Great video, thanks. I’ll organize and pick one up from Gramophone when I’m passing through Maryland this year. I will have you set it up with OM- Black MM cartridge into an McIntosh MA5300 Amplifier. This gr2 looks better than anything we ran in the 70’s.
Hi John, the P6 with Exacta 2 is also a fine combo. We haven't compared the Ortofon black and P6 directly vs SL-1200GR2 and assorted carts, so we can't say it will blow yours away, But if you live in our area we welcome you to bring your 'table in for a demo, once they arrive. Technics plans to ship by end of 2023
Using something like a Denon 103 can be a struggle to get enough head shell mass (or effective tonearm mass I guess) for proper control of the low compliance cartridge. In my experience, I added head shell weight and the supplied extra counter weight to balance or the sound suffered. I bought the DL-103 not realizing how low compliance it is and it sounded awful (noticeably worse than a N97xE or a AT-VM95ML) until I educated myself and applied the tuning above (yes, with appropriate MC Pre). Thought it was the stylus differences but no, for me it was setup. Also, it's worth mentioning something most reviewers tend to miss - the supplied head shell has a set screw which allows for azimuth adjustment. Mine was noticeably off out of the box and the micro-line cartridge sounded very unbalanced until I dialed in the azimuth. I'm not at all a golden ear but I do actually hear the differences with proper set up given all the cartridge and geometry fussing about for setup. I've since bought a bunch of head shells to experiment and realized after the fact most of the cheap ones do not allow azimuth changes - I encourage buying ones which do allow for azimuth adjustment. Absolutely love the TT. Mine did not come with a 3mm spacer as mentioned by some other reviewers, so again - the 103 needs one. The tonearm on the black model is silver not black - doesn't bother me - maybe just a variation on later shipping models since I bought mine roughly Feb 2024. Copied most of this from other videos since I see this info often missing.
Thank you Dscrimager, your main point is a good one: A 'table / cartridge combination always sounds better when correctly set up. At times the improvement is slight, other times, major. Two friends,, each with several decades in audio, bought new 'tables recently and were pretty unhappy until they got them set up correctly
Hello Qorax, manufacturers are reluctant to discuss their new product development roadmaps, as last-minute engineering hiccups sometimes delay manufacturing by months, or even years. During that time, folks who feel they were promised a new product by X timeframe get really anxious... no fun for anybody
@@GramophoneMDAhh too bad! Timeframes don't have to be an issue when there's no release date announced. Just an announcement that something new is coming up is good for the company, it shows that they're still moving forward on their top tier products! It's a bit like a teaser - even large companies like Apple do this from time to time... when a product prototype is promising and potentially revolutionary (like the first iPad).
Hi LM, the new motor and its upgraded multi-stage power supply equate to a significantly quieter experience. We should have them in @ 6 weeks for you to audition
I wish the tonearms were better. I’ve read an SME tonearms can be adapted. But, I would like to see a straight arm model. And motor / arm suspension isolation.
I'll echo these comments. I'd also like the option to purchase the 1200GR without tonearm. I've had my eye on getting a turntable that I can mount an originlive encounter tonearm.
Hi Joshua, Bill did mention to us that they have introduced the Sigma drive at a price point that they felt would make a really noticeable difference. Our guess is that over time we will see it on more models - or in some cases, perhaps a derivative of the Sigma drive. Technics always seems to make really solid products
Agreed DJ, this 'table is really cool. If you want them, please place an order soon, as the first shipment is apparently close to selling out as of our last chat with our reps
As usual Technics always delivering.
Hi Drubber, we're glad you think so!
So this turntable was last on my list, now the more im seeing it the more i want it
Hello Lee, yes, it's a good one and we're excited about it
Love Technics tables!
Ditto Temu, thank you
You just presented my new turntable 💯 % ❤ 4 generation of turntables thanks for Japanese ingenieuring
Hi Stephan, this is a really good 'table! Bill did a good job explaining as well
16:00 I love technics tables, but especially the old ones, with the discrete components ! 😉
Thanks Dab, yes, they've been a very reliable partner and continue to be

Terrific MRG, we look forward to seeing you when you come visit. Give us some heads-up before you visit so we can advise on availability
Cool. Ok if I buy one and say use an Ortofon black will it blow away my Rega P6 with Exact 2?

Looks GREAT!
Yes Ronald, a classic look - updated nicely
Bill convinced me, great deck.
It's a pleasure to work on a video with a vendor who knows his product so thoroughly - good job Bill!
I’ll be honest, I’m so close to getting rid of my VPI for the grand class.
Hello again Robert, we're glad you dig the vinyl hobby

But will there be an SL-1200G2?

So what’s new in the GR2 is the sigma/delta motor control, which you can’t see or hear in a TH-cam video.

Waiting for the 1200g to be upgraded to the sigma drive. Don't really understand Technics marketing strategy of only upgrading the mid-tier model.

Anyone heard anything on US release date?
Hello Mr Hood, yes - shipping now in limited quantities, as we've received our first few units within the last couple of days. We're excited!
Have to have Automatic so keeping my 1600mk2 & MA1❤❤
Good choice :-)
I wish they’d offer a XLR output
Hey Robert, that would make it even better - but we're impressed with what you get for this level of investment.
I have a TEAC TN-5BB turntable that has RCA and XLR and I really like it. But I just bought a new SL-1200GR2 and so far I'm liking it also.
I'll take two.

If Linn or Rega developed the Sigma system all the clowns who rubbish it would say it was a revelation
Hi Matthew, thanks for your comment - food for thought!
bla bla bla. We want to see a real test.
Hello Megggg, "the proof is in the pudding", so when we receive our first models (likely in December) we hope you can visit us for an audition
