It sounds so close because the Ym2612 (OPN2) sound chip that the genesis used is a sister chip to the Ym2608 (OPNA) chip used on the PC98 computer The main difference between the two is what sound channels each chip has access to. For example the “High end” OPNA has a ADPCM channel, the OPN2 has a more standard PCM instead
Do you know good resources when it comes to understanding sound design with these chips ? (ym2612 and ym2608) because i'm not too knowledgeable about fm synthesis so producing the sonorities i want with them is tricky
There probably are good resources out there that you could find; however I couldn't help you find them, unfortunately. All of my stuff I've produced was just kind of "oh hey, this sounds good, I'll do that". One piece of advice I will give is downloading raw instrument files from Sega Genesis games (you can easily find .vgms online and convert them into YM2612 files through the Genny VST). Those help give you an instrument baseline so you don't have to make everything from scratch. I do a similar thing for my PC-98 covers with the instruments from Touhou 4 and 5, though it's a bit more complicated.
@@NotQuiteHere I see, would be nice if there was a database of the instrument presets from the touhou pc98 games I right now am trying to learn bamboo tracker but as I'm mostly used to daws, not trackers starting out is a bit slow as i don't find bamboo tracker tutorials, i thought about checking deflemask to learn since the ym2612 works similarly to the 2608 but in fact deflemask was made paid and wasn't open source like i thought it was
@@SeleDreams deflemask used to be free, but it recently was made to cost money, which is a decision i do not agree with. in terms of bambootracker, if you want to learn the way the tracker is laid out, i would honestly suggest watching a tutorial on famitracker, in terms of program layout the two are very similar.
@@NotQuiteHere I see, thanks since I bought some times ago the FMDrive vst i'm thinking of watching tutorials on it since it should help to learn sound design for this type of synth which will port over easily to the ym2608
Damn she wasn't lying. That strawberry really had a crisis.
my strawberry become crazy after this
Okazaki-san when the strawberry went into crisis
the first thing i feel after being kicked out of colleg for letting the plutonium exposed to some strawberry trees
Nice PC-98 Touhou Style Sega Genesis cover of the song, and it sounds super close and faithful to the original song!😄🤩😎👌

@@SeleDreams cross compatibility between ym2612 and ym2608 is pretty good. .tfi and other similar file types read perfectly fine across. both chips.
Did you use filter on the gameplay?
It's a filter on the entire video in my editor. I've since moved away from using it though.
