Long land borders that required large standing armies, 'strong' central governments (ie absolute monarchies) - power from the top. The UK has had a very different historical experience. Of course you can wave a German flag! European Unity and free movement via the EU and EEA means that there are loads of Germans and other Europeans living in London. I heard that Brazil declared three days of mourning following the death of our dear, late, lamented, Queen Elizabeth II. Very thoughtful. Thank you.
that makes no sense you are brazilian not englandian you should sing God Save the Rain forest not the queen! you know?
Britain will never fall.
thank you, I am german but love british traditions and her people. Keep on Britain
I am italian but I would be english! When I see this I cry every time!God save the Queen !!! I Love UK so much❤❤❤
Me too, it always moves me when I hear the Jerusalem and anthem and I am full-blood Dutch.
Italy is a wonderful country too
Gloria Vigna, I was recently told that many Italians see the UK as a third world country, is this correct!?.

This is beautiful, and not just patriotic.
It is heavenly to see so many flags just not only the Union Flag and British flags but those form around the World.

Jerusalem always bring tears to rain down upon my face. Jerusalem is the anthem that makes our great British lion roar for all its worth. May we never forget this masterpiece.
Queen of Australia too. I love her.
Jerusalem gives me goosebumps. I admire the british heritage they've given to humanity. Respect from Colombia.
Love seeing the German flags in the crowd. I'm from neither country but I'm always warmed when I see Germans and Britons getting along.

@@rolandsievers1610
That is very sad - if patriotism in Germany has been abandoned to extremists, then it must be reclaimed without delay as we did in England a decade or so ago when we took St George's flag off the extremists.
Gordon Smith it’s sad.. if I were German, which I am not, I would be proud of my country’s achievements, what other country has been able to take over 90% of Europe in such a small period of time with such little problems, call me a Nazi or whatever but that.. that is quite something
Let alone a country which had been absolutely demolished by ww1 and the aftermath which was the treaty of Versailles, a country which went from being a crumbling mess with no hope to one of the worlds leading world powers in a few years..
This is what the European Union does now, take away a proud mans patriotism.. so sad.
God save Germany and give my German brothers hope, the best friends

Germany is a continental county with a history that informs the present.
Long land borders that required large standing armies, 'strong' central governments (ie absolute monarchies) - power from the top.
The UK has had a very different historical experience. In the modern era an absolute church and an absolute monarchy were both swept aside.
It's this difference that has made the continental countries more easily fit the 'top down' model of the EU and the discomfort with which that pattern is viewed in the UK.
ps: You identify yourself as "an Englishman"
? explain why you are using American English - 'plows instead of 'ploughs'
I’d love Jerusalem as my country’s (England) National Anthem
So wonderful! Admire British of their solidarity and tradition, so proud.
I was there and after Jerusalem I just cried...
Hello all our Brits so proud to see our flags flying just brill stuff. Happiness is the greatest gift of all freedom is what we want and freedom we sure have God bless us all the white cliffs of Dover we are coming home..
RULE BRITANNIA.... CHEERS FROM CANADA!!!!! GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!!!!
This is very moving to me as an American to hear and honor the Brits singing their anthem and other songs that are meaningful to them as a people and a nation. Happy Brexit!
Thanks Sally...but an awful lot of Brits don't like the idea of Brexit ! and a lot of us like 'Ode To Joy' as much as 'Land Of Hope and Glory' ...does'nt make us less British or Patriotic just means we want to remain with our European brothers and sisters.
@@anthonyflynn1600
Haven't you realised by now that even if the people of Europe are 'our brothers and sisters' the EU isn't a friendly power?
It's an undemocratic, corrupt, dictatorship.
What's the point of you singing Land of Hope and Glory when you're quite content to see this country a mere vassal state.

Since when has Great Britain been removed from the continent of Europe?
Brits didn't vote for Brexit because they had suddenly taken a dislike to our European neighbours.

"Jerusalem" ... England has got such a beautiful, powerful anthem!!!
Well, I know it's not official, but it's English:
"For England, by England and of England!"
As I watch my country being torn apart by anarchists and the mob I find myself profoundly jealous of the unity and patriotism of the people of what truly is, Great Britain. Indeed, God Save the Queen!
Import a 3rd world, become a 3rd world :-)
This was in 2011... watch the 2021 proms and you’ll see that the BBC lot who attend fly the EU flag in the royal Albert hall, almost to spit in the 17 million (who voted for brexit) ordinary people’s face however I can assure you there are many people in this nation (the UK) still who have hope and sing our songs proudly, the small minority will not weigh us down. Love from the UK 🇬🇧
Great to see so many different flags in the crowd - including a few proud German flags - and why not!
Why not indeed. I hope one day I can wave my Canadian flag at these proms along side my proud Union flag.
Why not? They're all Nazis! You may take the Nazi out of Germany, but you'll never take the Nazi out of a German! Curse them all!
Of course you can wave a German flag! European Unity and free movement via the EU and EEA means that there are loads of Germans and other Europeans living in London. If you bother to bring your national flag and wave it at the proms, I think we probably assume it's a bit of declaration of unity - of course our European and Commonwealth partners do this, plus the rebel USA : ) -- but we welcome it from any sovereign country that can say they pay their respects to the UK. We return the sentiment.
Greg Whillis I'm Jewish, why the fuck would I care about the World Cup?

The comedies bottom, Blackadder are what England is all about having a laugh without being serious. The song Jerusalem reminds me of such classic English comedy. Up to blighty xx
The point where the strings go spiralling up in "Jerusalem" gives me goosebumps every single time I hear it.
That's down to the genius of Elgar who orchestrated Parry's song.
I sang this great hymn with the Cathedral Choral Society of Washington, D.C. at the Washington Cathedral during a United Nations concert in October of 1993 and have loved it ever since. I play it now in honor of Queen Elizabeth 11's life.

Good points and I heartily agree. The same thing is happening here in the States. It comes from a lack of balance in people's perspectives. Nations, like people, have their good and bad elements. There is no shame in celebrating the good and committing ourselves to learning from our mistakes.

How I sometimes get disheartened when people fail to acknowledge true beauty.
We will sing these songs for ever... great nation and I'm proud to be British.....
As an American who spent 10 years in the 60s and 70s living in England I learned how to sing God Save the Queen first long before I learned how to say God bless America. As an American I am so jealous when I looked at the young faces and old mixed together in this wonderful song dedicated to their loyalty to Britain and her Queen. It saddens me though when I see in my own home country of the United States where teachers and professors have taught to Generations yes to whole Generations to refuse to sing their own national anthem to refuse to say any words of Prayer religious freedom and in fact teach young children in America to hate their own country hey this is what our education system and our political system of extremism and left-wing politics social communism in our school. How many American men died during World War II so that you have could be free an American could stay free but America has forgotten the soldiers and what they stood for. I hope both of us Americans who love this country will prevail and I honor England youth for standing by their motherland God bless the queen

We have had the same anti-patriotic doctrine preached here too Patty. School children taught to despise our history, particularly our imperial past, ignoring the many benefits British rule brought but emphasising the blunders, the errors of judgement.

Do you give any thought to the many colonists who didn't support the 'revolution'? The thousands of men, women and children, were driven from their homes, in many cases by envious neighbours, and forced to flee.

Lyrics from a short poem by William Blake written around 1804, set to music by another Brit, Sir Hubert Parry, in 1916. Based on the story that Jesus walked in England, at or near Glastonbury, with his Uncle Joseph of Arimathea. "And did those feet in ancient times walk upon England's mountains green? And was the Holy Lamb of God on England"s pleasant pastures seen?" Jerusalem is a metaphor for Heaven. So all should strive to "build Jerusalem in England's green and pleasant land." Great hymn!!
