- In highrise building design, important secondary moments and additional story drifts can be developed in the lateral-force-resisting system by P-delta effects. P-delta effects are the result of the axial load P in a column being moved laterally by horizontal displacements, thereby causing additional secondary column and girder moments.
In this video, I will explain about:
P-delta concept
The geometric stiffness
The stability coefficient
The intent of Section 12.8.7 in ASCE-7 is to determine whether P-delta effects are significant, and if so, to modify the strength and stiffness of the structure to account for such effects.
Key words:
seismic design of structures
earthquake engineering
earthquakes
dynamic analysis
Non-linear static analysis
Pushover analysis
Response Spectrum
Non linear dynamic analysis
SKKU
Great explanation! Hope to hear more of your lessons Sir! Thank you!
May Allah bless you and yours efforts
Great explanation, thanks
Thank you very much
thanks Dr. Mohamed. I have a question please, V1y is less than V10, so why in the first Approach we have to multiply the forces by 1/(1-theta), and that is mean we increase the forces to tack care of the effect of p-delta?
Is it applicable for wind load?
Can you share the pdf notes if possible..
