It's funny, these are the two devices I own. The 280v gets more play with harder-to-emulate stuff like Yoshi's Island, which the v90 can't really do. I also got a screen protector so I can throw it in my pocket. But the v90 is just so portable, and if it breaks, who cares? It was like five bucks. I like them as a team.
If that Powkiddy had the same quality as the anbernic, that would be perfect for me. Since it doesn't though I'm more interested in getting the anbernic, even though the price isn't to my liking. But I agree I love the size of these both. Even though both powkiddy and anbernic have more powerful devices, I really like how small and pocketable these are.
Yeah, V90 is my standard for pre-ps1 games. I use my RG350 for ps1 games. The RG350 is obviously the better device. But the V90 is by far the best bang for your buck. I got the thing for like $30-something, while the RG350 is more than double the price. Awesome, cute device for a great price.
I've got both loaded with cfw. The Anbernic is the winner in my book. I mainly play rom hacks and translations on the older Nintendo consoles. Regarding your daughter's save file; I believe it's possible to preserve it by backing up the .SGM file connected with the ROM before you start flashing any cards with new cfw... I'm not entirely sure though. You could always get another SD card loaded up with the cfw, and revert back to the default one if it's not working as intended. But I do assure you, the current best cfw for the Anbernic 280V is definitely the one called Adam. Once you've gotten used to it, it's definitely hard to revert back.
I’m looking for my first handheld emulator. at first I was looking at the bigger anbernic rg351mp and the retroid pocket 2+ but those systems are not as pocketable as I’d like so I found the RG280V and the Powkiddy v90. And these 2 are the perfect size. All though the RG280V is better quality and plays PS1 games better. I’m going to go with the Powkiddy. I’ve never had a Gameboy advanced SP (had the GB color and advance) but always wanted an SP. I love the clamshell design. Also I don’t mind that it only plays 8 and 16 bit games. This is going to be my first emulator so this will give me a taste of what to expect and when I’m ready to play more powerful games I’ll just get a second more powerful handheld like the Retroid Pocket 2+ (I really wanna be able to play Dreamcast too since that was one of my favorite systems growing up)
"I'm 37 years old, cool is gone...I'm not gonna be cool, so I'd rather have the things that I need." EXACTLY! I have the same mantra. Who is else is there to impress? Other late 30s and early 40s people? Haha Anyway I'm contemplating on buying the V90 for NES, SNES, SEGA and Game Boy for RPG games coz it's just $25 in a local e-shopping site. But I'm thinking of buying the newer Ambernic model the RG35XX, so I can play some PSX games but it's $50. Kinda torn between the two.
Thanks for teaching me about clean shutdowns! A lot of my source ports on my pocket go v1 wouldn't work at all and it's probably because I just used the power button to shut it off whenever I wanted and that probably wasnt the best.
I took Legend of the River King 2 for gameboy color and made it rumble with the Gameboy ROM Analyzer for Windows and changed the cartridge type to 1EH and fixed the header. I also patched Nushi Tsuri Adventure-Kite no Bouken to English for gameboy color and that has Rumble as well. Cool games. I Etched and partitioned my SD with new Firmware as well and it ran a lot better.
I've been thinking about getting the V90, and now there's a black version I'm leaning MOAR towards it now. I love my OG RG350 for PS1 for obvious reasons, you could play ape escape with ALL the buttons necessary, but no one wants the V90 for PS1, but I'd love the V90 for everything 8 and 16 bit, NES SNES, GB, GBC, GBA, Masters, Genesis, GG, TG16 and others. Sure it can play some PS1 like 2D games but I don't want it for that. IMO the L2 and R2 buttons are a waste, unless i can assign them for system or save/load functions.
I've got the PowKiddy V90 and PowKiddy RGB20S... and it's kind of a "use case" for me between the two. The V90, while not as capable (especially with the garbage stock firmware that I plan on replacing yesterday once I've got the money to blow on a 128GB SD Card) is actually POCKETABLE and great for the majority of emulation up to the PS1. The Ambernic? I don't know about that, the MIYOO Mini looks a bit more interesting. At least to me. lol
I have a V90. I've found (like Ridge Racer) that doesn't want to load the BIN & CUE files, A. Try a PAL version of that format or B. Try the PBP version. For FF7 use PAL, Resident Evil 1-3 use PBP, & Tony Hawk 1-4 use PBP. Only Tony Hawk 4 I've found runs at 20fps but all others full 60fps. Plus you'll need a bigger battery, usually I only get around an hr of gameplay off the stock one
@@72A1D372 Maybe you got the wrong firmware or something idk in the next few days mine will arrive then I'll test it (you need the v90 firmware in order for the buttons to work)

Great Review! Takes me back to old school Tiger Claw TV. Does the Anbernic screen get scratched much because it's not protected like the Powkiddy? RIDGE RACER! This was awesome!
Mine hasn't got scratched yet. It's pretty solid. I was able to find screen protectors and a nice hard case on Aliexpress. Decided not to get them though.

I'm 47 now...
...i don't even remember what cool was!
I'm 23 years old and.

50. Just counting down the days now
The powkiddy formfactor is the one i want, but than high qualiy and good chip. Hope Anbernic also do one.

What I hate is how unprotected the 280v screen is and they don't sell screen protectors
Plus form factor cramps the hell out of my hands
I got a miyoo mini plus so I gave away the 280v and kept the v90 in my pocket for when I'm bored in a line

Thats awesome man. Enjoy it!
I have an rg280v for over a year now, and I really love the buttons of the device.
I found a Spyro rom and tossed it into the rg280v and love it even with no analog joysticks.
I ordered both ! Can't wait to get my hands on em. I will probably use the RG280V for PS1 and the V90 for playing pokemon Rom Hacks.

On the rg280v you can instal retroarch, on the v90 you can't. Thats for me the main selling point...
With miyoo cfw u can install retroarch on the v90
If they made a decent build quality version of the SP design, I'd buy that in a heartbeat. I only went with 280v bc I feel it'll last longer

What commodore games can you play on this? Wizard?
I mostly play Sword of Faragol, but it has run most things I throw at it
does v90 have built in memory for saving ?
No. The v90 has an SD card slot. The firmware is all stored on this single SD card. It's also where games are saved.
Can rg280v play java games?
Unfortunately no. It's a Linux environment specifically for roms.
Fml I have the same fanny pack
