That's cool. It's good how they included things like the Leopard Woman who we never got to see in the heavily-edited film. Actually, my brother and I met Bob Keen, who did the make-up fx. He took us on a tour of Pinewood Studios where we got to see some Hellraiser props and the dog's head from Candyman. Wow!
The game worked much better with screen-by-screen scrolling on the 8-bit computers. The sound on those 8-bit versions was quite atmospheric too, but the sound effects in this Amiga version were pure comedy - "hmm since we've got sample playback at our disposal, what shall we use? How about an owl, a bell and some thunder? Good idea! Shall we subtly reduce the playback volume to ambient levels? No way! HOO! BONG! EXPLOSION!" and then your eardrums are burst :D
And what about the character movement? Is this necessary for a game character to those dumb flips for no reason? Why not make a proper fluid movement and jumps like in Prince of Persia?
I had both Interactive Movie and The Action Game versions of The Nightbreed on my Amiga 500. The Interactive Movie was OK, because it reminded me of the old Cinemaware games, but i think that The Action Game is better. I also had the Commodore 64 version of this game, but for some reason, it wasn't as good as this Amiga version. And sadly, i never finished any of those formats, because they were seriously confusing. Also i saw that Clive Barker movie, where canadian horror movie director David Cronenberg starred in. However i never had read the novel, Cabal. And hey, thanx for a legendary Amiga longplay video, ARetroSyndaxEra! 😺👍🕹️
Well I have just watched a Llonplay of NightBreed on the C64, and can honestly say the C64 version is way better. Music on c64 is much better, sure the GFX isn't as good as the Amiga. But the sound on the Amiga version is just AWFUL, incredibly annoying, and the gameplay doesn't look much better. I did play and complete the c64 version of nightbreed, but was lucky never to own this rubbish.
Sound is really glitchy, when I clicked back to main menu after completing the first level all the sounds looped over and over. Bad Ice Cream 3 game on hudgames
A fair assumption, and one I thought at first as well, but here's what's unusual: "Splatterhouse" was released in arcades in 1988 and the movie/game "Nightbreed" wasn't released until 1990.
As a wee kid I played hours and hours of this game yet never once did the first level like that 🤣🤣🤣 litterally ran to the end amd put me into the world map lol
@@Emulous79 great video though, I'm considering posting one on the amiga robocop 3 game calling out if it could possibly be the world's first fps shooter lol followed up with amigas Hunter being the first gta style open world sandbox! Below average? It came out on the bloody amiga ! The fact it had words back then was astounding 🤣🤣 the only game I can remember to beat this was from I can remember the very first 1st person shooter robo cop 3
This was a game I had, but it wouldn't load on my Amiga. Decided all these years later to see what I missed out on. Good lord! It looks relentless! Like a typical terrible euro platformer where absolutely everything is trying to kill you all of the time.
lol most of the sound efx were robbed from the other game the interactive movie one \ good game up to the walking around 4 hours in tunnels until the ledge sections which were unplayable lol good old days back in 1990
Looks like it's been drawn with a photo-paint program, very blocky for the ST and speech / samples crackling, not the best for an ST that's for sure. Well done for doing the whole thing!
Actually you could be forgiven for thinking this is the ST version. The graphics are exactly the same and even the sound samples are similar. The only difference is that the ST version is flick screen.
Then in 1989 the Amiga began to finally shrug off the ST ports and finally show us what the machine was capable of,...AND then the ST became known as a watered-down poor man's Amiga ;-)
More or less the same version as the Atari ST, even right down to the sound effects. Prefer flip screen for this kind of game to be honest, it seems to work better. As someone already said, it works better on the C64 version as well.
The game's a bit deceptive IMO. It seems rock hard at first, but it's really quite easy once you figure out what you need to do. I think the C64 version is harder and more annoying (better music though). The look of Boone's kick makes me laugh. I'm trying to imagine how the movie would have gone if Boone had defeated Decker and everyone else by repeatedly kicking them in the nuts.
I visited these guys in Sheffield when they were developing this game. They were called Painting by Numbers (Impact Software).

Yeah the sfx were a bit of a joke. Also, the snake's tail on the titlescreen looks like its going up Lori's nose.
The walking sound effect sounds like a horse galloping and the punch like a bicycle honking
Why has it got only 1 channel of sound?
And what about the character movement? Is this necessary for a game character to those dumb flips for no reason? Why not make a proper fluid movement and jumps like in Prince of Persia?
UH! UH! UH! THUD! THUD! UH! UH! DOONNGGG!!!
LOL!
This game scared the shit out of me as a kid 😮
i loved playing this game if it loaded
I remember this game. It was endlessly confusing back then.
I lot of games I could never figure as a kid.

I've seen two versions of the film and also read the book. Weird stuff. Thanks for watching :)

@@Se7en20082008 Indeed. Amiga ports weren't the best for some odd reason.

What a pile of awesomeness!
Thunderstorm in deep dungeon? Thank you for video.
Ha, I didn't think of that. I think their home had more than a few holes in the ceiling ;)
I can't unsee the Dr. Phil scorpions
Such a mess...
That's our OCEAN
this game is real hell
Well, it is mostly set in a fiery underground.
i think Splatterhouse was born after playing this
A fair assumption, and one I thought at first as well, but here's what's unusual: "Splatterhouse" was released in arcades in 1988 and the movie/game "Nightbreed" wasn't released until 1990.
I had this game but I didn't understand anything about it. Now, watching the longplay, I still don't understand a shit.
Same

Below the average game, but the music is outstanding.
outstanding, mean they kick it out standing off the door, is a sample loop not a mod

Are the Amiga games available on MAME as well?
MAME emulates arcade machines only as far as I know.
@@Emulous79 You can get all the consoles as well now
@@RPRsChannel I didn't know. I use WinUAE for the Amiga.

Hmm, like Druid. That was relentless with the constantly regenerating enemies.
Never played but this guy looked like he was getting his ass handed to him.
Still butthurt. Of course, Barker would know more about that than me.

I got stuck in the tunnels, too.
Dat needs a remake
stunning game
Like the movie. I've yet to see the workprint though I hear the quality is shit.

Ha lo, sorry i meant the amiga, I was watching an ST game just now that's why ;-)
Actually you could be forgiven for thinking this is the ST version. The graphics are exactly the same and even the sound samples are similar. The only difference is that the ST version is flick screen.
That was true of some Amiga games. A lot of them were ported from the ST. Take Wizball or Black Lamp, they look identical.
Then in 1989 the Amiga began to finally shrug off the ST ports and finally show us what the machine was capable of,...AND then the ST became known as a watered-down poor man's Amiga ;-)

just like the movie
Err, sort of.
The only video game that takes place in Alberta... besides nhl games
Lots of things different. Dr Decker was never callled "The Mask", and the breed also never turned on Aaron Boone like they do in this game lol.
@@jmcburney658 I'm pretty sure there was an arcade game based in Calgary too. Winter Olympics? I could be wrong though. Again though, sports related.
A 1990 game that use sampled loop instead of a mod file???? ARGH
Lol giant grenades
Such a stupid game. Nice graphics, though.
This isn't the Amiga Nightbreed I remember. It isn't even close to it. O.o
You may have played the interactive movie version instead.
There were two nightbreed games: that arcade (this) and the interactive movie

C giocavo al cbm 64, bello.
worst ending ever
At least it HAD an ending. Some just say "game over" or loop to the title-screen. The C64 version's ending is much better, though.
Amstrad cpc version also has a good ending
C64 ending is actually the same with cpc.
Ci giocavo sul 64, non un gioco indimenticabile....ma cmq carino!
Better than the adventure game but average at best.
Wow seems like a terrible game, everything tries to kill you on screen without relief, and hardly any way to avoid them
Very brown
Trash game
Crap game.
Looks nice, though.
