I can attest that the TECSUN PL-880 has awesome audio quality! It's my favorite portable for MUSIC, Not a usual quality for a radio designed primarily for shortwave.
They are a great set but the lower end Tescun are total junk, I bought a little R1212A multiband pocket set to use when outdoors, I used it for 5 minutes and put it where it belonged (in the bin)
@@georgebarnes8163 I think the point he is trying to make here is that the Icom does not belong in this group because it's a transceiver . And I agree with that.
@@robertarchuletta2498 transceiver also receive, I have a few transceivers that I have bought purely for the purpose of receiving but I do take your fair point.
You should include the Qodosen SR-286/DX-286, it outperforms most other portables that I've used in 55 years of DX'ing. My Tecsun 880 and 990 are also awesome receivers.
En la época que usted inició como DX fui asiduo oyente de Radio Nederlan. Luego me dediqué a mi labor de electricista. Ahora en retiro quiero reiniciar DX. Que radio receptor me recomienda después que la tecnología dio un salto enorme...saludos.
Don't you think comparing a top of the range amateur transceiver with otherwise more portable shortwave receivers is a good comparison? Comparing apples with cabbage? Tecsun 501x as no.1 and the others as shiwn is ok, but the transceiver needs a completely different comparison...
The Icom 7300 clearly does not belong here. But it does make a point. Listening to swl can be a gateway to becoming a ham. And these days ham HF radios are general coverage receivers with very good sensitivity and all sorts of notch filters and selectable bandwidths. But it needs a hefty power supply if you choose to transmit with it. That's gonna set you back about $200. You could use a smaller power supply like a 5 amp if your just going to receive with it. But I think it's ridiculous to spend $1000 on a sw radio that only receives.
@georgebarnes8163 in English? I mean commercial broadcasters. sweden, Nederlands, Spain and other European countries. I am a Amateur operator ( a ZL2 ) but used to enjoy international s.w broadcasts.

The Icom 7300 is an amateur radio transceiver, not a receiver. It has an MSRP of $1100.
He clearly stated that it was a transceiver, did you miss it?

Was wondering why TECSUN PL 680 didn't make it to the list?
I'd give any receiver extra points if it has Single Sideband mode.

He would have to change the title of the video if he did that.
