Hey guys, a viewer from San Antonio, Texas here. If you do decide to take that trip to Texas in the future, it might interest you to know that a lot (possibly even most) people in Texas have their own brisket recipes and rituals as well. There's quality BBQ everywhere you go.
The menu can be similar, but you will never get the exact same potato salad, either, eating in places here, there, and all over. Most every aspect of BBQ, and BBQ associated foods, has been personalized over generations by countless families.

Jolly rated their best five meals from last year. Texas BBQ was number one. Last year they dined at Buckingham Palace (didn't make the top 5), and with top chefs in several countries. Bisquits and gravy made the top 5. Lots of good food in the world. The US has very good food. We have appropriated everyones cuisine and made it our own. We have wonderful variety. I bought my husband a really nice smoker for Christmas and now I regret it….he smokes EVERYTHING! It is delicious but every day almost? Since Christmas, he has gone through 160 pounds of pellets for the smoker! But I really can’t complain, he does fix supper every night so he’s a pretty good man!❤
The size of beef ribs can depend on how they're cut and what breed of cattle the meat comes from. Britain was huge in the spice trade..and then didn't use hardly any of it. Well we decided to use *all* of it. 😂
Hello from Dallas, TX. It could get pretty expensive depending on where in TX you visit, but because BBQ is such a staple down here, you can find it for decent prices pretty much anywhere. Specific cuts of meat are going to be what sets you back. For my wife, my son, and myself if we go to an above average BBQ joint, we’ll probably spend $50-$75 after tip for all 3 of us with leftovers to take home. If y’all have any more questions, feel free to ask. Have a great rest of y’all’s day.
most of the cost is due to labor. if it takes 16 hours to make, you have to account for 16 hours of labor and once they run out, thats it until the next day. many top tier BBQ places also use prime cuts which means you have to charge even more to make a profit. its pricy but always worth it.
That all looked fabulous....there is so much good food in America that I can't imagine not having it all available any time I want it. When you come don't go to fast food places. Go to restaurants that serve local food. That will be your best experience. Don't be afraid to ask local people where you should go. The ribs are huge because the Texas Longhorn Cattle are immense! Googled Longhorn Steers & you'll be amazed. I believed I've heard people quote prices for that tray of food to be $300 up to $600.

American BBQ is the best. The southern states are best known for their BBQ. Low and slow cooking. I make BBQ often. Gotta come and try it ..with your free refills of soda/sweet tea. 🎉
Beef Longhorn cattle.😂 The thing is guys, The US has food, and Cooks, basically from all different countries, that have come to America. Plus Americans I believe are not afraid to try different combinations, and dips, gravy's, sauce, spices, plus they grow more, and even make hybrid, new things. For instance The Marion Berry. Made from two different berries, At Oregon State University.
You better come to Texas! Look up other Brits who've watched this Jolly video and made it their major dream to go to Terry Black's and did it...they filmed it and want to move there now (just dreaming of moving, but totally had a meal that was unforgettable!)
All beef ribs aren’t that big, those are specifically cut that way. Also, that whole plate is well over $120 mainly because of the beef rib and how much brisket they got, but the avg person wouldn’t order that each 😂. I’m in Houston but I’ve been there a few times
First, good reaction to Jolly at Black's BBQ which is in the center of Texas. The reality of BBQ though in Texas is that if you go to any city or small town in Texas they have their own BBQ places, and if you asked the people there you'll get the reply that their's is the best. You could literally travel for weeks trying different BBQ from Houston to El Paso, Amarillo to Brownsville and not have the same taste each place. In San Antonio there are at least 50 different BBQ restraunts, some big, some small that have their loyal customers. One thing that I didn't notice on Jolly's platter was chicken which smaller BBQ places have, that comes as a half or quarter. Also, places like Black's make their sausage in large links about a foot long, while smaller places make shorter links about 4 inches. Like I mentioned their are a lot of different BBQ places just in Texas as there are in the entire South of USA.
Y'all Come. I recommend pretty much a 60 mile radiua of Austin. Most places cut the ribs in half or thirds because they're so bug. If you smoke them, you don't cut them. If you get a normal meal amount of food, you can easily feed it out at $30-35 per person. These guys easily bought three meals worth. There are some guys in Germany (the heritage of Texas BBQ) who came over and learned the technique and took it home. Google Texas BBQ in Germany and give it a try.
You know - depending on what part of Texas you go to - and how long you plan on being here, you could actually rent a car (as long as you on the closer to eastern side of Texas (which Austin is!!) - and you could spend a couple of days in Louisiana, then Mississippi and even make it to Georgia - again depending on how long you plan on being in the US!! You would certainly get your file a great southern food!!! and BBQ!!
I'm living at my 35th address at places all over the world (to include England, and I must say one the best meals I've ever had was in Sheffield in the hotel by the Sheffield Football Stadium) , but by God's grace about 24 years of my life were in the Great State of Texas. Oh my Lord, between the Tex-Mex and BBQ, I've never experienced better cuisine anywhere else.
Hello! Texan here ❤. I love our barbecue. Y'all have to visit soon. But plan your trip around the weather. You don't want to come in the summer. It's too dang hot for that
I'm a Texas transplant from Alabama, via Tennessee. We all do our bbq well. Texas bbq is wonderful. You won't be disappointed. Back in Alabama, we're known for our bbq chicken with white sauce. If you're a beef lover, you'll be in heaven here in Texas.
One of you is a Texan at heart. The BBQ Texas is known worldwide for, is dry rub no sauce. Generally speaking... if you are at a BBQ in Texas and the meat is pre sauced, the presumption is mistakes were made and the cook is trying to hide them behind the sauce. In Texas, the meat speaks for itself, and if done correctly, saucing will only deter from experiencing the true flavor of the meat/smoke/bark mix. The bark is the sauce substitute.
Was recently at Terry Blacks, Austin (this restaurant) .. got 1 Sausage, 1/2 pound of Brisket, 2 ribs, no beef ribs and a few sides with an Iced Tea and it was $45 (US).. I was by myself but if I was with my wife we would have gotten a couple of the Beef Ribs and a few sides.. its so much meat.. so much I had to go for a walk before the concert.. I'm about 90 mins away from Austin, so I get there 10-15 times a year.. I would recommend Terry Blacks because they always have brisket and its 5 star brisket.... when many other BBQ spots in Austin sell out cause they only make a limited amount.
LOL, did he say $30 for that? These guys at Terry Blacks have cooked this stuff for 12-15 hours in the blistering heat. The napkins they used to wipe their sweat away, are worth $30 alone, not to mention the cost of premium beef these days. As a Texan, I can tell you, at most "make you want to cry it's so good" BBQ joints, you're not getting out of there for less than $100.
If you make it to Texas, you will love the BBQ. There is a place outside of Austin, Texas called 'The Salt Lick'. It has an all you can eat menu...I have been there many times. Terry Black's in Austin is also very good place, also is Franklin's BBQ, but you have to wait in line to eat, its that good
I am American, but we don’t have that BBQ restaurant in Florida, but when I can find beef ribs I always buy them, awesomely delicious. And the cut if the rib is either large or skinny!
I thought the guy with the hat was excited then the other guy piped up !!! Love 💕 how they are sharing with the Camara men !!! This is over the top though !!! Wow there’s a post saying 400 plus dollar dinner !!!
At least for the brisket, it's all about the smoking. In Texas, the bark is made with salt and pepper and then 12+ hours of smoke from post oak. When you come to Texas, you should head to the Terry Black's in Lockhart (about 30-40 minutes south of the Austin one and is the home of the Black Family). I'd be happy to host and show you around that area (it's a small Texas town).
I live in Newfoundland, I have yet to ever make it to the United States, but if and when I do, Texas and Terry Black's is on my list, excellent reaction
Terry Black's and Franklin BBQ are the most famous Austin BBQ places, which are Central Texas-Style (primarily beef brisket over indirect heat with mostly oakwood with dry rubs and little or no sauce. Most restaurants offer thin, relativiely bland sauces so not to compete with the meat flavor). Some of the other styles of BBQ are: -Eastern Carolina-Style (coastal North Carolina and Virginia) - Throughout the Carolinas, barbecue is exclusively defined as being pork, though many restaurants also offer BBQ chicken. Pork can be either prepared as the whole animal (Whole Hog) or prepared by the individual cut, typically the shoulder. Meat is served pulled, shredded, chopped, and occasionally sliced. It is cooked with hardwood and/or hardwood charcoal with hickory smoke. It is served with a very thin, vinegar-based sauce (with chile pepper purée and spices). Though the sauces differ, Memphis inherited the BBQ pork sandwich style from here. Western Carolina-Style (western portions of North/South Carolina & Virginia) - Similar preparation of E. Carolina but with a tomato ketchup and vinegar-based sauce -South Carolina-Style - Similar preparation of E. Carolina but with a mustard and vinegar-based sauce. Sauces used to 'mop' meat while cooking vary dramatically from Western North Carolina through the East and South Carolina. Although mustard is commonly associated with South Carolina barbecue, its application in barbecue cooking can be seen throughout the United States wherever German immigrants settled.[21] Use of mustard or tomato varies drastically throughout the Carolinas, although mustard based is more common in South Carolina and eastern North Carolina, and vinegar and ketchup based (Lexington-style - Western NC) is more common in central and western North Carolina. Food historians consider Carolina hog-based barbecue the major starting point for American barbecue. -Kansas City-Style - dry rub, then cooked with mixed oak and hickory wood smoke, finished with a thick, sweet tomato-based sauce) -Memphis-Style - mostly made using pork, usually ribs and shoulders, though many restaurants will still serve beef and chicken. Primarily two different dishes: ribs, which come "wet" or "dry", and barbecue sandwiches. Wet ribs are brushed with sauce before and after cooking, and dry ribs are seasoned with a dry rub. Barbecue sandwiches in Memphis are typically pulled pork (that is shredded by hand and not chopped with a blade) served on a simple bun and topped with barbecue sauce, and coleslaw. -St. Louis-Style (eastern Missouri) - characterized by its mildly sweet, tart, and spicy taste and tomato base. A staple of barbecuing in St. Louis is pork steak, which is sliced from the shoulder of the pig. Missouri was originally settled primarily by Southerners from Kentucky, Virginia, and Tennessee bringing BBQ traditions. -Alabama barbecue is generally fueled by hickory wood, but oak and pecan are also used. Like Carolina and Memphis-styles, in Alabama, smoked pork-chipped, chopped, and sliced-is piled on hamburger buns and often topped with coleslaw, with dill pickles added as a defining condiment. Alabama lies between the barbecue poles of Memphis and the Carolinas. In northern Alabama, vinegar-based sauces akin to those in eastern North Carolina are found, but they become scarce south of Birmingham. Variations of tomato-based sauces that bear a kinship to those served from Memphis to eastern Tennessee are served throughout the state. In eastern Alabama, mustard, a South Carolina influence, finds its way into spicy sauces, often in combination with tomato products. -North Alabama-style (North Alabama White Sauce) originally hickory barbecued/smoked chicken. White sauce is a mayonnaise and apple cider vinegar-based barbeque sauce with salt, pepper, and garlic. Now it also served with pork, beef, fish, and other meats. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbecue_in_the_United_States
Josh the one on left is also "The Korean Englishman" on TH-cam and Ollie the one on the right helps on that channel. What is Important about his wonder about flavor is his love of Korean BBQ and the difference between the two.
They have other great videos from Texas. They've barely scratched the state. Also can check out some of the TV shows about Texas, Daytripper, Bucket List, Texas Country Reporter, Texas Music Scene or read Texas Monthly.
I think what you may be used to in the UK are pork ribs which are much smaller in size than beef ribs. Not every American BBQ offers beef ribs on the menu. If you have a spot that offers good beef ribs you are lucky, I can only think of two restaurants in my neck of the woods that prepare beef ribs along with all of the other meats. BTW, Mexican bottled Coke is better than the coke we have in the USA.
Hey folks, a different viewer from San Antonio here, the United States is big, we have a lot of land here and a relatively low population density (114/square mile in Texas). Most of our beef is locally sourced, and we have the space to grow large cattle. I look forward to seeing you here. Now in San Antonio, we have more barbecue per capita than anywhere in the U.S. Blacks BBQ is a family restaurant that is not in San Antonio, but there are a number that are within 90 miles of San Antonio. I think I went to the New Braunfels Blacks and spent about $40.00 for two people. We did not get that size of plate, though.
Brisket is the toughest muscle on beef (bull or cow). You have to smoke it “low & slow”. Low is approximately 270°F, and slow could be anywhere between 8 -16 hours, depending on the size.
Although i do not live in Texas, I can attest to Texas BBQ. A couple thousand miles north, we have some crazy good bbq off of a Food Truck. I just did a dry rub on a couple of tri-tip roasts, that will marinate until tomorrow (24 hrs), then in the smoker for about 5 hours at 195°. It's for a small gathering. About 7 lbs. Have a traditional Southern breakfast also.
So, I live about 10 minutes from that Terry Black's. This entire meal in this video with all the meats and sides probably cost close to $300. But that's a lot of food for about 5 people. . You can go there and get a two meat plate and two sides for about $23. A beef rib at $37 a pound will run about $50-55. Brisket by itself will run about $32 a pound, so maybe half a pound would run around $16. I have a feeling their host was paying for most of their meal.
Terry Blacks is awesome but if you want to sample some of the best BBQ in Texas. Take a 40 minute drive to the city of Lockhart. Lockhart has three or four of the top BBQ locations in the country Ranked by the food network one year including the original Black's BBQ location. BTW Luling is just another 35 minutes south of Lockhart and you will find the birthplace of Buc ees and the largest one. as of 2024
that was NOT a typical menu item - that was something put together for them and their youtube channel - all the meat and sides, of course are available, however they just put together a huge testing plate of everything they make for them to respond to - so if you go.. you'll get a rib or some brisket or sausages and a smaller portion of a side or two - you won't walk away with a huge tray piled up like that unless you really pay up for it
You’d love Austin ,, it’s eclectic and funky and liberal party town When in Austin go to Franklins BBQ ! Be prepared for hours in line though , and it’s that way every day , ! I believe my sis said a 7 hour wait , so go early !
Bought BBQ is expensive but well worth it. It's sold by the pound so it varies. But at Terry Black's it ranges from $25 - $35/ pound depending on what specifically you get. Sides vary as well. Other BBQ places can be a bit cheaper and others more.
The cost varies by items and size of the order and marketplace. You can look at the Terry Black's menu online to get a general idea. The price will likely change by the time you visit.
My lil town has 2 BBQ places that have been around since the 50's and still wood fire their stuff and when they sell out they close lol other all days have popped up but not as good
With themamount of food you're talking about there, here in Corpus Christi, Tx it would be about $30.00, however that much food is definitely a shared thing, so cut the cost in half per person.
I live in Houston and i am in Austin often. I go to Terry Blacks every chance I get....no matter what night it is crowed but no looong line.......You will eat until your sick because it is soooo good you don't want it to end....you will be shocked how much you can or will eat but walking out is a task because your so full you hurt...lol NOT JOKING...

As Americans, we prefer Mexican Coke-Cola. They use real sugar. It has a smother better taste than corn syrup.
It is a sweeping generalization but it's one I back 100%. Mexican coke is objectively a case of perfection being further perfected.
I smoke turkey at least once a week. I do a bit more than the regular Texas salt and pepper but it's so great. Perfect for sandwiches and wraps.

My cousin is a pit master. His ribs, brisket, pulled pork, twice baked potatoes, stuffed mushrooms, and grilled esparagus is 🤌😙
American BBQ is the best. The southern states are best known for their BBQ. Low and slow cooking. I make BBQ often. Gotta come and try it ..with your free refills of soda/sweet tea. 🎉
For context, his wife Gabby was trained at Cordon Bleu, Paris and placed second on Masterchef.
AWESOME!
If you cant finish you take what is left home with you to enjoy later.
in your last 2 videos i've noticed the commentary has gotten a lot better. clean, concise and unique thoughts.
As a fellow Texan who eats terry blacks a lot I hope yall come here and try it y’all’s self, it is top notch and yall will salivate
The ribs you get there are probably pork ribs which are considerably smaller. But good
The food on the tray is about $125 to $150
Incorrect information.
Just so you know guys, they have all different kinds of barbecues all across the country.
You guys would definitely bless the United States with your visit... Would love to see you guys become Americans ❤
All beef ribs aren’t that big, those are specifically cut that way. Also, that whole plate is well over $120 mainly because of the beef rib and how much brisket they got, but the avg person wouldn’t order that each 😂. I’m in Houston but I’ve been there a few times
Yeah, if you got a beef back rib or chuck rib, it’s gonna be a lot smaller. Won’t be as good either, because the marbling isn’t the same…
They got two beef ribs, a LOT of meat and all the sides w/drinks? $200 easy
What they got definitely costed $300+
Can’t find beef ribs cut that size anywhere in Florida, and it drives me crazy.
My favorite thing to smoke.
Guys come to Texas and try some Real BBQ …..bring your Appetit. You can experience for your selves
13:18 I do like cornbread, and it is very easy to make.
Subscribed....love you guys.
But there’s a total of 5 of them that will finish it off.
You would certainly get your file a great southern food!!! and BBQ!!
I have a brother and sister who live in Texas. I live in New Zealand, need to go visit them. 🤤
5:00 as they often say, everything is bigger in Texas
it originally started in Lockhart, tex. but they do have other locations. New Braunfels, San Marcos
Beautiful, he's drinking a Shiner Bock!!!
Proud to be a Texan for many reasons and BBQ is one of them.
That was so good the camera-guy had to sit down to finish chewing it
Cornbread is often baked with molasses or honey in the dough.
TRUE 👍🏿
i do be saucing my turkey though. vinegar and red pepper and a touch of brown sugar. TX style sauce
Worked and lived in Texas for many years. The BBQ is awesome. You don't eat it every but yeah, when I was there at least once a week. It's so good.
Mericka !!!!!! That's all i can say 😂😂😂😂🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I mean for everything here, probably $80-$100 if you just got 1 of each (or a smaller amount than they got) and 1 of each side and dessert
Imagine how much peace could be achieved between nations if everyone just sampled American BBQ
You mean Texas bbq not America
Make it Halal and fly it into the middle east. Peace within 30 days.
Google the restaurant and check prices on their website
If you make it to Texas, you will love the BBQ. There is a place outside of Austin, Texas called 'The Salt Lick'. It has an all you can eat menu...I have been there many times. Terry Black's in Austin is also very good place, also is Franklin's BBQ, but you have to wait in line to eat, its that good
Memphis BBQ is my favorite! Much love from America!!
I am American, but we don’t have that BBQ restaurant in Florida, but when I can find beef ribs I always buy them, awesomely delicious. And the cut if the rib is either large or skinny!
You have to keep in mind, Texas is a destination location, based on the food alone. You will need to work out. 😁
I live in Newfoundland, I have yet to ever make it to the United States, but if and when I do, Texas and Terry Black's is on my list, excellent reaction
i live in cali and im drooling i need to go there
BRITS ON BRITS ON AMERICAN SOUTHERN FOOD IN TEXAS where Ribs and such are just WONDERFUL !!! GBjj
Also you must order either a sweat tea or a lemonade with BBQ.
Some of the other styles of BBQ are:
-Eastern Carolina-Style (coastal North Carolina and Virginia) - Throughout the Carolinas, barbecue is exclusively defined as being pork, though many restaurants also offer BBQ chicken.
Carolina but with a tomato ketchup and vinegar-based sauce
-South Carolina-Style - Similar preparation of E.
-Kansas City-Style - dry rub, then cooked with mixed oak and hickory wood smoke, finished with a thick, sweet tomato-based sauce)
-Memphis-Style - mostly made using pork, usually ribs and shoulders, though many restaurants will still serve beef and chicken.

Josh the one on left is also "The Korean Englishman" on TH-cam and Ollie the one on the right helps on that channel. What is Important about his wonder about flavor is his love of Korean BBQ and the difference between the two.
Love the video guys!
Currently there’s two street vendors with Michelin Stars, one in Singapore and one in Thailand.
Brisket is the toughest muscle on beef (bull or cow). You have to smoke it “low & slow”. Low is approximately 270°F, and slow could be anywhere between 8 -16 hours, depending on the size.
According to Terry Black's (they even have an app lol) they've served over 50,000,000 people from around the world.
I live in Texas we BBQ like this every weekend friends and family come over. I love BBQ.
I love watching people from UK, I am from USA but I feel like we have different foods and such but we are kind of... the same!
Hello from Texas!
Before beef cattle go to market they are transported to Feed Lots to get fattened up before being sold.
I really hope you guys come over and get a chance to get some BBQ in Texas!!!!!!! I'd love to see your video on it!!! Take care, cheers!
Watch the reaction from new Zealand family who also went to try Terry blacks not too long ago.
Terry Blacks is awesome but if you want to sample some of the best BBQ in Texas. Take a 40 minute drive to the city of Lockhart. Lockhart has three or four of the top BBQ locations in the country Ranked by the food network one year including the original Black's BBQ location. BTW Luling is just another 35 minutes south of Lockhart and you will find the birthplace of Buc ees and the largest one. as of 2024
that was NOT a typical menu item - that was something put together for them and their youtube channel - all the meat and sides, of course are available, however they just put together a huge testing plate of everything they make for them to respond to - so if you go.. you'll get a rib or some brisket or sausages and a smaller portion of a side or two - you won't walk away with a huge tray piled up like that unless you really pay up for it
In California those the meat portions would be around $100.00 + USD per person.
You’d love Austin ,, it’s eclectic and funky and liberal party town
When in Austin go to Franklins BBQ !
Be prepared for hours in line though , and it’s that way every day , ! I believe my sis said a 7 hour wait , so go early !
I'm I'm Texas. Best time to bbq or brisket is during a hurricane
Bought BBQ is expensive but well worth it. It's sold by the pound so it varies. But at Terry Black's it ranges from $25 - $35/ pound depending on what specifically you get. Sides vary as well. Other BBQ places can be a bit cheaper and others more.
The sauce enhances the flavor
The cost varies by items and size of the order and marketplace. You can look at the Terry Black's menu online to get a general idea. The price will likely change by the time you visit.
I regret not taking the time with my grandpa to learn how he smoked brisket and sausage before he died. God it was so good
My lil town has 2 BBQ places that have been around since the 50's and still wood fire their stuff and when they sell out they close lol other all days have popped up but not as good
With themamount of food you're talking about there, here in Corpus Christi, Tx it would be about $30.00, however that much food is definitely a shared thing, so cut the cost in half per person.
Love how Fats licked her lips the second the ribs came on screen 0:03 lol
Hello from San Antonio Texas
I've been to Terry Blacks 3 times. The 3 best meals I've even had. My last time there a few months ago cost $60. And I was trying to be careful
I cant wait to see your reaction, everybody from another country trying barbeque here in the states has had a food orgasm, make sure you bring your appetite to try different places just like ( Your NZ Family )
