent selection of reviews online but this pre is criminally under-reviewed.
@@ThomasAndStereo Meanwhile I bought one to replace my solid state preamp, it was discounted to approx. 1,200$ on their official store so not a hard decision. Here goes my mini review: sound-wise it's a clear improvement paired with my primaluna phono stage and class A/B poweramp. Build quality is solid with both a better volume knob as well as a better remote than the Pro-ject Pre Box RS I had before. Talking about that remote, it was dead on arrival but Cayin were super responsive to my messages, gave me diagnostic steps to take to verify the remate was really dead, then shipped out a replacement in record time. Overall I'm very satisfied, if I had to criticise anything I'd say the remote has the usual IR issue of a too narrow arc in front of it in which it really responds to inputs, also the motirised volume knob is a little too coarse for my liking, but of course that's not a problem when operating the knob manually with your hand instead of the remote, there it operates nice and smoothly. Would still be interested in your thoughts of course in spite of now owning this item!
You are totally right Thomas. Roll tubes ! You should try the AudioLab 6000CDT .CD player. It needs a DAC. And it it is a fantastic CD player. Johnnie here in Toronto
Ah, I heard it a few weeks ago for a short period. From memory yes but let me get back to you when I get it back. (Wait for my review) I remember it did not sound like solid state and it was pretty good.
@thomasandstereo, I have today and old a-55t with Electra 926. I was considering cs55a (el34) with kanta 2 or sopra 1. I don’t see a lot of review with those both brands. Is there a reason? Is it a good mix? Anything I should be aware of ?thanks!
Thanks! I can't use the Lumin streamer because I played that song through youtube and it can't be use like a normal DAC. Unless I stream from Tidal but then it would not be a fair match.
@@ThomasAndStereo Im saying play it streaming hi res through the Cayin, just for your enjoyment. I use Metrum Acoustics, Ambre streamer through Pavane DAC into Primaluna.... Yeah, its real sweet
Two of the best sound quality cds that I've ever heard is: Bill Frissell-Blues dream With Dave Holland & Elvin jones. Not the digital remaster, but the original cd 10 years earlier is: Ry Cooder_ A Meeting at the River. This cd was done 100% analog. It list every analog phase it went through.
I have a Klipsch KSR 20s and my Tandberg 3012 just died. Would you recommend this app for those speakers? I like midrange female vocals as a priority by not exclusively. Love the cello
Thank you Thomas. You decided me to move to tubes. But would you recommend the CS55a for sopra 2 ? My retailer told me it has not enough power to drive bass properly. Another budget effort would be required to buy the CS88a. I Wanna keep the accurancy of my sopra 2 by improving the sound stage with a 3D sound filling my room more easily. So, any advice ? Should I do this budget effort ?
The CS55A is not optimal for the Sopra2. Mr Kanta has it as a second amp only using it mostly for Vocals. He has a lot of speakers so he also use it for other amps. What you really need is the Cayin KT150, sure that one sounds solid state but it is really dynamic. Wait for my review on that. Else, your other option is the CS100 and that is probably like a EVO400, I will talk about it maybe in an upcoming video.
Hi Thomas, I have the Wharfedale Elysian 2 (and love them) with a Musical Fidelity M6 500i integrated amp. Just ordered the CS-55A to experiment more with tubes. How did you like the Elysian 4 and Cayin CS-55A combo? Would you suggest different tubes or maybe the CS-88A ? I will use an external DAC (Audio GD Reference 5.32 with 4x Burr Brown PCM1704UK chips.... also a hidden gem).
I was surprised it actually was able to drive those big speakers. Of course, ideally you would want more power but it all depends on your budget. Have you also checked out my Doge 10 and R8 review? I forgot what ohm did I connect it to but I go by what the speakers suggest usually.
MissPalorte Currently in my SE84UFO I have a Rogers Canada and it sounds better than others I’ve had. I have a couple of Type 80 that I am going to use to compare (with adapter, of course) once I arrange a time for some critical listening. The stock rectifier that came with the Zen amp was kaput on delivery, and the replacement crapped out quickly.
As discussed here in the comments, it's pretty known that Cayin makes Prima Luna's amps, but do we know who makes Willsenton's amps? Looking at images of the back and internals I do think they look a lot like Cayin's work.
That would be great for consumers, if Cayin did make the Willsenton.. because they make quality kit. But I am not sure as I have seen the Willsenton amps also under the GS Audio brand name ..so not sure who really is the original maker?
@@humanitech That is true, remember seeing that too now that you mention it. It could be that a lot of old GS Audio amps got re-branded and price dumped to clear out some warehouse. Either way it would be great to know who manufactures those amps.
Not only Cayin knows to do a good layout. Definitely, it is not Cayin, because if it was Cayin, their purpose would be to do a low-cost amp and there is no sense to do 6 preamp tubes if you want to do low cost, especially when you know some of the best tube amps in the world use only 4 preamp tubes, sometimes 3. So the designer was convinced it needed 6 tubes, so it would have no sense for Cayin to make a low-cost amp with 6 input tubes. I am very familiar with most Chinese factories, having visited many and I can say for 98% it is not Cayin.
awesome channel Thomas. I know I'm late to the party but I was wondering about the 12ax7/ecc83 Telefunken you mentioned Kanta picked up, do you know which ones? thank you 🙏🏻
You should try the 6ca7/ kt77 instead of el34 straight replacement the kt77 is stronger in the bass and the top end with a more airy feel JJ electronics kt77 When you say the tube amplifiers sound like solid-state what rectification are they using solid-state I'm assuming do you know what type diode rectifier?
@@ThomasAndStereo hahaha regarding that particular tube amp you mentioned (which i believe i own) actually i realised with the stock tubes, just by changing the speaker tab from 8 ohm to 4ohms on my 8 ohm speaker, i was able to "unlock" the sound and make it sound dreamy and rounded off in a tube like fashion! With larger and more 3d sound stage. Sounds like i bought a new amp :p Not sure if you tried changing the tabs on it!
Hey guys, what are you talking about? Only primary impedance of output transformers are the same for KT88 and EL34, but NOT the main power voltage. Thinking of rolling tube is good idea, but you forgot the voltage. The KT88 are powered at 520V. If you put EL34, they will die after a few days or at best a few weeks as their peak voltage is 470V. If you put EL34 instead KT88 on this amp, they will heat A LOT as they are purpose to be powered less. ONLY amps that have a switch between KT88 and EL34 can accept both tubes because they have two secondary voltage on the power transformer and move from 450V (typical) for EL34 or 510V (typical) for KT88. You will never have good result putting a EL34 on a KT88 amp, not mentioning the tubes can crash even after a few hours if the KT88 are powered at 550V for example (if so the EL34 won't pass the day). However the reverse is possible, you can plug as much as you want KT88 on a EL34 amp. But they might lack of dynamic, but will be safe.
@@marcprili279 haha i dont know about the details. But the said particular amp above that Thomas mentioned has a switch to change between kt88/kt120 abd EL34. So thats not a problem. It does change the sound quality too (i forgot to change once) -- sounds less tubey and airy/dreamy at the wrong switch.
Great review. Thanks for bringing it to us. Amazing that this can drive the Magnepans. Love it. I'm seriously considering pairing this or the CS88A with a pair of Maggie .7i
I would not use this with the LRS, I have to push it to 1 o'clock volume to get normal listening volume. Sure it sounded good but I feel limited by the amp. Reminds me of the Reisong A12, sure it sounds good but I can't pump up the volume. Maggy with a very good solid state will sing like no tomorrow. Check out my LRS review. If you absolutely have to, maybe the CS100 but that one is brighter. CS88 will give you more grunt but you are still limited.
@@ThomasAndStereo Thanks. Yes, that makes sense. I know it's common wisdom. I'm just ready to get off the hard and analytical (B&W / SS) train for something a bit more involving and musical.
I just rewatched your friend Loic's video. I think he and I are similar in that I'm ready for the relaxing "pipe & slippers" system. If I could afford them, I think the larger Harbeths might possibly be my end game.
Thanks for the review. A lot of good stuff is coming out of China. Price is realistic and within reach too. For me I enjoy both EL34 and KT88. With EL34 a sub helps solve the softer bottom end 😂 It’s true that quite a few tube integrated amps are sounding so much like SS ones. Don’t understand it. Hope you can review the Line Magnetic LM805ia. It’s very nice. Esp the upgraded one offered by the distributor in Singapore. 😬
Great to hear from you. I like to try different tubes and find both EL34 and KT88 different but I enjoyed each for its strength. Yeah Line Magnetic is really interesting.
Thomas, a suggestion, if you can, Try out Densen amplifiers. Followed them years ago. Reviewers called their products, not just high end, but Reference class. The man behind Buchard called them "Best he EVER heard" Although that amplifier was over 30 years old.
@@ThomasAndStereo They were as I remember quite innovative, Mass product amplifiers go by statistic and filters so their stats looks nice. What Densen found out that the filters also killed the sound and trancient. So they build an amplifier with led batteries and a huge line of capacitors to give the trancients. The line side was a massive copper wire floating beyond the print to avoid any influence of the signal. Yeah their design philosophy is quite a story in it self. XD And it blew the reviewers minds and ears. The signal to noise was huge since it was batteries. No noise at all, "silent as the grave" as the reviewers put it. This is what i can recal clearly, although I have not read any of their new products.
You cannot hook a subwoofer to this unless you use REL subs. I will be making 4 to 5 more video on tube integrated amps and two of them will allow you to connect subs to it.
Thank you for doing this review; I bought this amp 6 months ago, but haven't seen more than 1-2 reviews. I learned a lot from your video, as always, so thx a lot. I use the Ares ii Dac with this amp and they suit each other perfectly. What do you think about the headphone output?
Another outstanding review. As always, most appreciated. I do have a question regarding the Cayin vs Primaluna. I am ready to take my next (first step actually) into the world of tube integrated amps and am torn between Primaluna and Cayin. I will most likely be looking at the A-100T from Cayin and either the Prologue or the EVO 300 from Primaluna. They will be connected to a pair of Zu Omen MK2 speakers, which are pretty sensitive and easy to drive. I am looking for that "luscious tubey" experience and wanted to know if you had any suggestions on which direction to go. I know both products are very well built and both have dealerships here in the US. Any advise that you would be willing to share would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Thomas and thanks for all the great videos. ✌️
Thanks, you know what, let me also try the R8 on the Zu speakers before I comment on this. Just message me in the R8 comment. I would guess Cayin is better value because they need to compete on price. I prefer prologue over Evo although evo has a cleaner sound.
Hi Thomas... I was in the market for a hegel h120 or a nad... But for the price now I can probably grab one of these. Id be using the amp to power the mains (kef R700) from a hybrid HT/hifi set up. What should I do?
The endless debate between solid State and Tubes. There is no 'correct' answer. It really depends on each person and you need to go listen to some tubes to see if it is for you.
@@ThomasAndStereo Too true. I find having a tube pre to add in to my ever growing SS collection is a nice option when things get too crisp. Still haven't climbed out of the Modi 3 rabbit hole yet either. Can't say any arrangement of components sounds better/best - they all sound different and yet great. Cheers from Denver!
unfortunately i live in Thailand and there is not a lot of interest in high end audio here to warrant buy something on spec. and then flipping it on the used market. plus the import cost here are out of sight and a lot of brands are not represented here. i have to fly to SG or KL to hear some decent stuff.
Rudy, I lived in BKK for several years, and I do recall that several (high end) shopping malls have some really good audio stores. They are not huge stores, but you can find a lot of gear. I know that one of the stores, who also post here on youtube, for instance have the Wharfedale Elysian 4. I have to admit, it is a bit harder to find all the audio and hifi stores, but they are selling some really good and high end stuff.
@@ThomasAndStereo Hi. The V1 position in a power amp is the first stage of amplification. The tube in that position will affect the amps sound. For example a Gold Lion 12ax7 will yield a relatively restrained "organic" but balanced tone vs a Tung Sol 12ax7 reissue which is much more "lively & bright" I noticed your friend put NOS in the V1 to improve the sound of the Cayin. A Gold Lion reissue, as an example (at a reasonable cost vs NOS), can be used to adjust downward an overly bright system. Whatever tube is in the V1 position "sets the stage" so to speak for the subsequent power tube amplification :eg KT88s) BTW the KT88 is a much more sophisticated and newer(1957) tube vs the el34(1949).Although is sounds like ancient history in 2020, keep in mind the late 1950's were the "golden era"/high point of American tube amps (Marantz, Scott, Fisher, MacIntosh, et al)The KT88 was the Cadillac of power tubes then - and really now with the revival of tube amps.
@@ThomasAndStereo Hi: I have an audio lab mdac dac, a Vincent hybrid pre amp and a PL Prologue 5 with KT88s -all of which are on the bright side- causing a some harshness on some material. I was able to correct this by replacing the V1 with a GL 12ax7.Setteled things right down yet still highly detailed-on a budget @ 80USD/matched pair. I really enjoy your very professional reviews Thomas. Never miss one!
Hi Thomas, can I ask your opinion. If this tube integrated amplifier can drive well Muraudio sp1 speaker? The Muraudio sp1 speaker is from Canada. Thank you.
Thomas can you please give me your brief impressions on the Cayin 55 vs the Cayin 845 tube amp? I thought the 845 video will be this week's video but it seems it's not. I have to make a purchase decision these days and I am not sure which amp I should opt for. The price difference between the two is not an issue for, they're just completely different designs (pentode PP vs SET). Unfortunately there are no any online impressions about Cayin's SETs. My speakers are the Triangle Cellos 91dB/w (8-3 ohms) in a 12×17ft room with 72-88dB listening. Thanks and sorry for annoying you :(.
Love your reviews Thomas. I plan on connecting a turntable to this unit but until I do can I connect my I-phone straight into the DAC input or use the line input?
Thanks, I don't know if the USB port will support usb from Iphone, sorry. Straight into the line input, it should work but I don't have an iphone to try.
Would the Cayin CS-55A be a better choice than the Cayin A-88T MK2 and does it have a smooth rotating volume dial or is does it rotate in incremental steps.
Thomas is it worth it to skip the KT88/EL34 Cayin amps and go to their 300b/845 amps? The 300b amp is $600 more expensive than KT88 amp, and the 845 is $1600 more expensive than KT88. Yeah the tubes are more expensive to replace but it's not a big deal. My speakers are 91dB sensitive (6 ohms) and they are relatively neutral. medium size room and not a loud listener.
@@ThomasAndStereo Thank you so much! ❤❤. I am torn between the Cayin A-845 ($2.9k) and the A-88t mkii Reference ($1.9k). 24W vs 48W. Speakers are the Triangle Cellos 91dB/w in a 12×17ft. room. 72-88dB listening.
@@mickywes3733 I had a MC-275 and a Cayin A-50T at the same time. Totally different beasts. The MC-275 has a lot more power and is less fussy with speakers. Oddly enough, the MC-275 is a lot sharper / solid state like than the Cayin. I still have the Cayin but the MC-275 is long gone. Not because I didn't like it - but that I simply couldn't justify owning it when something a tenth the price was good enough in the small room I was using it in. In a larger room or when volume was required the MC-275 was far better than the Cayin.

Thanks, sadly I don't have any experience with Rogue. Sorry.
Your welcome and glad you enjoyed it. The onboard DAC has a different sound that I explained in another comment.
I'm really impressed with the Hifi that comes from China lately. It's usually beautiful stuff and they get high scores in reviews. Love it.
Totally agree!
Don't tell some of the American high end brands. They get a bit upset!
Waiting for the tubes to warm up is not work. Tube rolling is not work. This is all fun and part and parcel in owning tube gear. Thank you for this Thomas.
True true, all part of the fun!
Big, big thanks, Thomas, for your sincere words.
I have one with KT88 tubes and loved it so much.
Congrats. Really glad you are enjoying it.
Great review, Thomas! Love the format of going to your friends, showing their spectacular systems with good B-roll footage, and getting their impressions! Very helpful way of doing things.
Thanks, it takes a lot of time but I think it is worth it.

I need some friends like yours! I don't know anyone into audio in the town I am working in currently. I thought I made a wrong turn in Albuquerque but instead I got stuck!
I was born here but I like Las Vegas and the audio scene better.
Yeah, I am really lucky for having a few audiophile friends.
Yes, I know someone with a pair of Klipsch La Scalas from the seventies, but everyone else I know seems satisfied with entry level stuff 😕
@@ThomasAndStereo Keep up the great work! We can't thank you enough
Congrats and thanks for taking the time to share this feedback.
Thanks Thomas nice review ! I can not tell ya how much I love that 3d holographic imaging thats the icing on the cake ! Why I love KEF speakers and only owned 2 of them thats sad ! Waiting on LS60s !!!! 😆
You convinced me
I was undecided and lost ....about which amp to choose
Not anymore.
I pull the trigger and my new Cayin 55 is on the way.
Thank You for sharing your knowledge
Nice, just keep in mind the Cayin tubes tend to be on the lively side so if you want it to sound smoother and warmer, get some nice NOS.
I like to imagine Thomas dancing like no one is looking when Crystal Eyes starts playing
lol.
Guess what? When he’s dancing he’s probably nude and nobody watching ..... 😜
Ryan you’re a bad... bad ! boy
Seriously, that's an excellent review Thomas. I am VERY tempted.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
Yeah, it makes a difference and thanks for sharing.
That's because you're tubes were 7 years old. Of course their going to sound so much better.🤔
Great review Thomas, more tube amps Please!
Thanks, I will review the Wilsenton R8 eventually.
seems interesting i got pulled to the more power side on sunday. i went from looking at lower power stuff to now i think im either gonna buy parasound
23+ or 21+
Cayin and Line Magnetic sell their products at less than half price in China, or say the distributor sales over 2x the price in the US. I get that Chinese labor is much cheaper so it make sense for other brands, but for Cayin(Primaluna) and LM, I just want to point out that the difference is so large it's incredible, even imported full size speakers doesn't have this kind of problem.
u right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kind regards
Scott
I have a Cayin cs 55a with original tubes. Please let me know what tubes you recommend for upgrade. Thanks.
I preferred the sound from the onboard DAC when compared to the separate.
It is leaner sounding and as a result, the soundstage is more spacious.
@@kohnfutner9637 I can relate to that. I spend more in front of my computer listening to my desktop speakers than my system in the living room.

Hi Thomas.I have heard some rumblings about this amp. Thanks for the review.
Thanks for watching!
I am surprised you find the A88T outperforming the Prologue. Now I am really curious!
@@ThomasAndStereo Teammate I love the Prologue 3 pre but the Prologue 5 amp is very midrangy. I will do some tube roling to see if that changes and let you know!

I had a Cayin/Spark 734 for 10 years and loved it. Sold it, but will get a new Cayin tube amp one day and the CS-55A is a prime candidate.
the CS-55A is a very good choice. you can switch power tubes from the KT88 and EL34's.

Well done!
Thanks! The CS55A actually can use KT88 and with tube rolling, you will get deeper male vocals. Truly a great amp and I am sure the A50t too.
I've decided I'm going to buy every product that you say sounds good. *Runs out of money in 2 weeks*
that's the downside of this hobby. need to be well heeled. Definitely need to be drawing a wage above the national average. An entry level speaker or amp or DAC starts at USD$500. That's not a small amount for a lot of folks, but it's considered entry level gear, and that's only a part of the hifi chain.
2 days for me
This brand ( made by Spark Audio in China ) was introduced to the American market around 2003, well before Prima Luna, and while lacking the auto bias circuitry of the latter, I much preferred them.
Yeah, I find the manual bias so easy to use that I don't care if it does not have auto bias.
Sorry to say this is not accurate. Although they are located in the same city, Cayin is around 20 times bigger than Audio Space and they have no link together. Cayin is made by Cayin and Spark Audio by Spark Audio. Only common point: located in Zuhai.
Glass kicks ass.
Good stuff Thomas
Thanks! You are first today!
Nice, I have some stories to tell in my R8 video and tube rolling too!
@@ThomasAndStereo Looking forward to your R8 video!
I have a 845 and 300b. I hope you get to try it one day.its very good.
I have a Cayin CS845a now and it uses both. I did tried a monobloc that uses 845 a while ago. Really musical.
@@ThomasAndStereo yeb i should have stated that it is a cayin 845/300b intergrated. Hope you review it for us. Fingers crossed. Love your reviews.
What do you find its strength and weakness is?
Agree it's a hidden gem
Nice review. I like the KT88 Sophia Electric coke bottles.
Sophia, yeah I asked if they had review samples as I wanted to talk about them, and sadly nope. I heard a lot of good things about them.
I was thinking of getting a Cayin here in Bangkok too.
Get it and Try Mullard tubes. I like mine.
Looks like a Primaluna sister company made tube amp
Thank you Thomas. Actually the Cayin product that has caught my interest is their top ESS 9038Pro tube dac. It is built like a tank and unfortunately is expensive. I hope some day you get your hands on it. I am using Elekit 8200 TU-8200R right now.
I didn't know they had a 9038 DAC, I was going to get the iDAC-6MK2 but I finally decided against it for now because I have made too many videos on DAC recently. Maybe later.
@@ThomasAndStereo I understand. Their 9038 dac is on a completely different level, a true beast so i keep my hopes up it will get you interested lol
Great review! Thanks
Thanks for watching!
Hi Thomas, thanks for your video, very informative as always! Any chance of you reviewing the SC-6LS MK2 premap? The Cayin integrateds have a decent selection of reviews online but this pre is criminally under-reviewed.
@unityoc I don't think so as I have never heard of it.
@@unityoc I would love to get my hand on one, to test with my TS A75 power amp
Great review Thomas. Your comment about Cayin’s holographic imaging...does the Willsenton R8 have similar imaging capability?
Ah, I heard it a few weeks ago for a short period. From memory yes but let me get back to you when I get it back. (Wait for my review) I remember it did not sound like solid state and it was pretty good.
@@ThomasAndStereo Looking forward to your review of the Willsenton R8!
I’m also looking forward to the Willsenton R8 review!
@thomasandstereo, I have today and old a-55t with Electra 926. I was considering cs55a (el34) with kanta 2 or sopra 1. I don’t see a lot of review with those both brands. Is there a reason? Is it a good mix? Anything I should be aware of ?thanks!
Looking forward to your R8 review , I'm almost there....
External DAC sounded better. Now hook the Lumin up to the Cayin...Great job as always Thomas.. I need to find friends with 5 listening rooms.
Thanks! I can't use the Lumin streamer because I played that song through youtube and it can't be use like a normal DAC. Unless I stream from Tidal but then it would not be a fair match.

@@ThomasAndStereo While you’re in this neighborhood, could this amp drive Ohm Walsh adequately?
Thomas, the world is ready for that Willsenton R8 =)
Telefunken preamp tubes with EH 6550/KT88.. Those NOS RCAs are crazy money.
Discovered the LM34ia takes 7581a tubes Seems like a great amp for the price imo
Yes, I have to try those too one day.
Hej Tomas, you should review LM 518 or aka 845, those amps are gold references for money, incredible in every sense!
I’ll add another way to “spend” some time with tube amps: start rolling rectifier tubes. Yes, it can make a difference.
Yes it does.
To my hearing, best rectifier tubes are either Mullard NOS (UK), or Sylvana and Bendix (US) RCA, or Marconi (Canadá)
I know I'm late to the party but I was wondering about the 12ax7/ecc83 Telefunken you mentioned Kanta picked up, do you know which ones? thank you 🙏🏻
I love your Sonus faber Toy monitors! I used to have the Toy Towers and regret selling them.
Ah, I still have the Toy towers but my friend Mr.Kanta home.
I have the Cayin A-100TMkII and i am very happy with that amp. With 80wpc it has enough power for less efficient speakers.
Nice, thanks for sharing.
You should try the 6ca7/ kt77 instead of el34 straight replacement the kt77 is stronger in the bass and the top end with a more airy feel JJ electronics kt77
When you say the tube amplifiers sound like solid-state what rectification are they using solid-state I'm assuming do you know what type diode rectifier?
Yeah, I should try KT77. Well it was using 6 - 12AU7
8 - EL34 that tube integrated amp that sounded like SS. I have to look at the specs.
With EL34 a sub helps solve the softer bottom end 😂
It’s true that quite a few tube integrated amps are sounding so much like SS ones. Don’t understand it.
Hope you can review the Line Magnetic LM805ia. It’s very nice. Esp the upgraded one offered by the distributor in Singapore. 😬

Thomas & Stereo ... you need the LM805ia sent to you for review. It’s only 42 kgs 😈
Thomas, a suggestion, if you can, Try out Densen amplifiers.
Followed them years ago. Reviewers called their products, not just high end, but Reference class.
The man behind Buchard called them "Best he EVER heard"
Although that amplifier was over 30 years old.
Oh, good to know. Thanks.
XD
And it blew the reviewers minds and ears.
The signal to noise was huge since it was batteries. No noise at all, "silent as the grave" as the reviewers put it.
This is what i can recal clearly, although I have not read any of their new products.
will these drive klipsch floor speakers r 820f speakers? also i want to hook a subwoofer too , can i do that?
You cannot hook a subwoofer to this unless you use REL subs. I will be making 4 to 5 more video on tube integrated amps and two of them will allow you to connect subs to it.
@@ThomasAndStereo Maybe you could address pairing for Ohm Walsh speakers 🔊 in the future. 😁
Thank you for doing this review; I bought this amp 6 months ago, but haven't seen more than 1-2 reviews. I learned a lot from your video, as always, so thx a lot. I use the Ares ii Dac with this amp and they suit each other perfectly. What do you think about the headphone output?

Thanks for the review ! Which amplifier do you think is better than cs-55 or primaluna one?
I think both are good, they do sound similar based on my memory BUT it was not the EVO line.
Hey Frank, what did you end up going with? And how are you liking it now on the semi long term? Thanks! I'm considering PL and Cayin as well. 🙂
So Thomas this amp and Magnapan LRS, could be the end state for most? Can you provide a list of all parts for this end state? Very interesting.
Hi Thomas, did you connect the Elysian 4 over 4 or 8 Ohm to the CS-55A? 4 Ohm should be standard, but wondering if you tried 8 Ohm?
Hi Thomas... I was in the market for a hegel h120 or a nad... But for the price now I can probably grab one of these. Id be using the amp to power the mains (kef R700) from a hybrid HT/hifi set up.
What should I do?
The endless debate between solid State and Tubes. There is no 'correct' answer. It really depends on each person and you need to go listen to some tubes to see if it is for you.
@@ThomasAndStereo Too true. I find having a tube pre to add in to my ever growing SS collection is a nice option when things get too crisp. unfortunately i live in Thailand and there is not a lot of interest in high end audio here to warrant buy something on spec. and then flipping it on the used market. plus the import cost here are out of sight and a lot of brands are not represented here. i have to fly to SG or KL to hear some decent stuff.

@@ThomasAndStereo I know you r busy, still enjoying your other reviews ;)
I think they make the Prima Luna to Dutch specs. Don't forget v1 for sound modification eg Gold Lion for smooth.
What do you mean V1 for sound mod?
@@ThomasAndStereo Hi. The V1 position in a power amp is the first stage of amplification. The tube in that position will affect the amps sound. For example a Gold Lion 12ax7 will yield a relatively restrained "organic" but balanced tone vs a Tung Sol 12ax7 reissue which is much more "lively & bright" I noticed your friend put NOS in the V1 to improve the sound of the Cayin. A Gold Lion reissue, as an example (at a reasonable cost vs NOS), can be used to adjust downward an overly bright system. Whatever tube is in the V1 position "sets the stage" so to speak for the subsequent power tube amplification :eg KT88s)
BTW the KT88 is a much more sophisticated and newer(1957) tube vs the el34(1949).Although is sounds like ancient history in 2020, keep in mind the late 1950's were the "golden era"/high point of American tube amps (Marantz, Scott, Fisher, MacIntosh, et al)The KT88 was the Cadillac of power tubes then - and really now with the revival of tube amps.

Those are high end speakers! I probably would pair it with something higher end. Wait for my Cayin 845 and cs100 review instead.
Can you send me an email at turbotan@gmail.com, let chat offline as this can go back and forth.
@@ThomasAndStereo Thanks!! I will send it now. I didn't send an email before because it was for business inquires.
Would the Cayin CS-55A be a better choice than the Cayin A-88T MK2 and does it have a smooth rotating volume dial or is does it rotate in incremental steps.
i love cayin, will definitely buy their n3pro digital audio player
Yeah, I am debating if I should review some of those products as they mentioned it to me.
@@ThomasAndStereo you should review the n3pro!
I will be talking about the 845 , cs100 and maybe cs88 in an upcoming video.
How do you think it would compare to Mcintosh 275?
I have never heard the 275 and I wonder if it has the 'older' tube sound compare to this 'newer' tube sound.
@@ThomasAndStereo that may be the answer, I think the 275 is “older” I guess that probably means more color, more bloom?
@@mickywes3733 Probably.
@@tdunster2011 would you say then, at lower volume and in a small room, the Cayin is better?
