    Great Edition of Paris Roubaix , i couden't believe that Küng (our King here in Switerland) did well in a Sprint, I was sure he woud come 5th.
    Also Intermarches Performance just incredible, sadly they will not get all of the almost 600 UCI Points because of the top 10 Rider Rule, but they should be safe anyway.

    Ineos won the Giro two years in a row for the last two years. They were on the podium of 2020 Vuelta and 2021 TDF. Yet Eurosport/GCN and cyclingnews comments section were like “they were struggling in the GTs so they pivot into a classic team”. I wouldn’t call a win and a podium each year in a GT struggling. That’s consistently good performance.

    - Really happy for DVB, that was very well deserved and he seems like a really nice guy.
    - Mohoric is reaching legend status.
    - What an amazing spring for King Kung.
    - IWG with 6 in the top 23 blows my mind
    - Teams will now add covid to their training program for 2023.

      @counselthyself Racing is absolutely not good training. Sure, it helps you sharpen your sword and bring your peak power figures up if you haven't hit your peak yet, but every week you race, you're hemmorhaging cardiovascular fitness because the races are so hard on your heart/body. On top of that you have to sacrifice training rides for the sake of recovery.
      MVDP has been racing his ass off, but because he couldn't build a big cardiovascular base because of the back injury, he's already off his performance peak after a month of racing.

    21:58 I have to disagree with LR here. This sector actually has a paved "gutter" of about 50cm on either side of the road. Lampaert wasn't riding in the dirt/grass like on other sectors but on tarmac. On the straight lign, this paved lane is blocked so that riders must ride on the cobbles. But near turns, it is fully cleared so that riders can take them better. It is clearly part of the road and is the intended way by the organisation. This is not Lampaert taking risks at all as riders are meant to ride there on thiese specific turns

    Even though the fan who brought down Lampaert down was at fault Lampaert wasn't riding in the road at all, he was riding on the tarmac cycle path to the side of the cobbles, in my opinion trying to cheat them. For this section of really needs to be barriered so that this can't happen. On the other cobbled sections where they do this the gutters are dirt, not always that flat, and there is a risk, whereas in this final cobbled section of is obviously move of an urban cycle path which offers a complete flat surface, it's basically on the outskirts of Roubaix.
    If there has been barriers here then this wouldn't have happened. They did have certain small bollards in this cycle path and maybe think they don't need barriers because there aren't enough fans there to warrant them, but I think they are needed. The cobbles on this section aren't even that bad. It was a great race, great analysis guys. It'll be interesting to see if van Baarle stays at Ineos. They should try to keep him at all costs I think.

    • @nico210
      @nico210 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      All this ballast thing is rubbish. They shouldn't use this low level cobble sector at all. To make it "challenging" they add thise ballast but only on the first part as they know it would create danger in the sinuous second part. Either put actual barrier (like in Flanders) or go elsewhere, or don't complain that the riders ride where they have the right to (meaning the actual entire road).
      There are rules restricting riders riding everywhere, in this case it was perfectly inside the rule so the fan should respect that, period.

      @@nico210 A few years ago there were rules saying not riding on the road (ie. not riding the cobbles but use the gutter, bike path etc.) would lead to disqualification. Luke Rowe was even disqualified once after he got onto the side walk as a result of trying to avoid a crash. I guess that rule is just impossible to enforce so UCI just dropped it.

      @@suisinghoraceho2403 Hi. As stated in my previous post, there is a difference between a bike lane (on the road), a bike path (separated physically) and a sidewalk, also separated and not to be used by cyclists. The bike lane on the road was always and remains accessible for road races, the other two not. So no, I don't thibk the rules have changed, although I agree their application is not always coherent.
      Again, in the discussed scenario, the use of cycle lane on the road was always allowed. From the rule perspective there is no difference between those side lanes in the Hem sector and the red bike lanes on most roads in the Amstel Gold Race.

    Van Aert shouldn't have attacked right after he came back. He also should not have closed all the attacks while there was 2 INEOS riders. The one thing he should have done was close immediately any INEOS move.
    He cannot let go any INEOS rider because the other one will block the chase and attack as soon as his teamate is caught after a good rest. And he shouldn't chase any move not containing an INEOS rider. They will have to chase when everyone starts lokking at each other because they're the only one who can burn a rider. By chasing back moves as soon as he got on, he signaled to the other riders that he was willing to do it and was not playing games. He had a golden occasion to bluff and to make other works.

    It feels like Quickstep is really declining this season. Perhaps they took a hit sponsor-wise or Loulou and Remco are taking too much of the team’s resources. Their spring team has diminished so much and has been forced to lean really heavily on riders that would normally be considered as support to lead. Yves, Florian, Ballerini and Asgreen are watt monsters but don’t have the sprint or consistency to be true leaders of a cobbling squad. I hope they can turn it around next season cause it’s breaking my heart.

    • @MDP1702
      @MDP1702 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The entire spring team struggled with disease and setbacks for some time, though I also feel like the tactics of QST have been off this spring, with Ineos essentially perfectly duplicating them using their team strength.
      I don't think Remco actually gets payed that much. And if he is, it is deserved. He currently has been their best rider in these first few months (and 2nd best rider overall with 6th in the UCI ranking, only topped by Alaphilippe's 4th).
      Also it is a bit QST's thing to not have an outspoken leader, but rather use the overall teams strength to win, kind of like Ineos is doing currently. I would say they missed Alaphilippe, eventhough I wouldn't have called him a clear leader in the spring classics looking at for example last year, more another strong rider.
      I also think it is time to reinforce their cobble team with new blood and take out for example Stybar. I don't like to say it, but I don't think he has been worth it in the team cobble team this spring and next year he'll be 37. Ofcourse it might be different based on internal team stats. But yeah, I think it should be considered an option.

If you're going to winge about discs and tubeless holding people up, keep in mind that even WVA, with all his mechanicals, finished over three minutes ahead of the previous fastest-ever Paris-Roubaix finishing time (GvA in 2017).
      Second, you're really showing how clueless you are about cycling. Go back and watch any older "rim-brake" edition of PR, count the flats, as well as how many people crash out. The mechanical carnage of PR is literally the defining characteristic of the race. You'd have to be riding the course on a goddamn mountain bike to minimize the risk of puncturing. Like, sorry if you had money on Wout, but you didn't lose your bet because of disc brakes.

      Also would love to hear your thoughts on what it would have been like to ride 2021 PR on a rim-brake bike. But yeah, whole bike industry is out to screw you over, poor you, the equipment choices of professional bike racers are actually all about you, it's your world we're just taking up space in it, etc. etc.

    Van Aert finished one helping Primoz Roglic short of the win.

    Van Aert or Mohoric had the best legs not Van Baarle if you ask me. Van Baarle was just lucky that Van Aert was sick of closing every attack himself and decided to let it go that time when Van Baarle accelerated. Only if Van Aert knew VDP was so weak to continue with them he probably would have followed Van Baarle.

      WVA could have also won the race by countering over Kung and Mohorič, he was gapping DvB off his wheel.

      WVA lost the race by being too aggressive. Van Baarle wasn’t just lucky. He has enough experience to read WVA’s moves.

    Road cycling has come so close to F1 in so many ways. For example, riders need to change tires every 60 minutes.

      I do, haha. Just mentioned his current job. His previous results were irrelevant to him saying someone punctured. 😅

    MVP was not close to being able to win this PR. WVA was the strongest in the race. DVB stole a second from Pog at Flanders... and then stole the PR victory from WVA.

      @counselthyself I did not say it was wrong... but DVB was not the strongest guy in the race... when that guy wins, he "stole" the race... good on him. It is racing, but it is not racing where the strongest man wins.
