At 2:35, Arin's soft little "...puuuuut a record on" like an embarrassed child is probably one of my all time favorite Grumps moments that will always make me laugh.
Just the way Arin switches back and forth from barely able to remember more than a couple notes and then remembering actual sections, reminds me of a radio with low batteries trying to catch a station with poor signal.
That's a pretty good description of Arin's brain in general. Whenever a puzzle or something comes up, he always ends up making me scream either "how the hell did he get that?" or "how the hell does he not get that?"
No joke, the next NSP "Under the Covers" album NEEDS to have an "Old 45's" cover featuring Arin on the vocals somehow. The universe needs this to survive.
This has to be at least one of my top 10 favorite Grumps moments. Hearing Arin THINK he has it as he's singing excitedly and then realizing he DOESN'T have it when the big moment comes makes me laugh like nothing else.
It's not a cover, more of an original song using some of the voice capture from this video, but Master Sword created this banger th-cam.com/video/AfiitLNGMp8/w-d-xo.html
@@Hijinx1997 I'm p sure Starbomb stopped making music tho :c If Arin were to sing it with NSP he'd probably just be in as a cameo style like in Dinosaur Laser Fight
In Arin’s defense, “pop a nickel in” is essentially the same as “put a record on.” Edit: Also, if he had put “old 45’s” before “put a record on” it would have been pretty darn close.
This was me with "What you Know" by Two Door Cinema Club for, like, a month. The _only_ part I knew was the main guitar riff, and lord knew I wasn't a good enough singer to SoundHound it. I had no choice but to sit in the agony of almost-knowing until it came on the radio at a restaurant.
Being from Northern Ireland, Dad used to play that first album TONNES when it first released, and in September, having not heard the song for a decade, I spent the majority of a work shift trying to reconstruct the chorus from: “Let’s make this happen girl, (kljaefhlafhafliaefhiaef;osfhafafihadfilh???) Youoooooooooooo, (further gibberish)” Glad to see this experience is shared lol
There's an old Married With Children episode that does a similar plot with Al Bundy trying to find ANYONE who can recognize and name a song from the brief 3 note snippet that is all he can remember and hum of it.
This is one of my absolute favorite clips. First time I play Chromeo for anyone, I find this bit and play it for them and explain this is what made me discover Chromeo. Love this bit.
Everyone talks about how good Arin stumbling his way through remembering this song is, but the bit at 1:40 where Arin goes, "Let go of me. L E T G O." sticks in my brain and has become a go-to phrase for some weird reason. Probably . . . because I've watched these clips too much . . . .
I just did as Dan suggested, and having listened to the song and then Arin's rendition, my only response is a very exasperated "*Arin*." Specially the one at 1:09.
My late best friend and I were listening to this moment several months ago and laughing so hard. Then he was like, "Alright, let's check out the original," and I was like, "Nah, I'm good." I dunno if he ever did, but I definitely did not. 😅
this was such a cathartic moment for me because I've done this. Like I know I know a song and how it goes but can't for the life of me actually remember how it goes
This scene along with Arin trying to remember the lyrics to Electric Feel (during super Mario sunshine) by MGMT has earned them memorable places on my Spotify playlist
i just want to say thank you to game grumps to introducing me to chromeo because theyve become a definite favorite of mine… but almost nothing in my life will ever beat realizing that ‘put a record on’ is fucking NOWHERE in old 45s ☠️☠️
Plot twist: Arin just really wanted to hear Dan sing. And Dan can't help but want to sing the song correctly if he hears Arin trying to sing a song and not remember it.
*Puts on Arin glasses* Urm. It's actually "You think romace is getting ooooold.... nanananana old 45s, put a record on and it all comes back to meeeee~" (But seriously, that song is banger. And Arin being #confidentlywrong will never cease to entertain me.)
I discovered Game Grumps ironically, because I'm a Chromeo fan and saw GG mentioned in the comments of the Old 45s video. I was like "What is this sh*t?" A couple months later, my love convinced me to watch them with her since she was a fan. Strangely, NSP played the weekend after Chromeo played the same venue here in Las Vegas🤣
Arin: *mumbles incoherently*
Dan: “yeah that’s it”
Lol gets me every time
Every time Old 45's comes on the radio, all I can think of is Arin singing it horribly
"Put a record on" 😔🤘
Chromeo comes on the radio where you're from? I only know about them because I listen to them and because of this clip.

Yes.
They'd need to be backed by someone other than TWRP, who I believe have said they don't cover anything past the 80s.
Arin hasn't been the same since he hit it big time with this jam. Fame changes a man
I liked who he was before the fame 😔

Oh absolutely. The pure confidence, then the beat of silence right into the unsure mumbling. Kills me every single time.
There is a entire Cromartie Highschool episode about a song that goes *"hmm hmm hmm"* and the dialogue plays out EXACTLY like this.
There's an old Married With Children episode that does a similar plot with Al Bundy trying to find ANYONE who can recognize and name a song from the brief 3 note snippet that is all he can remember and hum of it.

The only version of this song that matters. 🥰
This always reminds me of Dan's story about singing hymns on Hanukkuh, mumbling for most of it but singing the parts he knew super confidently.
I will show this clip not to just my children, but to even my grandchildren. I will make sure to keep this part of history.

I was JUST thinking about this.
This is like 4 minutes of watching a man's brain die.
Oh god that's the hardest I've ever laughed at a Grumps clip before!
The game is in such awe of Arin's singing, it muted itself out of respect.
