Theres a bunch of videos but this is an old ass coment so i doubt u dont know this by now but watching pro clips helps just slow them down and take notes on what causes hitters to hit a certain way other ways is watching eyes aproach angle etc just basic stuff
1. I would recommend to specify also rules which deals with such a set. 2. It would be useful to put the another camera parallel with a net - above net and to explain a correct position of the setterś hand and also the incorrect above/over the net.
thanks for providing this video . it will help all the volley ball setters those who play volley ball it help me a lot to learn one handed SET very easily - THANKS A LOT AGAIN FOR PROVIDING THIS VIDEO
can you make a video explaining 5-1 and 4-2 but in play?? i need to visually see it to under stand it, and i'm trying out for a club team and i realllllly need to know how to do them
MissMaddieMakeup 5-1: same setter no matter if theyre in front or back row and the other 5 are hitters 4-2 two setters that alternate and whoever is in the front row is the setter other 4 are.hitters 6-2 same as 4-2 but the setter is always in back row so that there will be 3 hitters at all times
You should make an appendix to the video and show how to fake a one-hand set and perform a feint if you read that the ball is going over. I love it but it's extremely risky!
I only call carry if the player absorbs the ball too much/long into the hand. Players who get calls will make contact with the fingers first, then the elbow and/or wrist will flex back with the ball in hand, and then they extend. The player should make contact with the ball as their elbow is going from flexed to extended. Also if there's backspin on the set, that's an indicator they're carrying.
I think of a carry as pushing the ball in more than one direction. Ie catching it while still going forward and then pushing it backwards. Or a hitter catching in one way and throwing it down a different way. A lot of these are actually doubles. But they’re pretty lenient on these because they’re so fun.
7:14 omg how old the 79 (red shirt) is? I'm 46, I played when I was 17/18. Now my 12yo daughter plays with an U14 team, we play every weekend. I thought i was too old to start playing again, but maybe i was wrong :D He's so inspiring!
Hello Coach, incredible video as always, thank you very much. Could you make a video of how to set when the pass goes very close to the net with both hands?
what way, destroy the ball or pass the ball? if u want to destroy u should jump higher than the net and coordinate your feet and arms. else you should make the ball rotate and focus a target.
Hey Coach, love your videos. Can you do a video showing how high players jump to spike different types of sets? Like height before and after jumps? Thanks.
I’m 5’5 and I have the highest vertical on my team, do a LOT of leg strength exercises. Jump squats, jump roping everyday, one legged squats, they help a lot. Also swing ur arms
Hey Donny, as a passionate amateur since two years I still haven't figured out how to hit the ball properly with my hand. Should I put tension in my hand and fingers or not, should I hit the ball with (mainly) the thenar or all of my hand? Should I spread my fingers? And what about my thumb? There are guys that make a fist!? And how can I exercise velocity and precision? Maybe this is a topic for a beginner's guide? Aside I really appreciate your excellent work! Greetings from Germany :)
I watched most if your videos and was super excited to try things but totally tanked today my defense it pretty good but I missed so many today… really not sure why…any advice of days like this? As I am starting to question my play now 😢😢😢
hey coach, opinions on using the finger gun to set? friends talk about it but dont know how to do it well or when i'd use it over the hand positions in this video
physics, physics, physics. Propelling the ball with a proper transmission of energy from the hand to the ball, using your bones as the axis. *smiles cheerfully*
Wouldn't a lot of these be considered a double contact? I know spin isn't the only determining factor but most refs I know would call these in league play. Is it just different rules in America?
I assume one-hand set with a Palm (whole hand contacting the ball) is considered a 'carry' or 'lift', but sometimes the fingers not strong enough to set further, the what we should do?
Hey coach Donny, Is there a proper way to use your feet to recover a ball that is out of reach of your arms, if so could you walk us through the steps of how to effectively using our feet when required? I know we can pancake the ball but what if the ball is travelling to fast for us to react. Thanks for the videos
Can you make a video about how train with a partner and how to set up somehow a pairing between your partner and you for a perfect play-together pls ^^
Well at least for me what worked the best was mastering the technique, #1 you want to have your thumbs facing you,all-through the motion of a set, dont throw them out, lock them in. #2 Focus on setting more with your wrists rather than with your fingers. #3 Also keep your fingers hard when setting in motion or while chasing a difficult ball. #4 You also want to keep your elbows shoulder wide, tuck them in#5 Raise hands above your forehead. So you can see the player youŗe passing. # And last, practice a lot. And by a lot i mean a lot. Go against the wall and master your craft daily, consistency is the key. Peace !
Hey coach donny, im 14 years old and i play volleyball a lot, is it normal if i spike the ball it slips? And how to avoid that, i just started playing and I can't do a clean spike :(
hey there Donny our winter league started yesterday and we won our three games pretty handily but I was wondering if you have any ideas on maximizing the potential of a four player coed team. Whether it be a specific formation like a diamond or a square, or lining people up in a certain way, or giving specific jobs to each player?
Elevate Yourself Alright thanks for the incite. We usually do the one blocker three diggers strategy, just because it seems easier to do. my friend Sara is 6ft and I'm 6'2. while my friends Jake and Ashley are both under 5'7. I'm sure you could figure out who attacks and who sets on our team fairly easily ha. The biggest thing we've struggled with so far are teams who tend to push deep to the corners or tip on us. We haven't lost a match but we have dropped a set and it was primarily because of tips and pushes. I probably spend more time thinking about how to improve myself and our team more than anyone in our league so I truly appreciate you getting back to me.
Depends on the hand motion. A lot of the spinning ones in this video are doubles (should be called). If the point of contact on the ball is small then it could be spinning just because of an off center contact.
It is a carry only when performing your wrist bends backwards for power. What could also occure is a double-touch when you fail to contact the ball simultaneusly.
Do you have any tips about how to read players better? Or like, how to see the court ?
Experience make the different
Line up with their body when they hit, watch their shoulders, hips, and sometimes hand
it s pure instinct man
Theres a bunch of videos but this is an old ass coment so i doubt u dont know this by now but watching pro clips helps just slow them down and take notes on what causes hitters to hit a certain way other ways is watching eyes aproach angle etc just basic stuff
OH YES, BEEN WAITING FOR THIS

I would love this one too, please coach! A deep insight on to those strategies would be really really useful
You should make an appendix to the video and show how to fake a one-hand set and perform a feint if you read that the ball is going over. I love it but it's extremely risky!
Thank you so much
please keep doing these
all of your videos have helped me so much

Dont think to do it perfectly, the more you want it to be perfect the more mistakes.JUST FOR ME

Thanks for the video Don
Hello Coach, incredible video as always, thank you very much.
Could you make a video of how to set when the pass goes very close to the net with both hands?
Great videos! Can you make a video that shows possible hand positions for two-handed setting when the ball is close to the net?
Can you make one about how to not net when I hit or how to not go past the line when I hit??
what way, destroy the ball or pass the ball? if u want to destroy u should jump higher than the net and coordinate your feet and arms. else you should make the ball rotate and focus a target.
Elevate Yourself can you show how to fake spike then set
Hey Coach, love your videos. Can you do a video showing how high players jump to spike different types of sets? Like height before and after jumps? Thanks.
Are there any excerise's that I can do to jump higher? I'm 5'6 and I can't really spike or do a jump serve effectively.
mini fuzz I feel your pain. I'm 5'6 too and it isn't exactly ideal for this sport xD
Look up jump training on Coach Donny's channel (Elevate Yourself).
increase your vertical jump dont get incourage
mini fuzz hi im 5’1
14yrs old
I can sometimes jump serve and can rarely spike
I’m 5’5 and I have the highest vertical on my team, do a LOT of leg strength exercises. Jump squats, jump roping everyday, one legged squats, they help a lot. Also swing ur arms
Can you pls make a video about how to set a ball as Libero when you need to jump from the backpart of the playground into the attackzone

Raymond Camacho he's done those. look on the channel first before asking lol
Thank you, VERY helpful!!!
Late question, but is it okay that the ball spins as I set it?
Can you make a video on when to do the signals when your a volleyball setter

Do you have any tips of doing a good block ?
Y’all make it look so easy
How to aim when spiking
Dear Coach Donny, how do you do guess block?
So does this mean the ball can spin quite a bit and not be called double hit? Maybe it's a lift (or illegal hit)?
thanks
I haven't been watching your videos for too long but ive learned a lot. Could u make a video on back row jump hitting
Can you make a video on setter with small hand which is really difficult to give a perfect set to hitter.
hey coach, opinions on using the finger gun to set? friends talk about it but dont know how to do it well or when i'd use it over the hand positions in this video
Can we set ball with one hand without jump......
Can you make a video about setting back row attacks?
Can you do 2 finger bump with a on hand set?
physics, physics, physics. Propelling the ball with a proper transmission of energy from the hand to the ball, using your bones as the axis. *smiles cheerfully*
Can you do a trick plays video in other words how to fool the blockers to have a open hitter. Thank you!
Wouldn't a lot of these be considered a double contact? I know spin isn't the only determining factor but most refs I know would call these in league play. Is it just different rules in America?
Youre using one hand to touch the ball so its impossible to called a double
hi coach how many times a week should we train to increase our vertical
I assume one-hand set with a Palm (whole hand contacting the ball) is considered a 'carry' or 'lift', but sometimes the fingers not strong enough to set further, the what we should do?

How to read the blocks coach donny?
Tnx coach ❤
ty so much
Can you make a video about how train with a partner and how to set up somehow a pairing between your partner and you for a perfect play-together pls ^^
You should do a video about a perfect set.
Everytime i do this the referee tells me i "carry" the ball or touch it twice.. eventhough the set was correct. How do i know if he is right?
do you have any tips on setting without spin?
Well at least for me what worked the best was mastering the technique, #1 you want to have your thumbs facing you,all-through the motion of a set, dont throw them out, lock them in. #2 Focus on setting more with your wrists rather than with your fingers. #3 Also keep your fingers hard when setting in motion or while chasing a difficult ball. #4 You also want to keep your elbows shoulder wide, tuck them in#5 Raise hands above your forehead. hey there Donny our winter league started yesterday and we won our three games pretty handily but I was wondering if you have any ideas on maximizing the potential of a four player coed team. How to hit a quick set
A different kind of blocking
I tried doing this & I bent my thumb all the way back. It hurt so bad.
I like this
Watching this rn cause I can still go and practice with my team but I have a broken arm
how to fake spike then set
Is its fault when the ball is spinn?
Depends on the hand motion. A lot of the spinning ones in this video are doubles (should be called). If the point of contact on the ball is small then it could be spinning just because of an off center contact.
You will also learn how to set 4's, 1's, 3's, and 5's with one hand. where set 2's???
Will refs call a double if you do a one handed set?
very hard to touch the ball twice with one hand LOL
but they may call you on a lift, just try to reduce the time you are in contact with the ball
Daniel Kwan I thought they would call a double because it would be too much spin on the ball but thanks for the clearing
Brothatisjake a double isn't called because of the spin.. A double is a double touch
refs usually call a double because there is a high correlation between a double contact and how much spin a ball has
Daniel Kwan exactly but one hand sets will be called for a lift rather than a double
how tall are u
slayrmike gaming 7;9
but wouldnt that be a carry ?
if u use your finger prints
It is a carry only when performing your wrist bends backwards for power. What could also occure is a double-touch when you fail to contact the ball simultaneusly.
Soles Chan no
Okay what
lol, the only reason i am watching this is because my left hand is in a cast
👍
constant argument between ump and player .....legit set or lift/push/carry
Problem with a few of these are they’re doubles.
Lmao that tall guy at 8:15 has like a half inch vertical
bro who is setting a shoot with one hand 😭
god
