  • This is the Concerto for virtuoso trumpet by Oskar Boehme (Opus 18), here performed by Melvin Keith Olson on his Mount Vernon Vincent Bach Stradivarius model Bb cornet (c.1962), supported with a vibrant and equally virtuosic accompaniment by Steinway Artist Layton "Skip" James.     When Franz Herbst transposed the work from e minor to f minor for modern instruments, a cut was made in the double-tonguing segment at the end of the first movement. We removed this cut to make our performance faithful to the original version. The three movements are the dramatic "Allegro moderato," the very emotional "Andante religioso," and the final "Rondo, Allegro scherzando."
