@AkkaniJ Yes, you can list yourself as a board member. Founders will typically sit on the board as a nonvoting board member (to avoid conflict of interest) This is know as an Ex-Officio board member. Most founders, CEO and Executive Directors hold this position on the board.
Hello @chriskim0101 In this video we are completing the 501c3 application which uses IRS form 1023. Around 7:30 we are entering the founder/applicant's information, such as name and address. Hope this helps.
@looseendapparel The 501c3 application is to establish tax exempt status for nonprofit organizations. Nonprofits are established to provide charitable services to the community. Some nonprofits may have an earned income venture such as a clothing brand. For example, Homeboy Industries has a bakery, and Goodwill operates thrift stores. There are also clothing brands (like Toms Shoes) with a charitable mission, but they are not required to complete the 501c3 application.
@shaneperrysburg4516 - I believe California has no restrictions on where a board member can reside. The question is, are they able to fulfil their full duties as a board member, out of the Country? Are they able to attend all meetings? Are they able to fulfill all of your board's requirements? Can they relate to your organization, being out of the Country? You may want to check with your attorney to be certain.
I get what you are saying - the 1023ez as of 2024 is only 6 parts not 12 parts. The video is saying 1040ez that she is doing (showing 12 parts) and I'm thinking maybe it has changed more recently to 6 parts and not 12, unless this is the full blown form 1023.

I am in the early stages of organizing my NGO. This video is really on point, and I appreciate your effort.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for your time, help, good energy and wisdom. Grateful, God bless.
Are you able to list yourself as board of directors on 1023 EZ, even if it’s temporary? Thank you
