👉ओ ३ म् शन्नो मित्रः शं वरुणः शन्नो भवत्वय॒मा । शन्न॒ इन्द्रो बृहस्पतिः शन्नो विष्णुरुरुक्रमः ॥ नमो ब्रह्मणे नमस्ते वायो त्वमेव प्रत्यक्षं ब्रह्मासि । त्वामेव प्रत्यक्षं ब्रह्म वदिष्यामि ऋतं वदिष्यामि सत्यं वदिष्यामि तन्माम॑वतु तद्वक्तारमवतु । अवतु माम् अवतु वक्तारम् । ओ ३ म् शान्तिश्शान्तिश्शान्तिः ॥१ ॥
👉अर्थ- ( ओ ३ म् ) यह ओंकार शब्द परमेश्वर का सर्वोत्तम नाम है , क्योंकि इसमें जो अ , उ और म् तीन अक्षर मिलकर एक ( ओ ३ म् ) समुदाय हुआ है , इस एक नाम से परमेश्वर के बहुत नाम आते हैं जैसे - अकार से विराट , अग्नि और विश्वादि । उकार से हिरण्यगर्भ , वायु और तैजसादि । मकार से ईश्वर , आदित्य और प्राज्ञादि नामों का वाचक और ग्राहक है । उसका ऐसा ही वेदादि सत्यशास्त्रों में स्पष्ट व्याख्यान किया है कि प्रकरणानुकूल ये सब नाम परमेश्वर ही के हैं ।
योग दर्शन मे भी इसका उल्लेख है -|
👉तस्य वाचकः प्रणवः ॥२७ ||

👉ओं खम्ब्रह्म ॥१ ॥ यजुः अ ० ४० । मं ० १७
देखिए वेदों में ऐसे - ऐसे प्रकरणों में ' ओम् ' आदि परमेश्वर के नाम हैं ।
👉 ओमित्येतदक्षरमुद्गीथमुपासीत ॥ २॥ -छान्दोग्य उपनिषत् ।
👉 ओमित्येतदक्षरमिदः सर्वं तस्योपव्याख्यानम् ॥ ३॥ - माण्डूक्य ।
👉सर्वे वेदा यत्पदमामनन्ति तपांसि सर्वाणि च यद्वदन्ति । यदिच्छन्तो ब्रह्मचर्यं चरन्ति तत्ते पदं संग्रहेण ब्रवीम्योमित्येतत् ॥ ४ ॥ -कठोपनिषत् , वल्ली २। मं ० १५ ॥
👉प्रशासितारं सर्वेषामणीयांसमणोरपि । रुक्माभं स्वप्नधीगम्यं विद्यात्तं पुरुषं परम् ॥५ ॥ एतमग्नि वदन्त्येके मनुमन्ये प्रजापतिम् । इन्द्रमेके परे प्राणमपरे ब्रह्म शाश्वतम् ॥६ ॥ -मनुस्मृति अध्याय १२ । श्लोक १२२,१२३ ।
👉 स ब्रह्मा स विष्णुः स रुद्रस्स शिवस्सोऽक्षरस्स परमः स्वराट् । स इन्द्रस्स कालाग्निस्स चन्द्रमाः ॥ ७ ॥ -कैवल्य उपनिषत् ।
👉अर्थ - यहाँ इन प्रमाणों के लिखने में तात्पर्य यही है कि जो ऐसे - ऐसे प्रमाणों में ओङ्कारादि नामों से परमात्मा का ग्रहण होता है लिख आये तथा परमेश्वर का कोई भी नाम अनर्थक नहीं , जैसे लोक में दरिद्री आदि के धनपति आदि नाम होते हैं । इससे यह सिद्ध हुआ कि कहीं गौणिक , कहीं कार्मिक और कहीं स्वाभाविक अर्थों के वाचक हैं । ' ओम् ' आदि नाम सार्थक हैं - जैसे ( ओं खं ० ) ' अवतीत्योम् , आकाशमिव व्यापकत्वात् खम् , सर्वेभ्यो बृहत्वाद् ब्रह्म ' रक्षा करने से ( ओम् ) , आकाशवत् व्यापक होने से ( खम् ) , सब से बड़ा होने से ईश्वर का नाम ( ब्रह्म ) है ॥१ ॥ ( ओ ३ म् ) जिसका नाम है और जो कभी नष्ट नहीं होता , उसी की उपासना करनी योग्य है , अन्य की नहीं ॥ २ ॥ ( ओमित्येत ० ) सब वेदादि शास्त्रों में परमेश्वर का प्रधान और निज नाम ' ओ ३ म् ' को कहा है , अन्य सब गौणिक नाम हैं ॥ ३ ॥ ( सर्वे वेदा ० ) क्योंकि सब वेद सब धर्मानुष्ठानरूप तपश्चरण जिसका कथन और मान्य करते और जिसकी प्राप्ति की इच्छा करके ब्रह्मचर्याश्रम करते हैं , उसका नाम ' ओ ३ म् ' है ॥ ४ ॥ ( प्रशासिता ० ) जो सब को शिक्षा देनेहारा , सूक्ष्म से सूक्ष्म , स्वप्रकाशस्वरूप , समाधिस्थ बुद्धि से जानने योग्य है , उसको परम पुरुष जानना चाहिए ॥ ५ ॥
और स्वप्रकाश होने से ' अग्नि ' विज्ञानस्वरूप होने से ' मनु ' और सब का पालन करने से ' प्रजापति ' और परमैश्वर्यवान् होने से ' इन्द्र ' सब का जीवनमूल होने ' प्राण ' और निरन्तर व्यापक होने से परमेश्वर का नाम ' ब्रह्म ' है ॥ ६ ॥
( स ब्रह्मा स विष्णुः ० ) सब जगत् के बनाने से ' ब्रह्मा ' , सर्वत्र व्यापक होने से ' विष्णु ' , दुष्टों को दण्ड देके रुलाने से ' रुद्र ' , मङ्गलमय और सब का कल्याणकर्ता होने से ' शिव ' , ' यः सर्वमश्नुते न क्षरति न विनश्यति तदक्षरम् ' ' यः स्वयं राजते स स्वराट् ' ' योऽग्निरिव काल : कलयिता प्रलयकर्ता से कालाग्निरीश्वरः ' ( अक्षर ) जो सर्वत्र व्याप्त अविनाशी , ( स्वराट् ) स्वयं प्रकाशस्वरूप और ( कालाग्नि ० ) प्रलय में सब का काल और काल का भी काल है , इसलिए परमेश्वर का नाम ' कालाग्नि ' है ॥ ७ ॥
