Literally a wild elephant name "Arrikobam" is making state headlines for weeks. And here you can't shoot or even tranquilize the elephant because of the court order. Nd considering these Rangers have sound guns make it more dangerous!
But I hope it was great adrenaline rush experience for you...!

How did you plan this night stay inside core area of Periyar.
When We booked for a jungle trek we were taken for Jungle walk during morning for about Two hrs. During the Trek a pack of about 10-12 Indian wild dogs feeding on a a Sambhar kill was sighted, As we proceeded further the route was blocked by a lone Tuskless Male which can be very dangerous & were advised by the guide to retreat back.

The forest guard carry the gun only to scare the animal and never to shoot them. A sound of a shot in the air normally more than sufficient for the purpose. Plus, these guards patrol these reserve regularly and would generally be aware of any animal with any irregular behavioural that might lead to untoward incidents.
Really loving your video, specially with the purpose of wildlife. These are the place that very few travel too. Even we Indian's are not aware of some, like the one in Delhi. Thanks for sharing your experience. Hope other adventure lovers would be inspired by your videos. There are few places with rare animals like the Wild Ass sanctuary in Gujarat, there is one for Ibex and Snow leopards in the Ladakh / Himachal region, another with some rare deer near or in the Loktak Lake in Manipur, even the vast bio diversity of the lake would fascinate you. There a few more, don't recollect as of right now other than the usual tigers and elephants. Pobitora near Guwahati in Assam has more density of the one horn Rhino than the Kaziranga.
If wildlife other than the usual Tiger and Elephant interests you, then you need to come the North East. It's huge on the bio-diversity side.

We are debating weather to choose the 3 day 2 night trek or the 2 day 1 night trek like you did. There is no itinerary listed anywhere so I was wondering what you get to do for the extra day in the 3 day trek. There are many other videos on this tiger reserve but most of them are in Malayalam. Although I was born and brought up in India (Bangalore), I do not know Malayalam. I am settled in the US for the last 25 years and my 18 year old son was born and brought up in the US so this will be a unique experience for him.

Loved it. It's a good decision to leave India at this moment bcoz of summer season. But do come here in the month of October as you can experience Navratri or Durga Puja in west Bengal and yaa Diwali too. And try to explore the north eastern sides. I don't know why foreigners ignore the north east side and keep roaming in Delhi and Mumbai😢.

That bird you mentioned which makes so many different sounds may be a racket tail drongo (in Malayalam we call it kakka thamburatti).

Ah thanks for the ID! I have seen that bird another time but now I can pair the sound to what it looks like 😄

@@talesofodyssey , that bird even imitates the sound of motorbikes. The legendary bird watcher of India Mr Salim Ali, who discovered Thattekkad Bird Sanctuary in Kerala, said in his biography, that while he was watching birds in the middle of dense forests in Thattekkad area he heard the sound of an old model Royal Enfield bike, he was surprised where it was coming from and later discovered that a Racket tailed Drongo was making that sound. Even I heard and saw this funny bird crying like a cat and imitating various other sounds.
