Right! but he starts singing non-stop all the way through at 1:26, all in one breath, 25 seconds long. I think he makes it look so easy, lost on most listeners, the difficulty of doing that.
Unbelievable, isn't it? How he holds that note for so long with such a beautiful flowing and effortless tone. Nash wrote and composed the song and produced it himself, and how about that chord progression, so original and intersting, how did he think of that?
@@louiseroman1145 I know! It's easy to fake in the studio with that lush arrangement and multiple takes, but he didn't need to fake it. He had serious breath control! GREAT performance! I had never seen this one before.
Everybody's talking about how he holds "that note" for around 25 seconds -- but it's not just one note, it's a progression of (at least by my count) five notes. That makes it even tougher than just holding one single note for that long. It's pretty amazing.
I have been listening to this for almost 50 years and have never failed to be thrilled by the beauty of his voice. The lyrics and the thoughts behind them are beautiful too. He seemed a beautiful soul.
Johnny Nash was born in Houston, Texas on August 19, 1940. He is an American reggae and pop music singer-songwriter, best known in the US for his 1972 hit, "I Can See Clearly Now". He was one of the first non-Jamaican singers to record reggae music in Kingston, Jamaica. On August 19, 2020, Johnny Nash celebrated his 80th birthday. UPDATE: Crossover reggae-pop star Johnny Nash passed away on Tuesday October 6, 2020. The news was announced by his son, Johnny Nash Jr., who told the Associated Press that the elder Nash died of natural causes at his home in Houston, Texas. The singer-songwriter, actor, producer, and record label executive was 80 years old.
I was a young boy still at school, when I first heard this guy, Stir it up was the track, I realised after that song, he was worth listening to, and the rest as we know it, is history, what a great singer,
Just heard on TV Johnny Nash passed away today. 10-14-2020. Another classic singer we have lost. May He Rest In Peace. Will keep his family in my prayers.
Many years ago my younger brother shared this song with me when he was dealing with alcohol , it helped him , , , now it helps when I think about my little brother ,
Holy crap!! 24 seconds. That's how long he went without taking a breath. Amazing! 1:26. Love the horn progression of the orchestra during this part also. It deftly captures the suspended in time feel of that one gets listening to it.

Thank you Johnny Nash for writing and singing one of the most beautiful songs of all time. I have been blessed to Feel this song many times over the decades.
Great music I love this song 2 this very day. Great performance and the song itself is very beautiful this song is my mother's favorite song before she passed away. Johnny Nash will be surely missed his song and his beautiful voice will never be forgotten. R.I.P. Johnny Nash we all miss you and your beautiful smile and your song I can see Clearly Now.
Had eye surgery 2 days ago and woke up today seeing. This song came to mind. Im so thankful for the a beautiful voice God gave Johnny Nash! (I've listened to several recordings he did of this song, this one is my favorite!) ❤
sounds to me like they are playing the song too slow and I'm sitting here praying Johnny can hold the impossible 20 second note but he gets the job done. wonder if he ever took the stage afraid of not being able to hold that note. Interesting, no backup singers with that large orchestra playing for him. such a great voice, you really don't miss the amazing three part harmonies. Like some of the embellishments the orchestra plays in the arrangement. Thanks for this post and the great info on Johnny!
He always brought me an emotional happiness whenever listening to his song since long time ago , may be more than 50 years back. Currently I realized that he passed away few year ago and very very sorry to hear that...We all miss him.
The live orchestra adds amazing depth to this recording of Johnny Nash singing one of my favourite songs "I Can See Clearly Now". Thanks for sharing this.

Outstanding. A great performance of a true classic.
And the chord progression at 1:30 and the way he can do it all one one breath is truly amazing.

He made it look effortless too.
He transitions those notes so seamlessly as well, up and down.
Wrong. It's more difficult to hold a single note (without distortion), like in lovely day by Bill Withers.
There is a specific muscular tension for every note, and it's harder to keep a single note, when you change the tone you're able to "rest" a little
@@gustavoqzlimaI wasn't talking about muscular tension. I was talking about HITTING THE NOTES.
RIP Johnny, the singer of one of the most uplifting songs ever sung ❤
Such an ordinary man with the voice of an angel ! so modest, yet so talented, His family must have been devastated when he left them
I have been listening to this for almost 50 years and have never failed to be thrilled by the beauty of his voice. The lyrics and the thoughts behind them are beautiful too. He seemed a beautiful soul.
