- I review the Nippon NS Pro 950 GH Neo shaft, SR flex. I compare it to the original and still very popular 905 GH. The Neo is supposed to increase launch and spin. Watch to find out the results!

I would think a firmer tip would result in a lower flight and less spin but your comparison proves Nippon right especially when the Neo was an SR flex compared to the 950gh in R flex.
It boggles my mind, too Brian. But I'm not surprised that the crew at Nippon figured out how to do it! Great shafts, can't go wrong with either the original or the Neo.
@@fit2yougolf926 My guess is that overall the shaft is more flexible but with a firmer tip, like Golfworks Kuro Kage black iron shaft.
@@brianwolfe2604 I did a little digging and it seems that the stiffer mid section helps the tip to be more active, leading to the higher launch and spin. I think it is that mid shaft stiffness that changes the feel for me compared to the original.
Unfortunate that one shaft was "regular" and the other was "stiff-regular". That alone could account for the difference in feel. It's not really a valid test for "feel" if they are not both of the same stiffness and weight.
I play the Nippon 950gh in regular and love them. Great feel. Loads beautifully. Callaway, though, offers the Neo but not the GH. Would have liked to have heard your opinion on comparative feel in a true apples-apples test. Any chance Nippon would send you a regular flex in both?
I agree, the results are affexted by the flax difference. But I thought it was interesting that I got higher launch with the Neo despite being stiffer.
I purchase these shafts myself, I wish Nippon would send them to me for free! I love the NS Pro line and play them in two of my iron sets.

Q ? Is the Neo primarily made for the larger game improvement clubheads whereas the original 950GH a better shaft for blade style player type clubheads ? I as because I’m ordering a blended set of irons Srixon zx7 zx5 and zx4. Srixon only offers the Neo. Will it work well in the zzz 7 and 5 clubheads ?
My understanding is that the Neo is designed for modern irons, so I don't see why they wouldn't work well with the Srixon irons. I used them with a similar Forged head and liked the combination very much. They are a great shaft!
Hi looking for some advice. Male, 9 handicap, 82 mph swing with 7i. Typically 4 down and 3 from inside. Currently have titleist Ap3 with Shimada tour lite stiff shafts, however spin with 7i at 33 degrees static loft is only 4800? Would any of the nippon shafts help?
I would think that either would help, but never know without trying. What is your launch angle with the 7 iron? With that angle of attack I would expect it to be be pretty good... Just trying to understand the low spin. While my results showed that the Neo increased launch and spin over the original, I just had another golfer try both shafts and he saw no difference between them, and not much difference from his gamers. So the other variables to consider are the type of iron head, weight and bend profile of the shaft, and the choice of golf ball. @@IMon503 that's a bit low (depending on your swing speed, but for example that's around the dynamic loft of PGA tour player with a 6 iron). I wonder if you might test other irons first to see if a different design helps with spin. A shaft can only add (or subtract) so much.
Very nice review, what do you think of the NS Pro 1050GH regular flex (106 grams)? I never tried nippon shafts, but I hear very good things about them, great channel by the way.
Thanks! I love the 1050GH shafts and recently installed them in the STi2 irons I built. Same feel as the 950GH, just a little heavier. They are getting harder to find though.
@@fit2yougolf926 I can get 5 shafts for 40 dollars on ebay from the UK. I do want to try a lighter shaft like the Zelos 77 grams, but I'm currently trying all shafts to see what suits me best.
What was the loft on your Maltby 7-iron? I just turned 80, have a good swing for my age. I play, a very traditional thin forged blade by Chicago Classics (Bob Evans design similar to a Mizuno MP33) with a 35.5 degree loft on the 7-iron. The shaft is a Precision Rifle Lite steel, stiff flex. Not sure what the weight of these is. In a recent fitting test, my 7-iron had 74.8 club speed, 100.6 ball speed, smash factor 1.34, launch angle 22.9, height 81, landing angle 46.3, spin 5370, carry 137.3, total 146.4. My question is, with that kind of weak lofted club and those results, would a lighter shaft like the GH Neo or the GH produce better distance or too much height and spin? I don't want my shots to "balloon" but I do want to get the ball to stop on the green on approach shots and par 3s. Am also looking for higher spin balls, not low spin distance balls.
John the loft on the iron in this test was 31 I believe. Currently I am playing a 36 degree 7 iron with a combination set of 950 GH and neos. I love them both.
Those are good numbers. The Neo might help give a tad more launch and spin. Could be worth a try!
how is the feel of the 950 neo vs the modus 105 at impact? is the 950 tip a lot softer vs the modus 105? or they feel just the same, just lighter?
They are somewhat different animals. I certainly notice the weight difference (10 grams in R flex). A waggle test reveals a similar feeling because the butt stiffness is similar. But the Modus 105 stays stiffer, including the tip section. So the Neo feels "smoother" to me, something I prefer. But the Modus 105 is a great option, perhaps for someone who loads the shaft a bit more.
Hi there, I just bought the Sti2s with the Maltby Pro Series graphite shafts (regular) online today but am now wondering if I should’ve gotten these. What shaft would you prefer between the Nippon 950gh model and the Maltby Pro Series?
While I like them both, the Nippon is one of my favorites. I have clubs with the Maltby shafts and really like the feel and performance. My favorite graphite shaft is the UST Recoil.

Have you tried putting the Ns pro Neo on a wedge? What were the results?
No, I haven't. Not a bad idea as an experiment. The only downside that comes to mind is that it probably would increase launch angle, and most of us would benefit from lower launched wedges. Some extra spin would be the upside.
Great video, I got fitted with Pxg 2011with nippon pro 950 stiff liked them a lot ,I’m usually reg ,I’m 61 swing speed of 80 ,but then I got mizuno 921 forged with steel fibre reg ,they are very smooth but they are not nippon , they are sending me a set of sub 70 699 pro with KBS max 95 steel reg .I’ve not tried them but they think those will be ok

I haven't hit the sub 70 irons but they look great and believe I saw a positive review recently (TXG maybe?). I'm curious to hear how the KBS feel to you. They feel very different to me, and I much prefer the Nippon. Perhaps it's the way I load the shaft... KBS seems to want a more aggressive swing. But they are a quality shaft for sure. The Neo would feel even softer in comparison to the NS Pro original and the KBS, I believe. Post back when you've had a chance to hit the new clubs.

What shaft is comparable to the NS Pro 1150 GH?
The Modus tour 105 is similar to the 1150, but probably needs a bit more effort to load.
Were you swinging the R or S version of the Neo?
The SR, only available in 355 taper tip. Sits between R and S
numbers were better with the neo.....but...ill stay with the old shaft.... lol lol lol
Ha! I know...still thinking about switching. But there is just something I like better about the feel of the old version, and it is cheaper!
What about the 1150gh?
The 1150 is really a different animal. Not just weight, but bend profile if I'm not mistaken. That's not to say that it isn't a good shaft, but it takes more speed and aggressive transition to load in my experience.

I would have to agree with you on that. I have heard it pronounced differently, but the brand ambassadors use the pronunciation you indicated.
