  • In this video we solder the vapor cone together. We attach the vapor cone to the boiler. And we build the cap plate and cap skirt assembly for the column and condenser.

5 gallon copper stills, such as this one are often called "moonshine stills." However, this distiller is primarily designed to distill water and essential. With the proper permits and safety precautions, it is capable of distilling high proof fuel alcohol and spirits such as moonshine. However, doing so is illegal without a federal fuel alcohol or distilled spirit plant permit as well as relevant state and local permits. Our distillation equipment is designed for legal uses only and the information in this video is for educational purposes only.

As a Plumber i use Tinning flux which has soldier already in the flux. If its safe on water pipes it should be fine for this.

Good video, but you missed the part where you assembled the cap skirt before soldering

Would there be any disadvantage to soldering a ring to the vapor cone that fit inside the boiler so that it's removable for easier cleaning?

Ive been interested in distilling some water and oils but I really want to attempt to make my own still. Is there anyway I can find the dimensions of your starting copper pieces? Or the starting dimensions of a 6 gallon still? Thanks in advance.

Yeah, they sell a kit, and they also mention some of it at video 1 in this series. My advice (learning the hard way) is to buy extra, cause this shit is nowhere as easy as this guy makes it look.

Why don't you solder the cap seam after you solder the cap plate ? The same with the cone ?

What the heck happened to the end of the vid? A big copper colored screen appeared &.completely blocked out what was being done with the column

It is in the process of being edited. You can see our old full series here: www.clawhammersupply.com/pages/assembly It was time to update the videos as the old ones are not HD and needed an update. Thanks!

In all these videos I've seen, I've never been impressed with the solder work. You guys would never make it as plumbers. You'd be doing it over.

  • @mattnsac

Really not that impressed with your soldering work. Pulling the heat away like you do doesnt flow it in anywhere near as clean and complete as if you left the heat on and worked faster or turn the torch down a bit and work a bit slower.
