This is brilliant! I took up Zentangles more than 7 years ago after I had a small stroke that affected my right hand, to get back the mobility in that hand (I was a calligrapher, and could barely write legibley afterwards). I bought the book "One Zentangle a Day" and made a notebook with small squares filled with patterns that I learned and would use them as reference when I couldn't think of what pattern to use next. I Tangled for months, and then moved on to adult coloring, and finally took up watercolors. I have been watercolor painting for about five years now, and haven't Tangled for years. Today TH-cam was clever enough to direct me to your channel! What a beautiful surprise! I clicked Follow immediately. What a great way to combine the things I love! You are a wonderful teacher and I look forward to more lessons from you!

I've been tangling ten years this month, but I constantly learn new things by watching CZTs online. I really like your style of instructing; calm, quiet, not a huge amount of unnecessary blather (I'm ADHD/IS, and very easily distracted!), and you explain each pattern you're using so well that it's easy to follow you. I like the music you put on, too...SO beautiful!

This video magically appeared on my screen and I couldn't be more pleased. I watch a lot of art related videos and have found the extremes in narration. There are some with virtually none that leave you wondering why the artist made their choice. In others I find myself wanting to reach through the screen and duct tape the artist's mouth as they have a tendency to talk through the whole thing, whether it's needed or not. You've hit the perfect medium -- clear explanations without unnecessary chatter. Brilliant! Now to watch more and happily subscribe.

Love that you made a video of this. Saw a brief glimpse of it in another video and immediately felt I the need to revisit zen tangles and ran to the art store for a small watercolour sketchbook. Have already started to swatch and play with tangles in the book. Such a fun way to warm up before painting. I will need to buy another book as I prefer how you made it a larger piece. My wee book is 5” x3”. Bit of a squish.
You did it! This is an inspiring video that brings together Zentangle and a fabulous reason for creating a journal. I continue to search for paper, but other than binding your own journal, it does not seem to come journal made...thus, the conflict “use what I have and get it done” or keep looking but putting off a product for the sake of perfection.” I am inspired to move forward! Thanks very much, Louise! Yes, several people have recommend Etcher journals. I haven't tried those yet, but they have 100% Fabriano paper so I think we'd see a difference with that brand. I think I've decided to skip the journal and paint it on sheets and then bind the pages after it's complete. This will allow me to scan the finished projects in case I decide to reprint or frame them. No I need to decide on paper size. Do I go smaller so I can use a standard 9x12 block or purchase individual sheets?? Haven't decided yet. I hope you get your sorted so you can get to the fun parts. Hugs!

I think you will like the Etchr watercolour journals. They are now my favourite. 100% cotton; they are available in different sizes and two different paper weights. All excellent but the one they call the Perfect Sketchbook is indeed perfect for me but the slightly lighter weight one is still excellent and better than most other makes.
I have heard such great things about this journal. I will definitely get one. For these swatch pages, I will switch to watercolor sheets so I can scan and then bind it after they're all done. Thanks again, Jane!

I don't know how many people wrote about it but the Etchr Perfect sketchbook is amazing! I love its paper. Those are the sketchbooks with the black cover, not the white! Otherwise, thank you so much for this tutorial. Please name more! 😍

I don't know how many people wrote about it but the Etchr Perfect sketchbook is amazing! I love its paper. Those are the sketchbooks with the black cover, not the white! Otherwise, thank you so much for this tutorial. Please name more! 😍

Thank you! I am so glad I found this. Now I finally know a way to start using my Daniel Smith watercolours. I bought them 2 years ago, but still had leftovers of my other watercolours. So every time I thought: I first have to use those (old ones) before I can start with the new watercolours ...

I have used the Moleskine journals before, now im using the Etchr watercolour journals, I like them better, they are very good.
