Thanks in part to your Yow vs Smoothstar video I couldn't be happier I got a Yow (Pipe) as my first surfskate. Honestly I wouldn't discourage anyone starting with either a Yow or SS. I would certainly continue to stress these are NOT for long rides and you don't need much more than a small parking lot or even a decent size driveway to enjoy these. Loving mine, thanks again.
Great info, thanks for sharing. It's always so tough to say "not for beginners" or "for beginners" because everyone's situation is different. I'm glad you like your Pipe. That was my first YOW and I love it. Shred onnn!!!
I live in a rural area where I often don't have a means of transportation other than a dirtbike or my yow and while sitting or standing it has been relatively stable during some gnarly hills as long as you keep your weight back and stay edge to edge I've gone a solid 45737383038573830739mph on it once and it didn't freak out despite our roads being poorly maintained so I'd say it is actually pretty decent for cruises and joy rides haha.
Surfskating has gotten so popular, not only are prices rising, but scalpers started monopolizing the local stock. I live in San Diego and I went to a couple local skate shops looking for a surfskate. Not only were they sold out, but I got the same story from each location: not long after they received their new shipment of surfskates, some people came in to buy their whole stock. The owners of one of the shops said they saw their surf skates on sale on eBay marked up $300+ And I can’t find a used surfskate on FB marketplace selling for less than the original value. Things are seriously messed up right now and all I wanna do is carve my local bowl :(
Dang really?! Yeah it's so crazy how popular they got this past year. Hopefully these companies can figure out restocking quicker so these resellers don't dominate the market
Great video, just a comment regarding cruising with Yow - after a short period of getting use to it, its great for cruising. maybe the arica is a bit short but after cruising with YOW dark for the last 9 month i can totaly say its working great. the small stones are actully less of a headach then on a "normal" cruiser because the system handles it better then with no spring system at all.

Great video! I first got myself a Triton from Carver with CX trucks as an introduction to surfskating 2 years ago. I am not going to get rid of it anytime soon, even though this year I treated myself with a Yow JB33 with Meraki system. Boy! The cruising with this board is amazing! But as you said, in the park it can be tricky. I really like your vids and style. I was thinking of buying a carver c7 as a first surfskate, I can't find any, everything seems to be out of stock and/or hella expensive.
Hi Words! Based on my (humble) experience, I wanted to get a Carver with C7 trucks, as one of my friends. I had no knowledge at all of all the different types of trucks, and I got (a bit by accident) one Carver Triton equipped with CX. This was my 1st real surfskate, and at the beginning I thought I had made a mistake, but then I started to use it a lot on pumptracks, and now there is no way I could get rid of it. This said, I got a Yow with Meraki system a few months ago, and it is just fantastic as well. Different sensations, and so smooth... but I do not dare to do everything I do with my Carver with it. Point is: if you only cruise in the streets and ride small slopes in the skatepark and such, go for the C7 system. If you want a bit more action and comfort on pumptracks for example, I would consider the CX. And if you adjust the front truck a bit loose, you are coming close to the surf movement. Not as sharp as C7, but nice sensations for sure. Hope it gave you a little more insight. Keep on riding 🤙

I got my Yow Pipe just 3 weeks ago and I'm so in love with it's system. Since you ride YOW the most I think you could do a review video next on the new wheels that YOW themselves have created (The URA wheels). Been hearing some negative feedback on it such as wheel deformation, losing grip, slow speed etc. This makes me concerned as I definitely want to explore more YOWs next time but if the wheels are not up to its usual standard then that's sad :( Thankfully my YOW Pipe was still shipped with the Cinetic wheels. Cheers for your content anyway :D
Very informative videos! I have a "simple" question to ask and I'll try to put it as straight as possible: in your experience, what is the best surfskate for cruising and long-distance pumping? (no tricks, no bowl, no aerials). BTW: my ideal wb is between 17 and 19 inches. Thank you very much!
I got my yow pyzel a week ago and it so fun!!. I carve for hours and the turns feel so much like surfing and it keeps speed when you do snaps. Only knitpick is the wheels burn quickly.. probably bc im doing snaps on it every 5 seconds.
Stoked to hear that! I completely agree - they're a blast. That's a good piece of info on the wheels though... I haven't worn mine down too much since I do lowkey carving in parking lots. Seems like YOW is pretty receptive to feedback though, so hopefully they address that issue
Hey! Question. I bought a carver green room CX 34’fe zumies in June and fell in love with it. Ready to get a Yow and I’m very much a park king lot cruiser style skater. No long distances because well New Jersey roads suck up north here in Essex. Can you recommend a yow equivalent to the carver greenroom?
Can you do a review on Impala longboard? I want to know what you think about it and besides that, I'm still contemplating on what brand to buy considering the budget I have and I happen to stumble upon it.. I'm also a huge fan of your videos and reviews so I trust your judgement 😊
Hey thanks for the suggestion and supporting the channel! I'm not sure if I'll be able to get to that one since it can get expensive buying all boards. I did check out their website and it doesn't look too bad for the price
Dude, please do video about beercan boards, i recently just got their 30 inch pintail board, and it works great for me. Just kinda wantin to see a more experienced rider to put in his 2 cents ig😂👌
Hi, if you have problems with the YOW adapter not springing back as you used to feel I don' t really believe it is the spring. I pumped mine uphill until I broke my spring and there was NO change whatsoever. But i recently I ruined my bearing, and then something happened as you decribed. first spring back was reduced, then it got stuck in a tilted position and I almost fell. Just buy a replacement axial ball bearing - 51100. They cost like three dollars the set of two. No need to buy the overpriced bearing set from YOW.
I'm riding an S5 yow surfskate for 6 month now and I love it !! I was wondering when do you think I should change the coil spring and the bearings of the board ? PS: I live near the beach (sand ...) + my board have been cracked on its 5th day by a car (but it holds until then ahah). Love your content, big support from France
That's a good question because I still haven't swapped out any springs or bearings yet. But I will probably swap out the springs once the resistance noticeably fades... And the bearings if they rust. As long as it's not affecting your riding, then I don't see a need to replace. That's a bummer about your board! Thanks for supporting Eliot. Have a great weekend!
My Coil snapped after a year and beforehand I could not really feal a difference. I now have one or two replacement coils lying around. I do pump up quite steep Hills, that seems to stress the spring more and that is when it broke. But in my case it was pretty uneventful, not comparable to a kingpin breaking on a long distance pumper. The bearings hold even longer, just inspect and lube them. In my case the metal cage holding the ball bearings degraded and the adapter got stuck. You can buy 2 standard replacement axial 51100 bearings at Amazon for like 5 euros.
What about this Yow where you can lock the pin for cruising? I have a hamboard Pescadito. I’m trying to find a better combo for both cruising and carving. Pescadito is too heavy lol. I think Yow is for me but really after researching my brain is mush.
@@concrete-waves the s4 spring is a bit lower set, so I’m not sure it will be able to fit in the Meracki. Let me know if you have any luck with it or need some springs to experiment with. I’d be happy to send a few to you. I bought them thinking I would do the same, and couldn’t get the s4 spring to fit in the Meracki. Maybe needs more tinkering...
@Shred Shack What's your height? I'm considering buying a Yow Arica as my first surfskate and curious how height relates to the wheelbase and comfort. You seem to be super comfy on that thing and look about the same height as me. I've also been torn between a Yow with Meraki trucks or a Carver with C7, which would you say is best for surf training? I'll mostly be riding in the street and doing flatland/small hills carving and maneuvers on days I'm not able to surf (hopefully find a bowl to ride occasionally too). Would love to get your opinion, thanks!
Haha appreciate that man. We're still testing a bunch of different materials / designs for our merch, so it's not ready yet. The wait will be worth it though
Where I live (Europe), surfshops stock a lot of Yow's and they are super easy to find. They are fun, no doubt, but very expensive and not that versatile. I still prefer cruisers.
Hi mate. I’m interested in your comment about S5 spring resistance. I have an S5 and it’s waaaaay looser than my 77#, c7 (closer in style than my 66 or cx). How did you determine it had got looser and how were Yow dealing with this?
I'm stuck between a Snappers and a Pukas rush, same wheelbase but huge difference in deck concave and shape. They're obvs impossible get rn anyway but I'm banking on a restock and just wanna know which one to buy. Any tips? I've been longboarding and *trying* to surf for a few years (to little progress, ngl) but I'm a 5ft 7 gal so I think the 17" will do me fine, think the rush is easier to come by though, snappers gets snapped up( sorry pun lol) real quick but it seems maybe the rush is less popular for a reason (other than being pink?)
Lol, nice pun there! I have the Snappers but haven't tried the Pukas rush. What I can say is that I love the shape of the snappers because it has an aggressive concave to lock into carves. What type of riding are you looking to do? Do you know if you like concave at all?
Hello! I have a question about wheels for surfskating. What duro would be best, if you are looking for a wheels to be used mostly on semi-rough pavement, but that you will take to a skatepark about once a week?
I like the shape of the Arica better than the Pipe since it's a little wider and has slightly more concave. Although I might switch back to my Snappers because that has the most aggressive concave and really locks in when doing harder carving. If you want more concave, then I'd recommend the Snappers. A lot of people that shred bowls use the Snappers
I disagree here with using a YOW for long distance cruising. I have a Yow Malibu 36” with Meraki trucks, only thing I did is put 70mm 78a wheels (orangantang) and Zealous Ceramic bushings and it rides like a charm, I can commute to work 5km away
I appreciate you sharing your experience. It's definitely doable but from a functionality standpoint, I think most people are better off with a lower to the ground, more stable RKP/TKP setup. But there are no rules and I'm stoked to hear it's working for you!
the Meraki with the new Carver decks would probably be the best setup. Still not the hugest fan of YOW or SmoothStar decks. When is the reviews of the new Carver stuff coming ? the new decks look great and a bunch of new ones. New Yago Dora with the Meraki trucks is what I want to try.
I've been hearing a lot of people say that. I understand not being a fan of Smoothstar decks, but why aren't you a fan of the YOW decks? My favorite YOW deck is their snappers because of the concave. I'd love to review new Carvers... it's just so hard to get them before they go out of stock
Loving the channel. Do you have a preference for the Snappers vs Arica? Curious if you find the concave of the Snappers fatiguing for flat land playing around. Keep up the good work!
I ordered the Meraki clone trucks with hardware and risers from Aliexpress for only $43. Took about 2 weeks to get to Utah from China. They're awesome and virtually identical to OEM Meraki for less than 1/4 the price. The OEM Meraki springs are interchangeable so easy to replace spring if needed.

Interesting, thanks for this info! I'll have to buy more axial ball bearings and test it out
I'm riding an S5 yow surfskate for 6 month now and I love it !!
@@robsonrobson4999 Dang you're dropping some super valuable info. Really appreciate you helping out!
Can you recommend the "arica" for beginners too? Thought of "The armatraian", but the arica has a nice width!
Keep up the great work!!
P.S.
Do you think ripstick experience would help with any potential surf skate learning difficulty?
What about this Yow where you can lock the pin for cruising? I have a hamboard Pescadito. I’m trying to find a better combo for both cruising and carving. Pescadito is too heavy lol. I think Yow is for me but really after researching my brain is mush.
Ah yes , another Quality video!
Thanks for showing up again and supporting. Appreciate you!
Great video i was about picking a surfskate i found a brand called Long Island Their prices are decent but i want a feedback about that brand.
Could you do a whole review on the waterborne surfskate?
You should do a video on LEAN board.
Great video! Thank you! Have you ever tried to put an S4 spring in the Meracki trucks for that looser feel?
Thanks! And I haven't tried that, but maybe I will do that soon. Good suggestion!
@@concrete-waves the s4 spring is a bit lower set, so I’m not sure it will be able to fit in the Meracki. Let me know if you have any luck with it or need some springs to experiment with. I’d be happy to send a few to you. I bought them thinking I would do the same, and couldn’t get the s4 spring to fit in the
Meracki.
Where can I get your merch!!!! also geometry can wait, i got priorities
Haha appreciate that man. We're still testing a bunch of different materials / designs for our merch, so it's not ready yet. The wait will be worth it though
Aweosme job mate. Really good!! Keep it up
Best review channel!
Really appreciate that, thank you!
Send me one of these I want to fly a skateboard simulator.
Número Da Casa 171
Where I live (Europe), surfshops stock a lot of Yow's and they are super easy to find.
They are fun, no doubt, but very expensive and not that versatile. I still prefer cruisers.
I feel ya! They're definitely not for everyone
Will you make some tutorial videos on surf skating maneuvers/tricks?
Possibly! If enough people want it. I don't do many tricks though lol
@@concrete-waves even only just the basic would be great though, it would be great especially with your video style
Hi mate. I’m interested in your comment about S5 spring resistance. I have an S5 and it’s waaaaay looser than my 77#, c7 (closer in style than my 66 or cx). How did you determine it had got looser and how were Yow dealing with this?
Ever check out the old Grombiz trucks?
Never heard of them until now and just googled... wow! I would love to try those lol
I was lucky enough to come across a set, I’m more than happy to loan out my board so you can try out a “retro” review of surf skates
Would you be interested in looking into arbors new lineup?
I would love to do that... it just gets expensive buying everything haha
Hello! I have a question about wheels for surfskating. What duro would be best, if you are looking for a wheels to be used mostly on semi-rough pavement, but that you will take to a skatepark about once a week?
can just buy builtins, not sure if they are still around -
What about the Arica 33" deck? Do like the shape and concave better than the pipe? Would you recommend it over the Snapper's deck?
I like the shape of the Arica better than the Pipe since it's a little wider and has slightly more concave. Although I might switch back to my Snappers because that has the most aggressive concave and really locks in when doing harder carving. If you want more concave, then I'd recommend the Snappers. A lot of people that shred bowls use the Snappers
@@concrete-waves Thank you for your reply, the Snapper's seems to be a great deck to complement the Pipe
Hi! What are the different between the decks? Some of them are “performance” what does that mean?
Love this channel!
Thanks Sarah! Always appreciate the support
Awesome & Thanks :)
Thanks for showing up, watching, and dropping a comment Krishnan! Appreciate you
the Meraki with the new Carver decks would probably be the best setup.
@@concrete-waves Just looked at YOW new 2021 lineup and it is the best stuff they have done to date. SmoothStar is lost
Great review again
Appreciate that!
Thanks for the review. Could you tell me the hanger size of Meraki trucks? Is it 160mm?
That's a good question - let me go check and I'll get back to you
@@concrete-waves
Thanks. I appreciate that. The YOW website doesn’t say anything about the truck size.
@@niku30504 Just measured and yes hanger size is 160mm. Axle to axle is just under 9inches
@@concrete-waves
Thank you very much! That means Meraki is same as my Carver CX4 at 160mm.
can you talk about longboard squeaking? i just got my longboard yestrday and something is squeaking
One more great vidéo,thanks !
Thanks for supporting! Appreciate that
I’m looking to get a new longboard but I don’t know what to get my budget is $150 and I don’t really want to get an Amazon board. Any recommendations?
You should look at brands like Arbor, Landyachtz, Globe, Sector 9
Sorry to ask where did you get that board Arica 33 right Its art and its a beauty
I got it directly from YOW Surf
thanks
do you have wheelbite with this very deck (10.5) inch ?
Loving the channel. Do you have a preference for the Snappers vs Arica? Curious if you find the concave of the Snappers fatiguing for flat land playing around. Keep up the good work!
Would like to hear your thoughts on this too please
Maybe one day I will but YOW board but now I don’t want to waist my time and money to find one available
I feel ya. They're so hard to find nowadays, it's crazy
Hi! How about riding straight and picking up some speed? Do you feel unstable?
It can definitely feel unstable if you're not used to a surfskate, but for me, I'm used to it and it feels fine
I just noticed that your arms look kinda big. Especially your biceps. Do you do any kind of training for that?
Thanks man, yeah I try to lift 4-5x a week. Nothing crazy, just a push/pull /leg routine. I've noticed ab exercises really help with balance too
Totally agree that YOWs have gotten way too expensive! Skating isn't meant to cost this much. Carver pricing is more realistic IMO.
Yeah... plus shipping and it just gets wild
I love ur reviews keep it up :)
Thanks so much! Means a lot to hear that!
@@concrete-waves can u test the atom drop through longboard please?
I was skating with these yowtrucks 45kmh down the hill so please don't try to tell us you gonna fly offf. 🤟🏼
So those attachments make it a ripstik.

One word for this vid: YOW
YOWWWW
I'm torn between a surfskate and a freestyle longboard
The struggle is real lol. I'm a huge fan of surfskates, as you can obviously tell, but it really is personal preference 😂
You should do a q&a on Instagram
That's a solid idea!
Can you replace the springs and bearings of clone meraki with the original yow springs and bearings?
That's what heavy skaters like me need saves the knees.
haha it's a fun type of board without risking injuries
internet was down, but im trying to be early lol
Ahaha no worries man. Just appreciate you sticking around and always showing support
Totally not watching during class 😆
