    thank you for the information. Tell us more, if you will, about making scrapers from files, please. Yes, I am aware that you have a video that contains a bit about one specific form of scraper. I am just curious whether you use other forms for different purposes. I am a complete ham-fisted duffer by comparison, but I really enjoy learning these things and trying to get better. Thank you.

      I spoke at some length on the use of scrapers in one of the films we were working on earlier this year. This was as part of the documentation of the creation of a competition entry. The films are only accessible via Patreon at the moment though as they are unedited and will eventually be used to make a full 90 min documentary type film.

    Loved the dramatic effect! Dothrakhi files in flames killing nightwalker burrs...

    My set of newer jewellery files..., I used an old pool cue as handle material..... skinny for thinner files and chunky for the 12inch bastard

    Thanks for that, The mod you did at 21:09 did you use a Diamond file to shape the end as with the previous ones to prevent softening, or is it ok to use a Diamond burr in my Foredom making sure not to overheat?
    Look forward to seeing the progression of your apprentice, I remember being subscribed to a guy who had an Apprentice and he ended up with his own little slot, then he progressed to having his own channel where he would do his own small projects based on what he had just learned, was quite popular! anyhoo well done both of you ;@)

      I think that when I did those modifications on the needle files I simply used a bench grinder. Diamond files and the like simply weren't all that common back then.

      @@FordHallam Thanks, so I assume you had no overheating issues 👍

      @@mikealman9259 I make knives and have a belt grinder. If you are carefull, cool often in water (don‘t worry if you dry and clean the files won’t rust) and don’t wear gloves to feel the „heat“

    Why did you heat the file before hammering the handle in place ???

    • @FordHallam
      @FordHallam  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      that way the tang of the file burns its way into the wood and sits deep and secure.

    why not modify the handle rather than a permanent change to the file?

      You could try that option, I'd be interested to see how you'd do it and how it functions. Let me know :-)
