- I was challenged to do a catch clean and cook video of a freshwater drum, what we in Michigan also call a sheepshead, some down south call it a gasper goo.....whatever you want to call it, I considered it to be a trash fish, until I was challenged to eat one!
We were very surprised at the taste and texture of this fish, it reminded me of a shrimp or lobster texture, my son said calamari.
If you are like me and never tried one....try it once and see for yourself, I think you will like it.....we did!

I had always wondered why we didn't eat those. Thanks for delving into it and giving us your opinion.
Redge thanks, you know what they say about opinions.....lol
Great video! I knew you'd like it, now smoke some, oily fish are great smoked. Smoke with alder or apple wood.
We will for sure John!
Wow! You made it look easy and yummy! Awesome video my dear brother! I appreciate you! BABAAM!!
Easy Peasy......thanks bud

It can't hurt to try one! Thanks
Like the way you clean em and cook em my friend. Nice job. I have heard that fish called a lot of different things on different videos.
Wow! I'm surprised!
We were too Jeri.
Awesome! Told ya it tastes good 👍
You were right
I'm guessing that it doesn't taste like chicken. Looks delicious. Glad it's almost lunch time. 👍🍻
Not exactly, more like a lobster texture though.
LOL...... The ole drummer.... I've never tried them and I doubt I ever will....LOL
What if I challenged you and said pretty please? LOL
@@haulinashoutdoors2675 I declined in advance......LOL
We have ate them for years. We fish a clear water river and that size you cleaned and a 1lb bigger are good. The bigger ones are strong and no matter how much you clean them or soak them they are not edible unless you have a different palate than mine. The big ones the meat turns gray.
Yeah Ive heard to just keep the small ones Thanks Charley
You never know till you try 😂
Exactly Nick!
I think a lot of people have an opinion on a fish’s taste but have never tried them. I’ve had gar and thought it was excellent and have heard people call them a trash fish. I used to fish with a guy that has since passed on that wouldn’t eat a flathead. He thought channel cat was better eating so you guess it who took all the flathead we caught!!!!!
Once you remove the red meat and fat they are versatile as heck Grilled, blackened, boiled ( faux seafood) chowders and soups. They have the consistency of chicken breast.
I’m gonna have to try blackened that sounds good! Thanks
Those looked like strips not fillets. Didn't look half bad though.
They do look small in the video, actually smaller than they really were. Thanks, hope you are doing well Wayne
