6:44-7:00 this is so relatable, you've literally put in to words something I've been struggling to come to pin point for so many years. I think as artists- especially in this age where social media puts even more pressure on us to compare our own work to others- it is so difficult to maintain the confidence in our own creative abilities. Identifying what works best for us personally, rather than seeing the successes of other artists as the "ultimate" art successes, is such a huge obstacle that is often overlooked in the art world, because comparisons happen kind of naturally in everyday life- it's a hard habit to take over control of. Art is individual to the artist, and it is up to us to use what media and techniques cooperate best with us to create pieces that share our stories/ messages etc. But then again, that is so much easier said than done... Thank you for sharing your own personal feelings/ insight on the struggles you face in your work. As I said, it is so hard to avoid the temptation of only posting and viewing the most perfect outcomes on social media/ in education environments/ galleries etc, and with that our own struggles that occur during the making process are widely unknown to others, which I find personally makes me feel more isolated as an artist (despite almost everyone experiencing the same issue haha). P.S The little book of "Why the Sky is so Far Away" is so cute! Such a lovely tale and your illustrations compliment it brilliantly :) Also yes, the "art itch" is very relatable haha it's impossible to step away from it for too long before you end up caving in and making something else lol
Aww wow thank you for taking the time to write this! It's so hard to stay true to yourself when theres so many different art styles I love and want to emulate. But when ever I do this it never feels like my work; Im always most proud of the work which is 90% me 10% inspiration from other artists :)
I remember finding your channel around when you were doing Bean and Bog! I love how you created the illustrations for it and how your art has developed into creating collage now 😊
OMG!!! I love your style. Where you say you wish your art was like others, their's always seem better....well, that's words out of my mouth when I see your art. It's amazing. I could sit and watch you for hours. Don't doubt yourself, you are amazingly creative and imaginative...WOW....I'm blown away..xxx
You have such a lovely touch , your sweet yet interesting faces, and the magic you do with color. I predict you will have lots of success as a children's book illustrator.
Hello, yes I remember your foundation project. I loved how that book came out. I know you mentioned it was just for you to finish, but I would so buy that book if it was available for purchase. It was cute and unique to your style. I loved it! :)
I remember failing a project at Uni which was exactly what I wanted to do (although I did photography) and it was devastating, but I managed to come back swinging! I love the colours you've used in this, the representation of the sky is amazing. Hope you have a relaxing Easter!
Hi Em, what a stunning video! I love the way you illustrated both the books, particularly the cover wreath and the Nigerian village spread. Just a little tip for your arm: only put moisturising cream on when your skin is damp, eg when you come out of the shower. Otherwise, the nourishing elements of the cream don't have any moisture to trap inside your skin. (Moisturisers keep moisture in, they don't create it.)
I will try to remember that you can make any project fun, the next time I start a very boring video at work 😂😂 The final piece looks so so cool. All the colours work so well together 😍
Weirdly enough I was talking to my sister about Bean and Bog today and how it sort of changed my idea of what a children's book could be! I love this new one too. 🥰
Omg the artwork in this video was gorgeous!! Loved watching you work on bean and bog, honestly I think you would be amazing illustrating a children's book and I know you'll get there! Can't wait to see your dreams become a reality :D
Hello! Just want to drop by to say that I think you’d be very good at doing children’s books and I hope you get to do it someday!! I love your artworks and I believe others will too!
Could you tell what the podcast is called? I really wanna get into a personal picture book illustration project and it would be cool to also choose a story to illustrate:))

love the topic of this video, presenting both the highs and lows of doing art, especially since I am one of the people who have messaged you before asking for advice ahah. i also did a project for the penguin competition! i did the murder most unladylike book :)
Hi Em, great video. Thank you! May I ask what brand watercolor pad you’re using here? Looking for a decent one to make digital prints from, not necessarily the highest end stuff for originals. 😂 thanks!
you have been blessed with the best teddy in existence! Mines called Splodge and he is my most cherished possession, he goes every where with me and is like a member of the family at this point!! :)
