  • Horse Racing has issues and we can never seem to make enough progress. On this episode of Past The Wire TV we put together a panel of experts who have the passion and experience to identify and weigh in on some key points.
    Not only to we get to the heart of these matters we offer our solutions. You may agree or disagree and we’d love to hear all your thoughts. Help us help keep this dialogue going and get people including HISA and racetrack managers and shot callers listening. That would be a great first step.
    What is racing wasting time on?
    What would you do given all the power?
    How do we grow the sport?
    All this and a lot more on this episode of Past The Wire TV

    When A Horse Broke Down On Any Race Track, The First Thing That Comes To Mind Isn’t The Race Track Since Many Many Many Other Horses Ran On The Very Same Race Track And Wasn’t Injured, Immediately My Focus Is On The Horse And It’s Connections/Trainer/Groom/ Veterinarian, The Possibility Of Hiding The Injury Of The Horse By Masking The Injury Of The Horse, And With So Many Horses Running On The Very Same Track Without Getting Injured, The Horse And It’s Connections Needs To Be Deeply Examined,,,,🏆🇺🇸🇯🇲 Mr. KeenObserVatioN 🇯🇲🇺🇸🏆

    Can anyone tell me why in 2023 I am FORCED to accept the post time favorite, in the event of a LATE scratch, weather I want it or not???? Also does anyone have a problem with Baffert having 4out of the 5 entrants in a race?

    • @PastTheWireTV
      @PastTheWireTV  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is one of the worst rules in racing for the bettor in my opinion. I hate it and it has burnt me many times. I'd sooner take a refund on the ticket. I used to have an issue with any trainer having multiple uncoupled entries. I've kind of changed my opinion to it is what it is and with the small fields, and owners wanting who they want, it is not likely to change.

    Mr. Gotmer, I have been advocating a similar idea for years. Every race should get a win-pool subsidy equal to the purse. So, instead of a $20,000 purse, we'd have a S10K purse with a $10K addition to the win pool. In the ear of simulcasting, word would spread like wildfire. If a small track did this, it could do major-track pools. Every race on the card. And at the larger tracks, come on, do we really need maiden races with $100,000 purses? With casino slot-machine subsidies, the pools shall remain more than adequate to support the owners and trainers.

    1:20:18. Best comments of the show. Optimal takeout. You need to properly price the product before trying to sell horseracing.

    1:09:20. More importantly, why doesn't New York Racing lower takeout? They get millions a week in slot money.

  • @anthonya2349
    @anthonya2349 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The biggest issue right now which also makes the win seeding a moot point is robotic wagering. Allowing these big syndicates to have a computer calculate the pools and place thousands of wagers in at the last second should be illegal. All the value is sucked out of every race, betting an exacta paying $26 and watching the race only to find out it only returned $14-$16 dollars is criminal. So either you knock out the syndicates or don't offer them a rebate. Will it ever happen? Whatever the betting figures that come out they are not on the rise without it, so they put themselves in a very bad situation relying on it.

    57:24. What Julian said is wrong.
    Matt Haggerty july 2020...Rates for win, place, and show wagers for colonial downs will be raked this year at 18 percent, up from 16 percent during last year’s meet. Takeout rates for all exotic bets will be 22 percent, up from 20 percent last year. In addition, a pick five with a takeout of 12 percent has been eliminated, the officials said.

    People want big payouts. You are not going to get big payouts betting to win. Especially today when a horse is 2 to 1 going into the gate than goes odd at 6 to 5. Plus horseplayers like to spend the majority of the day at the track. They aren't going to bet half their wad on one horse. Just my thoughts .

    • @PastTheWireTV
      @PastTheWireTV  ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct but they also like to win, at least most of them do or should. Yet so many lose, we’ll over 90% or so thy say. Maybe that type of betting is contributory to that.

      @Horseracingtip ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree. That's why the 50-cent minimum has been terrible for horseplayers.

      Field sizes were talked about quite a lot -- Horse shortage through lack of broodmares and too many races. Re: over racing, that came up in the context that some of the doping problems comes from economic pressures to run horses -- which could be alleviated if purses were much higher. It's true I don't think today's horses are bred to withstand too much racing, but maybe that encourages the medication.
