The foil wrap trick literally saved my life. I had a copied key that couldn’t be used to power the engine. By wrapping the tin foil and glueing my old key on it, I got the car started.

How many different types of transponders are there?

Thanks Mitch! That was so informative and I learned a lot. I've been eying some remote flip-keys and I've been worried about the transponder: I have an original key but I'd like a spare, is there any way I can get a transponder, have someone copy the code into the new one, and therefore have two keys that will work properly?
My second question is how would I figure out what 'type' of chip I have? [I have an 05 Honda Accord EX]
Thanks for your video and support!

nice showing how foil block RF signal, however what about showing the opposite?. How to double or troupple extend RF communication range between key and car. That will help in push-button-start conversion project with no bypass preferral.

My friend's 98 Accord LX, 110K, with original key, stalls intermittently. Sometimes it runs perfectly for weeks. Can the immobilizer fail when running normally, like on a freeway? I have replaced distributer. It may be the ignition switch. Thanks!

nice video, how does the car dealer program a new empty transponder? the transponder isn't hooked up to any cables or anything.. does the signal from the car just look for an empty transponder to store its signal to ?

What is the possibility that the chip in your key can get changed ??? can that be corrected??? without a big expense???

Technically, the aluminum foil creates a Faraday cage around the RF retroreflector in your key. This Faraday cage dampens the illuminating radio burst, generated by the car, enough that an echo is never produced, or is too weak to detect. The transponder key has no battery, and is therefore a passive device that must be phantom powered.

Hi, I think one problem is that you call it a Transponder Key, I and all my friends have always called it a Key with Immobiliser? Or are they different things?

Awesome! I definitely have a transponder key. I'm having a slight problem with the key/car not turning over. It sounded like the key is wrapped up in tin foil and blocking the signal the same how you did the test on the subu. However, the key was dropped on the ground by accident a few months ago. So now the key is opened up unless I close it by holding it with my fingers/hand. I can still use the key for central locking and turning the alarm on with no issues but just can't start the car.
    Any suggestions?
I would kindly appreciate your help. Thanks

If a customer does not what a transponder key is, why ask the customer if he has one?
