This is GORGEOUS! I love this era of The Cult! Best dancing ever from Ian! I am obsessed with Jamie too. For everyone who doesn't like the Electric album, I always think it was inevitable. Watching performances from The Cult from before 87, they were always a rock n roll band live, including as SDC. I feel Electric was a natural progression, although yes it had that mega production for a US market. Either way, for me from Dreamtime to Electric they are just such a special band, and remain so underrated. The Cult will always be my favourite band ❤️
This is THE CULT at their very best! Nigel a beast on the drums, Jamie rocking out like a good bassist should, Billy's chiming guitar work on the Falcon and Ian dressed like some crazed Paris Gypsy! Amazing! Thanks for the upload! Oh and GO WEST is so fricking amazing!!!
stumbled across this and it's great to read so many comments regarding Nigel, like many others here i loved his drumming and he was an inspiration for me learning as a kid 30 years ago, the cult were at their best with him in. I still drum and I still love his drumming so it's great the internet is about and i've managed to fill in some of the gaps in his story. His drumming is so good on the live at the marquee record and the resurrection joe old grey whistle test, i would say it's even more on point than the studio records. That drum solo on resurrection joe is tricky, clever and always played so beautifully, he used to make it look so easy. then there's the drumming on 'bonebag' which shows how versatile and technical he could be. I had a bootleg of a full gig at the hammersmith palais from this time which had a few more of the tracks that would appear on 'love' on with his drumming on, they sounded fantastic, he made the songs bounce. it's such a shame what transpired. RIP Nigel, always one of my drumming heroes.

This is in the period right before "Love" was released and they still had their Adam & the Ants/Bow Wow Wow influences -- tribal drums, exotic costumes, Gretsch guitar sound, etc.
Great footage. Real pity about Nigel. Looked like he'd just arrived from gym here though which made me laugh. Have a sneaking suspicion Ian might have been on something here! What an amazing period of music for them.
I am responding to a very old post, but didn't Nigel leave the band literally within days of this performance? I think "She Sells Sanctuary" was already charting at this time. I can remember this precise time period fairly well in my life as it was so chaotic.
I saw the Cult numerous times from directly in front of Ian. First row center. I was shocked how loud his voice is! The shows were loud of course, as was the crowd. And I had loud stage monitors 5 feet away, turned away from me of course. But Ian's voice was SO much louder than everything else from 7 feet away! I'd hate to have to record him in the studio. I agree. Been listening back to the Dreamtime LP leading up to the recent Death Cult gigs in the UK & Ian's voice is way to loud in the mix. The Love album is a better recording but lacks the genius of Nigel Preston unfortunately

Right....Sanctuary and Resurrection Joe were both released as singles, I believe. Then, that latter part of summer, Steve Brown produced the rest of the LOVE record with them. This is one of the first gigs of the tour. They might have had already recorded a B side or 2 (like Judith or No. 13) but I cannot be sure. This would be one of Preston's last shows, too.
Resurrection was i believe, November'84, and Sanctuary was i think May/ June '85. Yeah, The Snake and No. 13 were out with Sanctuary. December '84 for Ressurection Joe (2 S and 1 R). I think you are confusing Dreamtime and Love - He was most certainly on Dreamtime, but Nigel wasn't in a fit state to play (booze and heroin) on Love so they roped in Big Country's Mark Brzezicki to play in the sessions.
