"Jubilant applause at Dresden's Semperoper for the brilliant cast and for Nikolaus Lehnhoff's outstanding production of Rigoletto," proclaimed the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung when Željko Lucic, Diana Damrau and Juan Diego Flórez came together for a new production of Rigoletto, conducted by Fabio Luisi.
In June 2008, Giuseppe Verdi temporarily replaced Richard Strauss as the presiding genius at Dresden's Semperoper as baritone Željko Lucic, soprano Diana Damrau and tenor Juan Diego Flórez came together for a new production of Rigoletto, directed by Nikolaus Lehnhoff and conducted by Fabio Luisi, chief conductor of the Semperoper, Dresden, General Music Director-elect of the Zurich Opera, and Principal Guest Conductor of the Metropolitan Opera.

He's undeniably wonderful! I was fortunate enough to see him at the Chan Centre in Vancouver years ago. But we are also lucky today to have Michael Spyres, Lawrence Brownlee and Rollando Viallazon singing on stages throughout the world.
(And in 'my' generation -- I'm old -- it was Pavarotti.)

J.Diego Florez es un regalo para el oido. Voz transparente y suave no le impide atacar las notas agudas con total seguridad. Me encanta su modo de cantar, gozoso para él y para todos los que le escuchamos. Lo recuerdo en "La Cenerentola" en el Liceu de Barcelona que fue realmente inolvidable. Bravo, bravo.

Обычно я не жалую многих современных теноров, но Хуан Диего Флорес - это исключение. Голос у него чистый, звонкий и мужской, не смотря на высокие ноты (почти фальцет).
Так он и держит планку засчет высоких нот,если захочет,иногда не очень, узковато поёт ,и нужно искать ему мягкий тембр,а не жестский и он умеет,поэтому иногда звучит просто ,как компримарио,к сожалению)))

Su voz es melódica y va cerca a la perfección. Pero le falta fuerza. Ese extra que mueva el sentimiento.
Fa un bel po' di fatica nella avuto...non ha la struttura fisica per cantarla, ma a parte l acuto ha cantato molto bene.
It's not a matter of Florez being better or worse than Domingo or Pavarotti, but of the particular song suiting his voice better than theirs. This is the classic aria for a supple leggerio tenor, not a powerful spinto like Pavarotti. Pavarotti's la donna e mobile is not as good as Florez', but then Florez would be hopeless at Nessun Dorma.
You cant compare Florez with Domingo..One is a lyric tenore the other a drammatic..You have to compare Him with the past tnoer as Tagliavini..Schipa..Alfredo Krauss..
The fact that you reffered to Pavarotti as a "powerful spinto" just shows you haven't gotta clue. Florez is fine, but shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence as Pav.

@Leonie Pavarotti was not a lyrico-spinto eventhough he sang roles that were heavier at times, such as Pagliacci, Aida etc which actually led to him having some vocal problems, because they were to heavy for him. Pavarotti was a lyric tenor suited perfectly to the belcanto repertoire, and 2nd only to Caruso. There is nothing in the slightest bit "dramatic" about Florez. He is a leggero Tenor. So, that just shows your ignorance. Best you comment about things you actually now about next time.
In any case, Florez is a perfect example of what is wrong with Opera today, and I wasn't comparing him to Pavarotti, I actually said not to compare him to any of those great singers. So, maybe learn to read also.
Domingo is the worst of three, tenore corto without C5.
Florez voice is very nasal.
Pavarotti is good, but overrated.

Actually yes, I have the DVD and it's perfect, but you can't say the same thing for his performance in the Traviata on the MET. Don't get me wrong I love JDF voice but it's true in some Verdi's roles his voice it's seems no quite right.

Sometimes (when he sang Puccini and Verdi's works) I felt that he didn't turn on the sound completely, just like he was carrying the sound, the effect of resonance was not strong.
@@carrawayjohn219 Precisely. In roles like Alfredo, Cavaradossi, or Rodolfo it's required other types of voice. It's hard to imagine JDF singing Ingemisco from Verdi's Requiem.

Absolutely Not. This is a mosquito voice not suited for this repertoire. For this role check Mario Filippeschi or young Giuseppe di Stefano. Those were voices suited to sing this opera.
JDF es un gran tenor y muy amable persona; tuve la oportunidad de conocerlo en una cena del festival Viva Perú; pero este rol no es para su voz. Hasta él mismo se arrepintió de haberlo hecho. Así que dejen de defender como fanáticos algo que no suena bien....su voz no suena bien en Verdi; el está para Donizetti, Rossini y Bellini.... no debería cantar ni Verdi ni Puccini, aunque les moleste a algunos. Sólo tenores como Lauri Volpi o Bonisolli tenían la versatilidad de poder cantarlo todo y hacerlo bien.
Rigoletto no es para tenor ligero. que se dedique al bel canto

Non conosco la Sua età, ma quelli della mia generazione (ho 78 anni), me compreso, tendono a giudicare i cantanti di oggi avendo nella memoria quelli dal passato, ed allora tutti, o quasi, i cantanti contemporanei sembrano scarsi (beh, una gran parte lo é effettivamente), purtroppo l'era dei grandi tenori attualmente é solo un ricordo, basti pensare che oggi viene osannato un certo Grigolo!!

@@eugeniogentili1048 salve, considerato che tra me e Lei ci sono ben cinquanta anni di differenza, non posso che congratularmi per i Suoi gusti in materia di tenori, tutti quelli da Lei citati sono grandissimi e mi piacciono tutti, ciascuno nei ruoli che più sono loro congeniali; il bello è che quelli che negli anni '50 - '70 venivano considerati tenori non di primo livello (detto col massimo rispetto), oggi sarebbero delle superstar (mi limito a citare Poggi, Limarilli, Lo Forese e chissà quali altri che ora mi sfuggono). I Suoi gusti, non comuni per un giovane, mi inducono a pensare che Lei possa essere un cantante o comunque un musicista, è così oppure è un semplice (per così dire) melomane, il che considerata la Sua età mi induce all'ottimismo per il futuro della lirica.
