Don't mess with a stock aod transmission people. If you're running any power or gears go with a Gear star transmission. I put one in 2 years ago in my 74 Grand Torino that I have owned for 40 years. I used to drag race it with a fmx 3-speed. The $6,000 investment for that transmission was the best mod I've ever done next to 4:30 gears. Now I have an overdrive. She's a beast on the freeway. And with the 3000 stall she launches hard out of the hole. Grant I have a built 351 Windsor naturally aspirated with a sizable cam . But dang, that transmission was the final piece of the puzzle. All internals modified more like an fmx style setup but with Billet parts. The manual shift kit they put in her is insane . They said that some people complain shifts too hard but it makes me warm and fuzzy . Couldn't be happier. I smile every time I drive her.
My combo was very similar, but I went with 2800-3000 stall. I knew you would like it. I still ended up 5spd swapping mine though.

B/M Converter are Cr.p .... the best Converter for the AOD so far, is the TCI 432800 ..with done AOD, 331cu, 373 rear ... that converter works great ...92 Hatchback ..with like 330WHP

Nice! Glad that worked out for you. With the shift kit, you should be able to make it shift 2-3 properly w/o the shuffle. Sometimes you still need to play with the governor valving (on the output shaft)

Very cool, knew it would make a difference, resetting the base idle up a little, sounds slightly low for a
cammed AOD, with the torque converter and occational cam bucking base idle bump up should fix it.
Problems solved! Car is definitely no slouch Brother!

I have an 89 GT and had a 303cam and Trick flow 170 aluminum heads, headers and flow masters installed. I have an AOD too and stock rear gears in a Convertible GT . Also stock HO intake manifold.
It sounds great! … What gears do you think I should I install in the rear? … I still want to be able to travel with it on the freeway but quicker from the take off.
Or do you think I should install the 2500 stall converter first?

Surprise you didn't install a hammer shifter since you did the other trans stuff to it. So the shift kit does the job, good to know. I'm slowly building my 94, it has an AODE.
Any of the ratchet shifters suck, they all get sloppy... Go ahead and swap that aode for a 4R70W...
I need to do a shift kit on my 4r70w. She forgets shes a transmission sometimes. Lol
I didn’t have to wait on the shift in my mark 7. I would go first to drive than back to first and it would shift hard into second then up to drive to hit third. I never had to wait for the shift.
Well, I really think the 2400 by b&m is a waste of time and money. Should have just spent a little more money and got a 3000 stall with lockup for $750.
